I have enough Delta miles to buy 1 ticket for myself. I also gave enough Flexperks miles from a charge card to buy a ticket. Both accts are in my name. I have never tried to use miles from separate places to purchase tickets.
1. Can I book one of the tickets in my wife's name even though I won't be purchasing mine through them?
2. Is there a way to link our names so we don't end up sitting apart if there is a change in plane size?
3. Is there a way to hold the Delta sky miles ticket until I finalize the Flexperks ticket to make sure they are both available.
4. Do I get a bag free both ways with miles?

1. No idea on flexpoints. Yes, on Delta miles. Just make sure you don't check the "I am traveling" button when doing the search.
2. Possibly but it's not fool proof. Call and ask them to note in the PNR you are together.
3. Not really, but I THINK you get 24 hour risk free cancellation on Delta with miles too. Check that when you get to the "payment" screen and if so you have until midnight the next night to cancel.
5. Miles don't impact bags. Status and credit card do.

I booked two tickets, for dd and I, using dh' Delta miles. No issues, like the pp said just don't check the "I am traveling" box.

I don't think so. I have linked flights paid for differently, but was that for one person being able to deal with cancellations/delays.

When booking two different payment options, usually miles and cash, I do them in two windows at the same time. I would start one and then then do the second.

With Flexperks, you can be reimbursed for baggage, can't remember the exact amount ?$25. Charge your bags with the Flexperks card and after it shows up, you can call and get a credit. The hardest part is remembering to call after the vacation is over.

Eta: it doesn't matter who uses the tickets from the Flexperks either.

1: Yes
2: Yes---call and ask to have the Passenger Name Records merged. I do this with e.g. the companion fares.
3: Yes; the skymiles ticket should have the same cancel window (close of the next business day) as any DL ticket.
4: Once your PNRs are linked, if one of you has status or a card that allows free bags, you both should.

You cannot merge two PNRs; you can only call and ask that they be linked. I don't know of any airline credit card which allows someone not on your PNR to get your benefits, although there may be some.

Even if you're on the same PNR, your seats can be separated if there is an equipment swap.

Huh. I could swear I've moved everyone to a single PNR in the past when e.g. using the companion fare or when booking some on miles and some on cash. I could be wrong though. It's possible that the things I wanted done (everyone in Economy Comfort, everyone with my SkyPriority access, etc.) could be done just by linking vs. merging.
