Just wondered if anyone else had experienced this situation.

Last summer I ordered some clothing from Disney Online's outlet department, paying a grand total of approx $25.00 plus a similar amount for shipping. The package was delivered on or around 9 August 2006.

At the weekend, well over 6 months later, I received an invoice from DHL for the VAT plus their admin charges - total £11.24.

I couldn't have even told you it was delivered by DHL, and certainly don't recall there being any note to say that they would be invoicing me later. Whilst I realise that if they had to pay VAT on the package then they would pass this charge on to me, but it seems crazy they can do this over 6 months after the event. I thought there was some time limit on when you could be billed for things - does anyone know?

To add insult to injury, the dresses I bought didn't fit so it's proving a fairly expensive donation to the charity shop!

The same thing happened to me a couple of years ago. I ordered from the USA Disney site and not the UK one. Items arrived very quickly and about three months later I received a bill for the customs duty. The reason I was given was the DHL pay the duty on your behalf and then you pay them in return. In my case the items were exactly what I was looking for and I was more than happy with them. Made the charge that bit easier to swallow.

Before Christmas we bought DD her Prom Dress from JC Penney and had it shipped over, when UPS delivered it, we had to pay the 'duty' (or tax) straight away

Last week DH bought me some Disney luggage from disneyshopping.com and DHL delivered it, they didn't ask for any 'duty', so now I assume it will come in a separate invoice

Here's the luggage, it's so cool and was a lovely surprise

Yes the same thing happend to us, DH had a big row with DHL for doing this. DHL automatically pay the duty for you, then bill you months later.

Nice luggage Mandy.

nice luggage mandy bet you can't wait to use it

Hi I know on DHL website they do have a page on this and they have a £10 admin charge plus whatever they pay in duty, but if I where u I'd challenge them on y duty was paid on goods under £17 in value as these are exempt from duty and tax, I ordered a few things a couple of weeks ago and I'm expecting a bill from them but I'd assume they would charge more quickly

I have never ordered from the Disney site but have ordered items from ebay. Never more than $50 and have never had to pay import duty.

Mandy, your luggage is lovely!;)

Mandy,

A quick question about your luggage, what are the sizes like, it looks lovely and tempted to get some.

Yes, it took DHL around 3 months to invoice me, for VAT etc, a couple of years ago :)

Luckily everything was fine and was, mostly, stuff I couldn't buy in the UK but, to be honest, I wouldn't have known to expect a separate invoice had it not been for the DIS :surfweb:

Here's a link to the sizes, all the luggage is a good size, though I have to check the MyTravel website to make sure that the hand luggage one isn't too big

Sorry slightly off topic :flower3:

Mandy that luggage looks fab and at half price I am very very tempted.

Can I ask how heavy are the bags? I really need some light cases. Also how easy is it to order from the site, I have never done this before?
Thanks

Sorry to have hi-jacked your thread tigger137 ;)

The cases are very light, my hubby ordered them the other week and he said the website very easy to use - BTW, I think you can get them in blue too

Mandy :)
