DH came home yesterday and told me Toys R Us let him go. We knew this might be temporary but a lot of people quit and graduated so we hoped he'd get to stay. Now he has no job and doesn't qualify for unemployment since he wasn't there long enough. Not sure what we're going to do now. Things were going well and I was finally starting to relax and be happy. What a Christmas present this was. At least we're moving in March to a place with cheaper rent but now I'm starting with the old waking up at all hours of the night worrying about how the bills are going to get paid. I'm sure the unemployment rate will skyrocket now that the Christmas season is over.

sorry to hear, BUT he can get unemployment from his job prior to toys r us..he didn't quit so check it out and apply!

All the best

Yup, I know that in Delaware, he can go back and re-open his previous claim.

This really sucks, I'm sorry you are having to deal with this. I hope things work out and he finds another job asap.

They take the last 4 quarters. He should be able to collect based off of prior employment.

This is what my dad is stressing over. He got hired at Babies/TRU back in October and is worried that come next month he'll be laid off. We've already looked into him re-opening his unemployment claim, just in case of a lay off or drastic cut in hours and it is possible.

I'm sorry, geez and on the holidays. I agree try and re-open the old claim.

I agree with PP, go and check it out hopefully he will qualify.
Just remember what my mom always says " it won't last forever", things will get better soon.

Yes, definitly look into reopening the claim. My daughter worked there last year at Christmas. She was hired as seasonal help. Since she was a good worker, the manager hired her on a perm basis. He had to let her go a week later because corporate says you can't hire seasonal to full time WTH. Anyhow this year she got a postcard saying they wanted her back! She didn't waste her time with them.

So sorry.....I hope you're able to reopen the older claim and get some funds rolling in so you're not so stressed. Hopefully he'll also be able to get another job soon and the move will go smoothly.

I am so sorry to hear of this. I think you are right - now that Christmas is over, there will be others laid off too.

My DH had to take a job away from home and I hardly get to see him now. I miss him a lot. The same thing happened to my friend, except her husband gets to come home every weekend.

What this economy has done to families is just heartbreaking. Hang in there - know that better days are coming. Have faith....

I'm not sure we can reopen the old claim because he was already on extension since the original benefits had run out. We'll try but I don't hold out much hope for it.

If the extension had not run out then he should still be able open the old claim. Good luck :goodvibes

I'm so sorry

This economy is hard on so many families. I hope your hyusband finds another position soon.

Definitely call unemployment and have them reopen his previous claim.

I was on unemployment; I worked for Census for 6 weeks; and then I went back on unemployment. It even extends out your benefits by how many weeks your DH was working.

He should be able to re-open on the extension as long as it had not run out. I work in the Unemployment Office in Delaware and we do this all the time. :) Feel free to PM if you have any questions. Maybe I can help.
