I had a question regarding the dessert party at Epcot. Do you have to pay for admission into the park? How much is it per person?

There is a "viewing fee" of 12.95 per guest to see the fire-works. Also, you'll pay a venue fee for which ever spot you choose to host your DP

How much will you have to pay for a venue to host a DP if you don't mind me asking??

There will prob be a group of 35 (including us)..so its the 12.95 for each person, we choose UK Lochside, which has a venue fee of 325.00...there is a 75.00 set up fee (for each DP location)...plus we are budgeting to spend about 20.00 per person on goodies. So roughly around $1600.00 (this includes taxes).

Im not decorating bc I dont think people will care about that, I feel like they will enjoy the goodies and the fire-works.

That's not that bad, I thought it would have cost much more. What kind of goodies are you doing for your guests?

I havent had my Planning Session yet and I think that's where you go over a menue. But its customizable so the options are endless. :thumbsup2 I only wanna spend 20 bucks or so pp, so it wont be too ellaborate. Idk. I might change my mind about that, :rotfl:

We only had 12 people at ours, and because they were immediate family, we asked them to add a day to their park passes and use those instead of us paying the viewing fee. The viewing fee is $12.50 but the difference between a 5 and 6 day park hopper is only like $4. So that is something else to consider.

If I do a Dessert Party, it would likely be a very small group as well. However, I thought I read there was a minimum number of people for a private DP. Am I wrong?

The capacity minimums vary by site, so it depends on which venue you want. At worst, though, they'll charge you a $50 small-party fee or tell you your group is too small for a particular venue and suggest an alternative.

Dessert Parties count towards your minimum.

We are having the following...

24 Illuminations Viewing Fee @ 12.95 guest $330.20

1 Venue Pkg. Rue de Paris @ $250.00 each $266.25

24 Custom Dessert Buffet @ 28.00 guest $798.88
Fresh Fruit & biscotti w/ warm chocolate ganache
chocolate brownies
assorted cupcakes
mini-napoleons

1 outdoor set-up fee @75.00ea $79.88

Grand Total $1475.21

I can't understand wanting to use a park ticket for a dessert party. I think the $13 charge is much more reasonable-- especially if you're having the DP the night of your wedding.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you have your DP on any day other than your wedding day then the cost doesn't count toward the minimums, right?

sometimes adding a park day is cheaper than the viewing fee...is in finances it saves a penny...

I'm not so sure that's the case, Nikisha421.

No matter what, you have to pay the site fee and the cost per person no matter what.

My question was, is it cost efficient to ask your guests to use a day's park admission-- Disney just raised this-- of $82 per person on a day when most of the day is going to be spent at a ceremony and reception.

For me, that's a no. I believe it's more cost efficient- and nicer to your guests- to just pay the $13 viewing fee if the DP is on the day of your wedding.

I guess the time of the wedding and reception play into this too- if the reception is over at 2 and the DP is at 9, that's seven hours your guests need to find something to do. Using a park admission makes sense.

The price per day goes down the more days you add. So if your guests are going to play in the parks on other days, it may work out to be cheaper if they just add another day. For example- the difference between a 4 Day and a 5 Day ticket right now is only $5. It just depends on whether you want to pay $13 per person for the party, or ask them to add (approx.) $5 to their ticket price. It may work for some and some may want to, for some it may not.

Yes, it is the case. I don't think you understand what we are saying here.

The site fee and food/bev minimum are totally independent of and have nothing to do with whether or not people get into the park with a ticket or with the viewing fee.

Obviously if your guests are not going to Disney at all other than for your wedding; it makes sense to pay the viewing fee for them. We had someone who was basically just there for our wedding. So we paid the viewing fee for them to get into Epcot for our DP.

But then we also had our parents and siblings who made a vacation out of it. They were going to get 6 day MYW passes. A 7 day MYW pass was like $4 more. So I asked if they could get the 7 day passes and just use a day so their entrance to Epcot for our DP was $4 rather than $12.

Is it rude to ask guests to add days to their MYW pass to save $ on the viewing fee? Yes, it is. Is it rude to ask your parents and siblings to do it? To me, no. It's kind of crazy if you can't talk honestly with them about money matters and if $4 is such a crisis for them, tell them you'll give them the $4.

that's right...of all ppl if family doesn't understand than gosh darn it stay HOME!!!

:hippie:Proper etiquette for weddings would probably say NO (in some book somewhere, and probably general feelings about weddings), and if your are worried people will be offended, then don't do it (or at least don't ask those people) but then again - weddings are so 'different' than they have been in the past. Also, a destination wedding is a bit different, so you really have to use your own judgment and how you think people will react.

IMO, if you have like 80+ people on your guest list that aren't those you talk to everyday that would do it, maybe no - it would be a bit improper or rude to ask them to pay they extra day (even though it is $4), HOWEVER, like someone else said - if they are close, then yes they would understand. You could get a count on who is buying park tickets, for how many days - and then call them and say "would you like an extra day, I will pay you for it...I know I wouldn't turn down an extra day's ticket.

It's kinda a weird situation - it really all depends on WHO you are the closest with and who would be thinking it was tacky you even asked. Ultimately it is your decision. I am going to ask my closest family members - and if it comes up in conversation, ask the other people coming. We only invited those we are closest to in the family (50 people), so I know they won't mind if I give them a few bucks to just get the extra day.

It just depends on how close you are with certain people - maybe just ask the ones you feel most comfortable with....but then again, it's family - if you can't ask them, who could you ask??

Sorry if I rambled!

I know this isn't the case for most people but our dp is our welcome party/ rehearsal party. That makes it the night before the wedding so we told all of our guests that we plan on spending the day at epcot so if anyone wants to join us, they were more then welcome to and that is saving us allot of money as far as viewing fees go. We are having 61 guests and i know over half of them are coming to epcot with us.
