My hubby and I will be at DW from Feb. 19-22 with the purpose of visiting the DVC resorts and (hopefully!) becoming DVC members. We will be staying in a studio at the BWV on rented points and taking the "DVC Tour". I am the type of person that has to know everything before I spend any money. So far, the information that DW has sent to me on DVC has been rather sketchy. If asked, will DVC show us the member guides and give details about how DVC works? I want to know about deadlines, how trade in/outs work,---specifics on all of the DVC programs. My sales rep has said that there really isn't anything else to see, but I know there is! How do I get access to that information? Our family is really excited about becoming DVC members, but I just need to see everything in writing before I will make the jump!

You certainly will have the opportunity to "see it all in writing" before you sign and give money. And even afterward, there is some sort of timeshare law that requires them to give you 30 days (I think it's 30) to change your mind and get a full refund.

As for the questions you asked, your guide can easily answer all of them. If he/she is reluctant, slow, unwilling or unable to answer any question you have, I'd ask for another guide (sales rep).

Most guides love going over the details, because the more people ask questions, the more hooked they get!!

When I took the tour (yes, just I-DH was at home, so I took the tour solo), my guide gave me the previous year's MG book. He filled me up with all kinds of info, knowing I was going to take it home and go over it with DH. And it worked-although I took the tour, DH was more enthusiastic about joining.

Just wanted to welcome you to the DIS and especially to the DVC Forum. Hope you feel free to ask any quesitons that may come up while you make your decision.

Enjoy your trip!

:) :)

We took the "hour and a half" tour that ended up being 3 hours! What we found was, the guide left the room plenty of times to "get us a drink" so DH and I could discuss the answers to the questions we asked. Our guide was very informative, and she was willing to go over anything we asked about.

Ask all the questions you want. I am sure you will have all the information you need to base your decision on.

Have fun on the tour, and maybe we will be "Welcoming you Home" soon!

This board is great! Thanks to everyone for your information. I know we'll make the right decision.

Just allow yourself enough time for the tour as I could easily see you spending three hours one day and 1-2 another.

We just bought in July and they will let you look at the Member's Guide. We had to buy onsite because of our state's laws, but I think I went through the whole MG during the time we waited for them to get all the paper work printed up for us to sign! Good luck making your decision!

I'd suggest looking at www.mouseplanet.com for their DVC info - and the FAQs here, and asking questions here before you go. I didn't deal with a Disney guide (bought resale, sight unseen), but people here (once you get over their unbridled enthusiam) will give you straight answers to your questions where straight answers can be had.

By the time I got my member book, I knew most of the program details, mostly from this board.

I would also like to recomend you view ALL the DVC resorts while you are there. Disney will only show you SSR, since that is what they are selling right now, but you might prefer VWL, BWV, BCV, or OKW, so be sure to check out the rooms and amenities at all the DVC sites. Should you decide you want something other than SSR as your home resort, you might want to look at a resale. This will possibly save you money as well.
