Ok... now that you got the important stuff out of the way...

What about the cruise?????

The whole trip started for us on Wednesday, September 5th. That’s when my self (Jenn, or Tink, to most -28-), my husband, Jay -31-, my sister in-law, Dee -18-, my sister in-law, Heather -29- and her (almost) 3 year old, Cady, flew from Boston to Orlando. We landed in Orlando around midnight, picked up our rental car from Budget and went to Denny’s on I-Drive for some late night dinner. Then we dropped the girls off at their hotel (Courtyard on I-Drive) and headed over to a friend’s house right in the Dr. Phillip’s area, where my husband and I were staying.

After some much needed sleep, we woke up on Thursday the 6th, got the girls and headed to Animal Kingdom. Once in the park, we checked the wait times for Nemo and realized we had almost two hours til the next show so Jay, Heather and Dee went over to Everest while my niece, Cady and I rode Triceratops Spin…..4 times in a row! Then we all met up and went into see Finding Nemo: the Musical. I gotta tell you, as a die-hard fan of Tarzan Rocks, Nemo was not that good. I mean, it was cute, there were some good effects and the guy who played Crush had an amazing singing voice, but it lacked the fun and upbeat-ness of Tarzan. I wish the vine-swinging, loin-cloth wearing, ape-man would return. After Nemo, we headed out to my niece’s favorite ride (the parking tram!) and drove over to Epcot. We parked at The BoardWalk so I could visit my old home and workplace, The Showplace of the Shore, The Vacation Sensation, Where There’s Timeless Fun For Everyone! Once in Epcot, we went and saw the new O Canada movie (a HUGE improvement upon the old one!) and hit The Seas With Nemo, Turtle Talk and Test Track, all with NO LINE! (Ya gotta love Disney in September!!!) We grabbed a quick bite at The Electric Umbrella (LOVE the new self-serve, free-refils soda dispensers!) and stopped into the new Gran Tour with the Three Caballeros in Mexico. (Cute, but they could have done better.) Next was a quick spin around World Showcase so Dee could get some Kaki Gori in Japan and then we were outta Epcot! Our final destination of the day was Magic Kingdom, but alas, Heather and I still hadn’t gotten pedicures for our cruise and storm clouds were rolling in so we dropped Dee, Jay and Cady off at The Kingdom so they could ride Dumbo (ALL my niece had talked about on the plane ride down!) and Heather and I set out to find a nail salon. BUT since it was already 8 at night, no one was open, so we went back to the Contemporary where we were picking up the rest of our group, got them and made a quick pit stop at Downtown Disney. We needed to check Goofy’s Candy Company to see if they had started making their pumpkin fudge yet. (They hadn’t.) Finally we decided on dinner at Bahama Breeze on I-Drive. (A HUGE favorite of ours!) After dinner we dropped the girls at the hotel again and we went back to the house for MORE much needed sleep.

The next day, Friday the 7th, we had planned on going to Typhoon Lagoon but after two very late nights we were all spent so we slept in. Jay and I ran some pre-cruise errands to WalMart and I finally got my pedicure. Then we went to Celebration to visit Jay’s friends that he used to work with at The Celebration Town Tavern, where we had lunch and, we were told, just missed Joey Fatone and his family. By the time lunch was over, the girls were calling and wanting to be picked up from the hotel so we ran and got them and decided to have an easy day, just swimming at our friend’s pool. That night we met up with our friends, Kristen and her daughter Taylor, and got dinner at another favorite of ours, Buca di Beppo at the Florida Mall. YUM!!!!!!! After dinner we went back to Kristen’s house so Cady and Taylor could play. Then it was time to head back and get our last sleep on land for the next 7 nights!!!!!!!!!!!

Great TR so far! popcorn:: Glad to see another NH native on the boards!

Well, I'm not a New Hampshire native, exactly. I grew up in Massachusetts, but moved to Orlando when I was 19 and lived there for almost 10 years. We just bought a house in Concord, New Hampshire and moved up here in March of this year.

Day One- Saturday- 9/8/07
Embarkation Day at Port Canaveral

All Aboard: 3:45pm
Port Departure: 5pm

Evening Attire: Cruise Casual
Animator’s Palate: Show Dinner
Parrot Cay: Island Dinner
Lumiere’s: French Dinner

Drink of the Day: Bay Breeze

It’s Sail Away Day!!!!!!!!!! We woke up and got dressed. Jay packed the van and tied our luggage down to the roof. We were transporting quite a few people so we needed all the space we could get! My best friend, David got dropped off at the house where we were staying and we added his luggage to the mix. Next, we swung by the hotel and got Dee, Heather and Cady, who were all decked out in our DCL Die Hards team t-shirts that I had made for everyone. One more stop before the port. We had to pick up my mother in law, Beth, who was flying in from Boston and landing at 9:15am. Once we had everyone,
HereWeCome.jpg
[/IMG]we made that exciting trip down 528! We all were getting so excited as we started passing more and more signs for Port Canaveral! (By the way, I don’t think I mentioned, this was my 7th Disney cruise and my husband’s 6th. This exact same group of us (plus Donnica, who sadly, could not join us this time….sniff.) had sailed on this exact same cruise 2 years earlier when Jay and I got married!!!) SO, we knew exactly what hill would allow us our first glimpse of the Magic and WOW, were we happy to see it!!!!

Once we made it to the terminal, we checked our luggage and while my husband went to return the rental van and take the free shuttle back to the port, the rest of us went inside to get checked in! Inside the terminal (at 10:45am) there were already tons of people in line to check in, as well as in line for the character meet and greets. This cruise was sold out and had TONS of little kids on it! So we got in the Castaway Club members line, which moved quickly and got checked in. We each got our Castaway gift of lanyards and pins, as well as our Goofy Key to the World Cards, Embarkation Information and something new to us, a “boarding pass” which had the number 10 on it. It seemed that DCL was now utilizing a number system to allow guests to board instead of having people just stand in line. This way, guests can sit comfortably, use the restroom, take pictures with the characters or wait for other members of their party to arrive, all without loosing their place in line. (Think of it as a boarding FastPass!) While we waited, we met up with the final members of our party, Christina and Christine (Stina and HannaCanna, to you, DISers) and Christine’s parents. We waited and chatted and talked about how excited we were.
CadysHappyDanceatthePort.jpg
[/IMG]We were all so happy because we had gotten exactly the dining rotation that we had requested (APLAPLA, 8pm)! As for cabins, we had all booked Cat. 12 GTYs, except for Christine’s parents, who had booked at Cat. 10. Jay and I were psyched because though our upgrade was small (Cat. 11), we had ended up in one of those sideways cabins on Deck 6, 6015, specifically. Beth, Heather and Cady would be on Deck 5 in a Cat. 11 (5631) and Dee and David were right next door to them (5629). We had stayed in that same area on the last cruise, so we knew those were great cabins! Christina and Christine were in 2009, which was also right near the forward elevators, so we had easy access to one another, too. Right around noontime, I think, they started calling numbers to board and pretty soon……they called number 10!!! Yee-haaa!!!

We got in line and went through those awesome yellow mouse-ear portholes,
DSCN7534.jpg
[/IMG]swiped our cards and….beep, beep…we were officially ON A CRUISE!!!!!!! We all stopped for the obligatory group boarding photo in front of a pirate map backdrop and then got ready to be announced. The crew member who was standing by the door loved our t-shirts so much that she announced us as “The DCL Die Hards!!!!”
DSCN7538.jpg
[/IMG]

As soon as we boarded, everyone headed up to Deck 9 to hit Topsiders for lunch, while Christina and I made a b-line for Rockin’ Bar D to get our Palo ressies straightened out. Rockin’ Bar D was, luckily, still pretty empty so we didn’t have long to wait. I was SOOOOO excited to see our dear friend, Sasha, sitting at the table! He remembered exactly who we were and was thrilled to have us back. He and Corina quickly took our info as to what meals we were looking for and told us they would call that night and let us know what was available.

With that, Christina and I went up to meet up with our party, grabbed lunch and ordered our first celebratory drinks, Miami Vices! That was when we met up with a crew member who we quickly took in as a family member, Giovanna from Peru. She was a server for the deck bars and she was a sweetheart! We would spend the rest of the cruise bumping into her, chatting with her and enjoying her service and company! During lunch, Beth went down to Guest Services to get tickets for her, Cady and Heather to attend tea with Alice, and Heather went to the Oceaneers Club to register Cady. Even though Cady wasn’t quite 3 yet, she was completely potty trained and self sufficient, so the club was happy to take her. Jay, David, Dee and myself went to find our other crew friend, Nyoman.
OurFriendNyoman.jpg
[/IMG] He had gotten a promotion from bartender to Beverage Manager and we quickly found him at Signals. “J&J!!!”, he exclaimed, which was his nickname for us on our wedding cruise! I was so amazed that he remembered not only who we were, but our NAMES! We chatted for a bit and then headed down to see our cabins, which were now ready.

After a small key mishap, which Guest Services cleared up, we got into our sideways cabin, which was very cool and seemed to have more open space than the regular cabins. We liked it a lot! The Castaway Club gifts in the room were very cool. It was a beach bag that included net bags for the beach, DCL bracelets, a funnel toy, a magnet, a notebook, hand sanitizing wipes, and a couple of DCL flags.

Next we went up to the Vista Spa for a quick tour of the new suites (gorgeous!!!!) and to get a list of the specials. Unlike previous cruises, where they would post daily specials in the Navigator, they now had one list of specials that was good for any day that we were in port. It included some massages, spa tasters and mani-pedi treatments, all at reduced rates.

At this point, it was getting close to boat drill time so we went back to the cabins again to unpack our luggage and get our life jackets. Our drill station was on Deck 4, standing out in the blazing sun, practically on top of one another, but it was all over with quickly.
SafetyDrill.jpg
[/IMG]Plus, the new life jackets are less cumbersome than the older ones were. Side note, I also enjoyed that then television in the staterooms was showing a demonstration of what would happen at the safety drill as we were getting ready to go up. This time DCL did a great job coordinating what was showing on the DCL channels to what was going on onboard the ship, but more about that later.

After the drill, it’s the BEST time…..deck party time!

SPPInDaHouse.jpg
[/IMG]A couple small notes about the deck party….the Ariel View screen does add a lot in that they project everything happening on the stage on it so that no matter where you stand, you can see the action, HOWEVER, I feel like they now rely on it too much for entertainment.
DSCN7553.jpg
[/IMG]For example, the deck party involved video clips of the crew welcoming us and of maps of our route, etc, but LESS music and less dancing. The DJ did break out some of the deck party classics like DJ Otiz “Hey, Baby (Ooo-Ahh) but I was disappointed to not here the A Teen’s “Upside Down”. Maybe we just missed it, though. Anyway, the characters did come down and dance with the cruise staff, but there was no live band, no Main Stage Dancers and far shorter of an amount of time spent on the deck party in general. It seemed like it wrapped up immediately after the countdown and the horn blow. Anyway….we still got to see Rachel, the best cruise director on the seas and the party was still a blast.
CountdowntoSailAway.jpg
[/IMG]We enjoyed dancing on Deck 9, and then heading up to Dec 10 to watch us pass the end of Cocoa Beach and head into open sea.

[/IMG]

By 5:45 it was time to go to the cabin and get dressed and showered for dinner. That night was the All Aboard: Let The Magic Begin show, featuring Randy Cabral (juggler) and Taylor Mason (ventriloquist). Jay and I decided to skip the show and took a stroll along Deck 4, admiring the gorgeous sunset
GorgeousSunset.jpg
[/IMG]and the fresh sea air.
WinkWink.jpg
[/IMG]We also walked through the gift shops and saw the stuff that was on clearance form the Mediterranean cruises. Mostly Trans-Atlantic DCL merchandise and some small items from the countries that were visited. (Pasta and glass jewelry from Italy, cologne from France, and decorative items from Spain.)

After the show, we met up with the rest of the group and went down to the Promenade Lounge to check out The Wave, music duo and then to Shutters to see our boarding photo.

Dinner was at Animator’s Palate for us with casual dress. We sat at one table (#41), just our group, since there were 11 of us all together. We met our server, Emmanuel, who we remembered from 2 years earlier when he was serving in Palo, our assistant server, Putu and our head server, Jeff.
PutuandImmanuelshowsomelove.jpg
[/IMG]The menu was the Animator’s Palate show menu. I had the Butternut Squash Soup and the Maple Glazed Salmon. Both were fabulous! My husband had the Bacon Wrapped Filet Mignon, which he said was great and Dee basically fell in love with the Cannelloni. For dessert I had Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie, which is a wonderful new addition to the menu!
SorcererMickey.jpg
[/IMG]

After dinner we did what would become our own after dinner ritual. We went back to the cabin and changed and then went to Rockin’ Bar D. We were right in time MagicQuest, the little drunken scavenger hunt for adults only, followed by Match Your Mate, the game show which never fails to humiliate the hell out of three unsuspecting couples. Another side comment, is it just me or do you also find yourself hiding at Rockin’ Bar D? Trying to blend into the walls, hoping and praying that Trent or any other member of the cruise staff does NOT pick you to embarrass yourself in any number of assorted ways. Karaoke? No thanks. Dress up as a Go-Go and lip sync on stage? No thanks, again. It’s SO not my thing! Anyway…..back to the story. Our first night at Rockin’Bar D is where we met Englebert,
Englebert.jpg
[/IMG]our server/friend who was always excited to have us join him and who saved a table for us almost every night. He was the best of the best. SO, we watched Match Your Mate and laughed at the poor souls involved and then danced for a bit while DJ Dan played our requests. Since, as always, Rockin’ Bar D was virtually empty by midnight, we had the place, and Dan’s play list, to ourselves. When I was done with the Rockin’ Bar D scene, I went up on deck to get some air, some soda and to catch the very end of Mary Poppins playing on the Ariel View. That is one thing the Ariel View is awesome for…..movies under the stars with a sea breeze blowing your hair???? Perfection!!!

I headed back down to the cabin where I was happy to find a message from Corina in Palo saying that they could take me and Jay, David and Dee and Christine and Christina for brunch the next morning. Wa-hoo! With my Navigator for tomorrow in hand, and mints and a towel animal made by Rosa on my pillow, I was beyond happy to have the Magic rock me to sleep.

Animator’s Palate: Show Dinner
Parrot Cay: Island Dinner

Well, we woke up that morning with just enough time to get dressed and get our hungry butts up to Palo. I sleep so well on the ship that I have a hard time getting out of bed! Plus the new mattresses and linens were super comfy!

Jay and I met Dee, David, Christina and Christine up at Palo at 10:30am and we were promptly greeted and seated by Sasha.
Laughter.jpg
[/IMG] Jumping right into things, he brought us champagne and brought us up to the buffet to look at our options. Having not been strangers to the Palo brunch we were excited to spot our favorite dishes, as well as some new ones. Of course, there was the seafood table, featuring crab legs and shrimp cocktail as well as bacon wrapped scallops and caviar.
SeafoodTableatPaloBrunch.jpg
[/IMG]The cheese and bread table had a great assortment of hard and spread able cheeses and an amazing array of rolls.
CheeseTableatPaloBrunch.jpg
[/IMG]The breakfast pastry table had fresh fruit, croissants and my favorite….stolen bread!
BreadTableatPaloBrunch.jpg
[/IMG]There were four varieties of pizza to choose from,
PizzasatPaloBrunch.jpg
[/IMG]plus the breakfast entrees of a frittata or pancakes and lunch entrees including lamb, pasta and chicken parmesan. And of course, we can’t forget the dessert table, filled with tiramisu, custards, trifles and pastries. We dined for hours enjoy Sasha’s company and conversation, as well as the unbelievable food! The best by far were the stolen bread with fresh berries and whipped cream, the oricchete pasta with vegetables in a cheese sauce and the chocolate pots de crème, which were to die for! By the time we were done stuffing ourselves, we were safely docked in Key West and the ship was being cleared to disembark. Because Beth and Heather were unable to join us, Sasha had wrapped up a huge plate of stolen bread with berries and cream for them, which they happily ate by the Mickey pool while Cady swam.

I should mention, the reason Heather and Beth had not joined us was because they had the character breakfast in Parrot Cay. It is a new format and they highly enjoyed it. Instead of the characters coming to the tables, the way they traditionally do at character breakfasts, a greeter now comes to the table and brings the kids to the characters. This way worked out great for Cady because there was much more interaction. Instead of just being seated at the table and having her picture taken, she got to dance, play and high-five with the characters and she loved it. Now, I do also acknowledge that most adults will probably not like this new set up as much since seeing the characters for yourself does take more effort this way, but the kids loved it. Plus, the whole breakfast is even more strongly themed to a tropical Caribbean party and there is more music and dancing.

After we all met up by the Mickey pool, we went to our cabins to get ready to disembark. We had no real plans because last time we were in Key West we got married. Because of that, no one really got to see the island so we figured we would just take our time touring on foot. Jay, myself, David, Heather, Dee, Beth and Cady walked down to the Conch Train’s loading area to check out the prices. Beth, David, Heather, and Cady decided to take the train ride to see the sites, while Dee, Jay and I opted for walking around.

We went in a few shops and then headed for Duvall Street. We went right to Margaritaville, where I was on a mission to find out the recipe for this purple Southern Comfort Hurricane that we had in Margaritaville on Grand Turk a year ago. We sat and had a drink and a fruit platter but, sadly, they did not know the recipe that I wanted. It must have been a Turks and Caicos special! After Margaritaville, we checked out the Coach store as well as a few other small shops. At this point, it started to down pour. We soon got a call from Beth that they were off the Conch Train and ready to meet up. (They had a great time on the train and thought it was worth the money, except that it had started raining by the time they made it to the Southern Most Point, so they never even got off to take a picture.) They found us on Duvall Street and we decided that Dee, Beth, Cady and myself would head back to the ship, while Heather, Jay and David would meet up with Christina and Christine for their DIS bar crawl at Irish Kevin’s.

The girls and I stopped in CVS to buy some last minute necessities and then reboarded The Magic. We decided to change for the pool and Dee and I hit up the Rainforest while it was empty and Beth took Cady to the Mickey pool. Sadly, our favorite part of the forest, the Peppermint Fog Shower, was not working properly. We spent a bit of time in the steam rooms and took a quick nap on those awesome heated tile recliners, but with the fog shower broken, we left disappointed and glad we didn’t spend the money on a week-long pass (which, for your reference, really isn’t worth the money unless you plan on using the Rainforest every day of the trip, and being realistic, you won’t.)

By now, the rest of our crew was back on board so I met up with Jay and we went back to the cabin to get ready for dinner. (The show that night was Taylor Mason’s Ventriloquism, but we aren’t huge fans, so we skipped it.) That night was Parrot Cay with casual attire. Imagine our surprise when we show up at dinner and Dee, David and Heather have all dressed for 80’s Night in Rockin’ Bar D!
Totally80sDee.jpg
[/IMG]
TheTimeofTheirLives.jpg
[/IMG]It was like eating with the cast of Footloose! They looked hysterical! As for the food, it was the regular Parrot Cay tropical menu. I’m not a huge fan of that menu so I opted for the Vegetarian Gnocchi, which I did not like. Jay had the Mixed Grill, which he always enjoys. The French Toast Banana Bread Pudding for dessert was worth the trip to dinner, though! Yum!!!

After dinner, we headed for one of our favorite events onboard, 80’s Night!!! Englebert had drinks ready for us, Cady went to the Oceaneer Club and her mother was ready to bust a move! First was Randy Cabrall’s juggling cabaret show. He was hysterical! He did a trick where he got three paddleballs going at one time….I’ll let you imagine where the third one was located. It was hysterical watching him get them going! Next, the 80’s Time Warp party started. We love the Main Stage Dancer’s two 80’s numbers, “Footloose” and their Michael Jackson montage, including “Thriller”. They really do a great job with them! David got picked to be part of “Bon Jovi” and we all took some great pictures and laughed our butts off! Also worth noting, that night we met our new, lifelong friend, James, as he, Jay and Heather had a dance off throw-down on the dance floor to “The Humpty Dance”.
80sMoments.jpg
[/IMG]We started talking and it turns out, his family is as crazy as ours! We were destined to be friends! We continued to dance and drink, Heather ripped one leg of her jeans pretty much completely off,
WhatHappenedtoYourPants.jpg
[/IMG]and finally came everyone’s favorite part of the night. My graceful sister in-law, Heather and my best friend, David, attempt the “Dirty Dancing” lift. It was a site to behold. Even better was their second attempt, when Heather decided to try and use a chair to assist her in getting some height. If you were there and saw it, you were very lucky to be treated to such a show. If not….I have the video…..hee-hee-hee!

Because we hadn’t eaten much at dinner, Jay and I opted for room service after the Rockin’ Bar D throw down so we hit Deck 9 for some sodas and then went back to the cabin for burgers, fries, Uncrustables, Mickey bars and chocolate chip cookies. Those room service steak fries were GREAT, by the way! And I should have brought this up sooner but I just thought of it. DCL disbanded the soda program all together. So, you would think that means that soda is just free now, right? Especially since they added it to the self-serve fountains that are IN Topsiders, in addition to them being outside at the beverage station. Well, wrong. You still have to pay for a soda if you get one at a bar. That seems crazy to me. Why not just not charge for any sodas at all? They are free at meals and free if you go to the beverage station, why not in a bar? Weird. Anyway….where was I? Oh, yeah! All tuckered out, we turned in for the night, falling asleep to the sounds of Desperate Housewives in the background.

But, you're finished with Key West day already. :thumbsup2 As for your picture issue, try hitting enter before and after you add the picture. Also since you are cutting the link from Photobucket, it already has the information to add a photo to the message board. Therefore you just need to cut and paste. No need to hit the little Mountain button on the Disboard for a photo. If what you cut and paste from Photobucket has
at the end you should be good to go.:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

If that doesn't help let me know and I will see what I can do to help you.
