Okay, I've got my flame suite on and ready...;)

DH and I have just returned from another trip from WDW with our two children. (DS5, DD2) Let me first say that we did have a great time, but we've come to the conclusion that perhaps until our kids are a few years older that our WDW trips could be a lot more relaxing, stressfree and cheaper without bringing the kids along. :scared1: DS is now 5 years old and has been to WDW 5 times already!! DD is 2 years old and this was her 3rd trip!!!! So our kids are definitely not deprived of WDW vacations at their young age. But they are at the age, especially DS, that half the time during this trip he would have been happier sitting at home playing the Wii or outside playing ball with the neighbor kids! He does enjoy some of the rides, but like most kids do at his age, he has his few favorites and if we weren't riding those rides he often times whined about it and put a damper on the rest of us. DD2 was normally happy with doing what ever we were doing, but she is two years old and she had her meltdowns like the other kids there her age.

DH and I have been going to WDW atleast once a year since 2004 and we really look forward to it all year. There isn't a day that goes by that we don't either watch something WDW related on TV, listen to WDW music in our cars or talk about going back. We save money all year long and don't go crazy spending money other places so that we can afford these trips. And it just really sucks that we just spent $4,000 during 8 days when much of that time was spent being frustrated & disciplining our kids. The thing is, they are normally well behaved kids at home. WDW just has so much... "stimulation" I guess is a good way to discribe it, that it can make even well behaved kids a hand full. And it's hard disciplining your kids at WDW (for me anyways) because I don't want them to totally freak out and other people around us having to hear them too. If we were at home I'd send our kids to their room so no one would have to hear them whine and complain. But I can't do that at WDW.

This past January DH and I took a long weekend trip to WDW without the kids and it was one of the most enjoyable trips for us. :rolleyes1 I can't wait to do that again. We've actually been deciding whether or not to buy into DVC, so if we do, I know there will be many more opportunities for our kids to go back.

I'm not really asking if anyone thinks we're bad or selfish parents for not wanting to take our kids back for a few years. Although if you truely think we are, someone will speak up and say it. :rotfl: And that's fine.

On a more positive note regarding this past week... we did win Mickey Mouse ears from the Dream Squad early in the trip. Then on our last morning we won Dream Fast Passes at MK!!! NICE!

And to those nice people staying at BCV early in the week... thanks for stopping to help me when my son threw up in front of the elevators on Sunday night.

No flames here! DH and I have been trying to get away and find a time to go on our own. From going on Girls Only trip the last 2 years it is definitely a very different experience without the kids and lots of fun.

My girls (8 and 12) have been once a year for the last few years and they were not the least bit upset that I was going without them. While they enjoy going, they aren't as excited as they used to be. It is fun to be there, but they know it is hot and lots of walking so they aren't thrilled about that part!

I am absolutely not here to blast you ! DH and I made a decision not to have kids b/c of our years as WDW castmembers, so your title really caught my eye. At WDW we all are getting up early, allowed to stay up past our bedtimes, overstimulated and usually have too much sugar. I know I am all of the above! No matter how good a parent you are you don't want to deprive your kids of anything WDW has to offer.
I'm going over to read your adults only TR and look foward to reading this one.

Absolutely no flames here! We went (12 of us) back in 1997 with the youngest being my DS26 who was 15 at the time (we left my youngest 2 - ages 4 and 10 at home) and we had a great adult only vacation.

I agree that sometimes you just have to enjoy it as adults and sometimes kids would rather be home playing if too young to really enjoy until they are older.

We just got back from an adult's only trip and totally agree. Our son is 17 years old now, so he has been going with us most every year since he was five. But once in a while, like this week, just DH and myself go and our favorite time is during F & W at Epcot. Spent most of our time there. Really enjoyed the relaxed pace. Long meals, walking hand in hand around World Showcase, it is a very nice and romantic time. And you're right, your kids will enjoy it more as they get a little older.

No flames here either! We have a 5 year old and a 3 year old - and we would love to be able to go more often without the kids! We just need more willing overnight babysitters, ha ha. Anyway, we also own DVC and I just wanted to tell you....BUY IT! You'll never regret it. :goodvibes

no flames here as well:) I have been saying for years that I have a much better time without the kiddos...now 11 and 15. we have been 4 times just us no kids 4 times with the kids...always have a great time with kids, but we can take our time to do just the type of trip we enjoy when the kids don't come along. It is a fact nothing to be ashamed about, doesn't mean you hate your kids or anything, just means you enjoy a little adult time now and them.

my wife gets parent disney trip guilt...not me! I never got to go as a child so I feel they are way ahead of me as a kid;)

Okay so I have to tell you guys my favorite quote from my castmember days. This lady said to me "You know Walt Disney World is a wonderful place, but they just ruin it when they let those kids in here" :lmao:

NO flames here! My DH and I went for our 15th anniversary this summer with no kiddos. Our kids have been at least once each year since our oldest was 3. They were bummed but they got over it--they didn't have a choice! We had a wonderful time!!!!!!! In June no less!!! We went were we wanted when we wanted, ate whatever, had a few beers "around the world", and really got to relax. We saw things we never get to stop and enjoy with kids. And we only went through Fantasyland ONE time!!!!!! Without stopping!!!!! My DH said we should do it every year! I have either completely brainwashed him, or he just said that to make me happy for another 15 years, or maybe it was just for the heavenly bed at the Swan. Who cares...we can't wait to go just us again!pixiedust:

How great is the Swan! we did our 20th anniversary at the swan in late august:thumbsup2

I didn't even have the stamina or guts or whatever to take my kids to WDW when they were the age of your kids. We didn't go for the first time until they were 7 and 8. The only thing I regret is that we never got to do all the kiddie rides in MK. Otherwise, I don't regret not taking toddlers to MK. We had a few good years when my kids really enjoyed it. Now my DS15 is "too cool" to go anywhere with us, so we have a short solo trip planned. So we are going alone for the opposite reason - to get away frpm the raging teen hormones!

I totally agree! It's so much fun to get away with out the children, and have a little time to enjoy the attractions without trying to keep everyone else happy. If we left it up to ds10 we would pitch a tent right beside BTMRR and stay the whole trip. We took a June trip with ds, a July trip w/o ds, then back to mnsshp with ds. We had soooo much fun in July...........:rotfl2:
