Delta screws me again

They cancelled my flights for my Nov. trip. This was my second cancellation as my original reservation was direct out of Islip which they cancelled a few months ago. We were booked on the first flight out of JFK at 7:15 and of course the new 8 am flight is already booked. Our options now are a 7 am flight out of Newark. Now for those of you who know the area, we live off of exit 70 of the LIE...this would be impossible. I asked if they could put us up in a hotel in Newark but after being on hold for 20 minutes, the answer was no.

The other option is to fly out the night before on a 5:40 pm flight out of JFK. I have to see if we can add another night onto our CBR ressie. We have a nice postcard rate so it wouldn't be THAT bad if we could get it. This also means everyone taking another half day of vacation.

*Sigh*, I'm doing my best here to keep this vacation going in spite of everything that's happened. Guess I need to call the other airlines just to check. But we have $156.50 rate for a direct flight and I just don't see us getting that anywhere else with a month to go. But I will call in the morning. I really should be sleeping. Does Southwest have a direct evening flight out of Islip at a cheap rate for Nov?

Try Customer Service about the hotel at Newark. It may not help, but then again it might. I once had the airlines pay for my extra day's rental car, because they changed my flight, but I had to call a couple of times to get the right person.

Yes, I am familiar with the LIE and that would be an awful drive at that hour.
As to SWA, I would go to their website and check. www.southwestair.com
You did not supply your dates, so I could not check for you.
Another option, take the Cross sound ferry to New London and go to TF green in RI. It is about a 45 - 60 minute drive.
Frankly, I like the idea of leaving the evening before. Get a "cheap hotel" and check in to your resort the next am. Try the Comfort Inn in LBV, very close to your resort.

Have you checked Delta out of LGA? That's what we're doing next week. I think they're still offering good rates in Nov. They also have early morning flights. Perhaps Delta will at least allow you to change departing aiports for the same rate or switch you to one of the lower ones being offered for that time.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I was able to get us on an American flight out of JFK leaving at 7:45 am on our original date. Plus the fare was $5 cheaper and they offered a discount infant seat. So I'm feeling a little better but I still just have a courtesy hold until midnight tomorrow. I feel that maybe my in-laws might be changing their minds about going and this will be their out as Delta has to refund our money. So they have until tomorrow to decide. Hopefully Delta won't give me too much of a problem giving us our refund so we can book American.

Southwest was too expensive at $309.50 for their 6:50 am flight out of ISP and LGA's first flight we could get is leaving at 1:35 pm. Now hopefully American won't cancel this flight!! Guess I need to check flight schedules every day instead of every 3 days like I had been doing!!
