Pop Century is going to be a swingin' resort when it opens. I think the one thing that's really going to capture people about it is the memories that it will stir up. In fact, the resorts catch phrase is, "Remember when..."
When you first walk into the main lobby check in area, the first thing you see is a wall adorned with glass cases. Inside these cases, you'll find all sorts of memorabilia from the different years. The wall stretches from the 50's to the 90's. There are so many things in there that I know will stir up memories for everyone. I can just imagine a common phrase heard will be "I had one of those!!" Inspect the cases closely, and you'll find a few Hidden Mickeys!
On the opposite side of the wall, and behind the check in desk, are enlarged photos from the past, depicting your typical family pictures. There's one picture that really stood out for me. It's of a small boy, right up close to the TV set. On the TV, you can see footage of the first man on the moon. By the way, all the photos are real. They come from personal collections of cast members, and most of them feature cast members themselves.
When you exit Classic Hall out the back, it's like stepping into a far out world. When exiting, you'll exit out to a veranda overlooking the Hippy Dippy Pool, and the 60's section. There are a few steps down, with chrome Mickey railings, and some foliage that really add to the atmosphere. Behind some of the shrubbery is Petals Pool Bar, and the flower shaped pool. Just beyond that is the Kiddie Pool. On both sides of the pool, are the brightly colored 60's buildings. In any other setting, they might appear tacky, but somehow, they seem to really fit right in. Large Play-Doh icons adorn one side, and the Jungle Book is on the other.
I wish I had more time to explore, as well as my camera. I was only there for about an hour or so, far too short of a time.
Pop Century will be what you make of it. It's a value resort, so it won't have the amenities that you'll find at a Deluxe. Nor will the rooms be as spacious. BUT... if we've done our job, you'll be remembering when.
