Details of POTC Update/Refurb

Disney Magazine’s fall 2000 issue.
In an article giving tribute to Marc Davis on page 74, Tim O’Day wrote the following words.
“Marc wasn’t overtly sentimental; he was always looking to the future. However, his wistful side showed itself on July 17, 1996, when he participated in an event at Disneyland and was asked to give a few remarks. Marc said that he didn’t get to come to the park very often anymore, but found it tremendously exciting and appreciated everyone’s kind applause. He then paused and said that looking out over the Magic Kingdom reminded him of fellow Disney colleagues no longer with us. ‘Gee,’ he added, ‘they left something wonderful behind.’ So did Marc Davis.”

But with the ever-changing attractions at Disneyland there is little left to say that anymore. Most of what they left behind is gone or has been altered by minds other then their own. Marc Davis was an artist as were the other nine old men of Disney. But Marc probably had more influence on the Disneyland park attractions then most. Some artists sculpt, some paint, some draw, some animate. Walt and Marc made their imaginations come to life. Something no person had ever done before. You wouldn’t change a sculpture by Michelangelo or a painting by Da Vinci to make them more modern with the times or to reflect the success of a movie so that people can better relate to it. So why would you destroy the art of Disneyland and it’s legendary artists?

You seem to be assuming a lot about me as a store manager. I have been with TDS since 1999 and have gone through all the growing pains and the sale to TCP as a manager for the last 2 years. I don't need to be reminded of how the bottom line works or told that Disney has basically brainwashed me into selling everything they put in my hands.

I really didn't post anything just to egg you on...though that seems to be what you think everyone is doing. I will say this though, you have decided your opinion and are entitled too it, but there are other views and opinions out there and you can't prove or disprove any of them. You started this thread with professionalism and dignity, now you are just shooting down every opinion that you don't agree with. It's getting redundant and starting to sound like a temper tantrum. Please respect the views of others, in doing so they will respect yours.

Apparently you missed all of the growing pains at TDS. You got there just in time for the downsizing and near collapse of the company that led to the leftovers of the chain being dumped to TCP. By my count, in 1999, there were over 700 stores. Then there was the might fall. I remember it well.

Thank you for referring to my professionalism and dignity. I am quite proud of it. I don't make excuses for anything and I don't do denial. I often respect other people's opinions if they agree with me. (Now that's funny, I don't care who you are!)

I am sorry that you feel the need to accuse me of being "redundant" and throwing a "temper tantrum". Now who's making assumptions? Try looking up the word "passion" and it might open your eyes. I'm trying not to tear apart your criticism of me, but it's a challenge to respect the views of someone who "eggs you on."
