I think DFW has one of the most unique situations in the country due to the Wright Amendment. It is nearly impossible for those of that fly out of DFW to get the great fares that those from the North and East are receiving.

So DFW let's start our own Airfare Date and Rate thread for fares to DFW.

I love reading what others are paying but we have to be realistic and I know with some work we can get at least decent air out of DFW.

Okay,
Ill start.

DfW to MCO RT
American Airlines Nonstop
June 4 7pm
June 19th 7pm
5 people
Cititravel Rate (I signed up thru my Citibank card. Travel Club)
179.00 each

DFW to MCO
American Airlines
June 11 6:40am
June 20 5:27pm
$198.00 each

I agree with you about the lack of great fares!

We may go back for Labor Day if we can find a decent fare, so Im still looking.

For my May trip I found: (also through Cititravel)

DFW to MCO
AA Nonstop
6:40 a.m
Return 7 pm
$169.82

So far Im getting the best rates through CitiTravel but my trial period is almost over.
:(

I am also taking that 6:40 a.m. flight out of DFW in June (don't know exact fair, I bought a package).

What time do you plan on getting to the airport? We will be parking at a lot off 183 & Valley View.

It looks like you guys have good rates for your air fare. I guess anything less then $200 roundtrip out of DFW is decent. We leave May 15th but we are on delta. I am a flight attendant so we go standby. Ugh!! but it is free. We were thinking about buying 2 tickets and the best rates we could find was $179 I'am not sure if that was with or without taxes. For a family of 4 that is a lot just to get there!

May 31-June 7
American Airlines non-stop to MCO
$165 per person before taxes and fees. Total for four passengers is around $786 tax included.

$174.88, add taxes $206.70. How did you get $165. Hunnypots? :D Got to love the earliest flight direct......
I will vote to lose the Wright amendment.......

Our total for our June trip came to $719.00 for the 4 of us all taxes and fees included.

I too think anything less than $200 is good out of DFW.

Last Labor Day I thought we were doing well when I booked United out of DFW for $655 for the 4 of us. Well we had to change planes in Charlotte. It took us 7 hours to get there! We almost missed our connecting to DFW. That's when I decided that flying nonstop is worth the extra $20 per person. With a little searching it can be done.

Works for AA...

Just checked the cheapest fare and with some "fares" sold out the cheapest fare for 6/7 returning on 6/19 is 246.70.

If it was further out, the roundtrip price is 176.70

The key is buy them early. There are only a limited amount of the lower fares, then they go up, usually about 5-10 bucks.

I already purchased for December trip and got mine based on the 176.70 price. We get a 20% discount off of lowest full fare available if we want to buy a seat. (Usually non-rev, but DFW-MCO is horrible. Always get bumped.)

When I originally purchased the seats back in Feb, the price was 206.00 per ticket. Airtran announced a new fare in this market and AA Matched it. I went back to ticket counter and got vouchers for future travel. If you buy now, keep and eye on the price. If it goes lower you can get vouchers for the difference.

I'm another who looks for that magic "below $200" number from DFW to MCO. When I see it, I grab it.

Just checked Airtran website and they have nonstop available for my May dates (24-28) out of DFW for $176. I already have my ticket, but considering leaving a day early and it is almost cheaper for me to buy this ticket than it is to pay the change fee and the difference on AA. Sale ends on the 7th.

Nebsky you are right to buy early!

shatzjsl..............

In 2002, we got there at 5am.......ugh!
In 2003, it was more like 5:30-5:45. still had plenty of time. Hope your on the same flight as us, we would love to see a fellow DISer!

We bought our airfare a couple of months ago through Expedia.

We fly Airtran May 2 - May 8.

Our fare is $176 with taxes and fees (plus $20 to have the paper tickets delivered, ugh!).

We fly out at 10:30 a.m. and back at 1:45 p.m. nonstop so I'm very happy with the flight times.

I WISH those of us in Dallas could fly Southwest. It's a total crock!

Could someone please explain the Wright amendment for me? All I know is that it keeps Southwest from flying anywhere except LA, OK, AR, and NM but I have no idea why.

As for how I got the rate I got, it was just one of those lucky days. We weren't even planning on flying but I just thought I'd check around and see what it would cost. I liked what they offered (compared to $300+ last year) so I bought right then and there. This was back in January. Good thing because the next day it was back up around $197 again.

Im no expert on the WA, but basically it only applies to N.Texas (not Houston, Austin, San Antonio etc.) and it is intended to keep DFW as the only major airport in the area. If the DFW Airport Authority had their way, Love Field would have been closed completely. The WA pretty much rendered SWA to puddle jumper status out of DAL. Without the WA, SWA would be a Major Airline and our fares would be cheaper therefore the Major carriers fares would be cheaper. It is Corporate Welfare and we pay for it.

OTOH, I have many friends and family that work for the major carriers, and DFW is a major employer in the area, but as we saw with the employee concessions last year, the executives were well protected and the employees made all the sacrifices. So I don't think repealing the WA would change many employees fates anyway.

We just decided to fly. I got $766 for the four of us for a May 1st departure.

shelleybell - unfortunately we aren't leaving until the 15th.

Thanks for the information. I was thinking I would get there around 5:15 a.m.

I went ahead and purchased our 2 tickets using Cititravel

American Airlines Non stop
$183.82 all taxes and fees included.

The cheapest on travelocity for my early departure was $215.
