Recommendations please. My father has a bad leg and will travel with us in Jan. I am considering a CR tower room because of access to the monorail. However, the WL is more affordable. For those who have stayed at both, is the CR a little more convenient, or a lot more. We stayed in the north wing of the WL in May and thought it was convenient to food, boat dock, elevators. Is CR access to restaurants and monorail even better? Just trying to decide if the distances are enough shorter at the CR to make it worth the extra expense and inconvenience (one room at CR instead of 2 at WL). Also, how about buildings at Poly which are close to the GCH? Just not sure how all of these compare in terms of walking distance since I have only stayed at the WL.

I would go with the CR tower. We stayed there in June. For someone with a disability that is the way to do. Not too much walking there. The wilderness is great but alot more walking and getting in and out of boats or busses.

I agree with Thekidsmom. We just got back from Poly, stayed in Tokeleau, a great location for able bodied kids and adults, 3-5 minute walk to either TTC or GCH, but if your father would have trouble with that much walking definitely go with CR tower. This was my first time staying in a monorail resort and I would have to say they are MUCH more convenient for going to the parks. While Poly was great for us, sounds like CR tower would be an even better choice for you.

I'd definitely get a Tower Room at the Contemporary for less walking. Everything you need is an elevator ride away. The "hallways" aren't that long either.

I would agree that a CR tower room would require less walking. We did have a HC room in the north garden wing that was right next to the back door that led to the Food & Fun Center. That might be another option.

No resort has the least amount of walking unless you only plan on going to the MK. In that case maybe a monorail resort is better, but if he wants to go to Epcot at all then he should choose a resort with bus transporation.
The monorail resorts do not go directly to Epcot. They stop at the TTC. From there you have to get off the monorail go down the long ramp. Then you have go up the Epcot ramp to catch a monorail to Epcot. That is a lot of walking.
The buses are much more effenicent because they drop guests off by the front gate.

My advice choose the resort you want to stay in with the price you are comfortable with.
Have dad rent an ECV(electric scooter).
I have a disability and have rented mine from Care Medical (800-741-2282) and Walker Mobility (888-726-6837) in the past. I would recommend either one.The cost is about $30 a day. The ones at the parks cost $35 a day and are bigger and have 4 wheels kinda like a golf card. They are harder to steer and to control. If he rents from an offsite rental they will deliver the EVC to bell services at the resort. He can use it to go to the pool, and food courts,or restaurants, as well as the bus stop. If he is not familar with a scooter have him practice at a store before the trip.Walmart and Target as well as several stores have them for customers.
Almost all the Disney buses are accessible. I love using my EVC it gives me more indepence and helps keep my pain to a minimum. I just back my EVC into the room, plug it in and I ready to go to the parks in the morning. :moped:
PM me if you have any questions.
Have fun at Disney!

How to help convince your dad to use scooter .

Remind dad there is a lot of walking in the parks and sometimes it is a long distance to a bench.
He can park the ECV and get in line with the rest of the family. In fact he can park it at a cental location
(near a snack bar maybe) and come for it or send another family member to get it if he needs it.

Please ask your dad the following questions. Here are the suggested answers to go with them. (I copied these question from a post on the disablities board)

1. Are you disabled (even temporarily)? Yes.

2. Do the people you are travelling with, such as your family, know you are disabled? Yes.

3. Do you expect to meet anyone you know during this trip who may not know you are disabled. Probably No!

4. Do you expect to meet a bunch of people who you will probably never meet again in your life? Probably yes!

5. Is there any reason at all that you should care what these people think about you? Absolutely No!!

6. Will using a wheelchair or ECV make for a better vacation for you and your family? Absolutely YES!

Have a wonderful vacation.

My mom uses a ECV whenever we go to WDW. She doesn't ever use one elsewhere. WDW is LOTS of walking and her bad leg would really hold her up without it. We have rented from Walker and had no trouble. They deliver and pick up at your hotel.
