hey everyone!

well, after a few days worth of discussion, DH and i have decided that atkins isn't the plan for us. while it was working, it was getting too hard for us to find things to eat. we were beginning to eat the same things over and over again and i couldn't take it any longer. we figured that it was best to back out now before we lose too much more weight...cuz i'm afraid of piling it right back on.

we are going to do a low fat plan though. and we are going to really get serious about exercising. well, at least i will! i am going to fight like mad to keep this weight from coming back on!

one good thing that came out of the atkins plan for me though is that i am much more aware of what i am eating. i read labels a lot!!! we went to the store today and bought all low fat or fat free products.

we may try atkins again in the future...but it's just not a plan that we can commit to right now...

WISH us luck!!

Good luck on finding a program that is the right fit for you. That is such an important step. You have to find a plan that you can live with and that works for you. Some people love Atkins but I know for me it would never work. :)

You probably already know this but I just wanted to caution you about that low-fat/no-fat stuff. It is great but you still have to be careful with portion sizes and calories. Sometimes the low-fat/no-far alternatives actually have more calories than the full-fat stuff! It is important to keep track of fat content but you also need to pay attention to calories as well! :) That is one reason why I have loved WW so much because it helps me eat low-fat but also keeps the calories and portions under control! :)

Good luck!

I am not on Atkins but I know what you mean about the same foods all the time. I have been preparing the same B/L/D for the last few weeks and by the end of the week it's just blah. This week I'm hoping to come up with some new ideas!

Hang in there! If you do notice a gain when you switch from Atkins to lowfat don't be too upset, it's probably mostly fluid! Good luck!

Good Luck!

I know you will do well keeping off what you have already lost. What you have learned from Atkins will carry over into whatever new plan you decide on. Making sure it is something you can do for a lifetime is what matters. If you do something that you can't live with, you will eventually get bored and quick. It's actually better that you discovered this before you got to the frustrating stage and just quit watching what you ate all together. Keep up the great job. You will find something that fits your lifestyle!

thank you! i knew i would find all sorts of support here!!

becka...i know all about the portion control! lol...i was just telling my DH that yesterday as he is a "clean the plate" kind of guy. i try to eat slow and only eat until my body says i'm satisified. and i do follow calories too...i don't think that we have a set limit on calorie or fat intake though. i remember a few years back, i was going to bodygenics (don't know if they even exist anymore) but they tried to keep me on 12g of fat per day. that was way too hard on me...at least then. maybe it won't be so bad now...but i plan to really watch the calories too.

i just feel that with this type of plan, i won't feel as bad if i do slip and have something that i shouldn't have had...we had my company's annual picnic on saturday. we even made 2 side dishes that were atkins legal for us...but i couldn't resist the ice cream! i only had just a little scoop of frozen yogurt actually, but i felt so horrendously guilty! (we tried to find atkins ice cream at a nearby store for us, but i couldn't find any!) but on sunday morning, while we were at breakfast...DH and i pretty much came to the agreement to try something else. he was mainly looking for something a little more "convenient". so, we bought him some of the slim fast breakfast bars and he has those for breakfast. that way neither of us has to cook and we don't have to spend our sundays cooking food for the rest of the week to cover both breakfast and lunch. i am drinking a slim fast shake in the morning. i actually love the chocolate malt flavor...it works for me! and i am able to snack on stuff like cucumber slices and carrots without worrying too much about the sugar/carb contents. oh! and i can have my fruits again!!

i am just not a person who can do salads all the time and no breads...i tried...gave it 5 weeks! but i just couldn't take it right now!! it was hard for me to go to subway and avoid subs. while their salads are good (quite impressive actually!) the aroma of the bread got to me.

we may try atkins again in the future...but for right now, i think this plan will work out better for us. i knew that no matter what plan my DH and i decide on, i could always find a bunch of support here! you guys are the greatest!! {{{{{hugs}}}}}

Same thing is going to happen no matter what plan you're on, if you can't find plenty to eat on Atkins.

What was it that you were eating over and over?

Did you consider... steaks, hamburger, salmon, tuna, chicken, pork, fish, shrimp, crab legs... green beans, turnips, okra, zucchini, spaghetti squash, yellow squash, lettuce, radishes, celery, jalepenos, onions, mushrooms... cheese chips, pepperoni chips, dips, sausage balls, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, almonds, walnuts, pecans... strawberries, blueberries, cantelope, honeydew, raspberries, blackberries...ice cream, mousse, almond pound cake, brownies, chocolate chip cookies...

There is certainly NOT a lack of foods to eat. And no reason you should eat the same things over and over (unless, of course, you really WANT to).

I wish you and DH the best of luck on whatever plan you choose. No matter what it is, though, I think you'll need to be a little more creative if you're going to stick with it. ;)
