Delta is terrible.

I booked with Jetblue for Sept months ago, and the flights I chose have been wide open for a long while. Then I check Jetblue's site and they have the info about the fare cuts from NY to FL. Unfortunately, even though my dates and destinations were to be included, my fares never went down to the 49. each way they advertised. I called them, and they said that the plane was half full. I guess that is enough filled seats to not deduct the fare. I am leaving on a Fri and coming home on a Mon. I paid about 175 rt per person, so I am not too upset. I think 175 for a reliable airlines like Jetblue is not so bad.....we flew Delta song last year, and had our newish stroller gate checked both ways. They broke and tore it. I'm thrilled to fly Jetblue this time.

Two words for Delta airlines.....'they suck'.

I can't say as I've ever tried to get any type of credit from Delta but their customer service regarding many other issues has been the worst of any airline I have ever flown. Anything from lost luggage.. to delays.. to missed connections.. to cancelling a flight at 11am that was confirmed at 9pm the night before.. to separating a single mom with 2 small kids, not once but three different times when we had assigned seats! I honestly cannot say we have ever had a good, ontime, no problem flight with Delta. I have noticed many times their airfares are cheaper than others, sometimes by a good amount. Believe me folks, there is a reason for this...:(

I have however, gotten credits from Airtan, American, Southwest, and US Air in the past when fares went down VIA the phone with no problems. Some sent me travel vouchers, other just credited my CC.

I feel really bad for the original poster and I truly hope he gets this issue straightened out.

hoping for a good trip for the OP!

Hey everyone has an airline they prefer. I happen to prefer Delta. I have always received wonderful customer service, but I am also in a unique situation with knowing local Delta agents, etc. But I have dealt with Corporate in Atlanta when we had a horrific flight home from Ireland. We were compensated beyond my wildest dreams (seeing that it was a mechanical that Delta had no contol over), compensated enough that we flew to Disneyland at no cost AND were given extra FF miles (DH was able to use his miles for a flight to Cancun). If you aren't happy with the answers you are getting on the phone, I suggest you write a letter to Customer Care in Atlanta. They are good people. Remember just stick to facts, be courteous, and I know you will have good results. PM me if you want the address.

As for Delta disappearing if they file Chapter 11. Ummm no I don't think so, especially seeing all the other major carriers that have be in and out of Chapter 11 the last few years.

So sorry you got caught in this loser airline's final decline. it's practices like this that got Delta to the place it is. They just didn't think customer service was more important than $$. And guess what, if you don't make the customer happy, they won't book again which is why their fly volume is down.

somewhere along the line they lost focus.

When any airline issues a credit, it has to be for the exact same fare class. Airline fares are coded by a letter. An F fare is first class a Y fare is a discounted coach seat, etc. The only way airlines tend to give you a credit is if you have for example an N fare and they lowered the cost on an N fare AND there are still seats available at the N fare class on your exact flights. What probably happened is that you have a fare class reserved that is unique to online booking and the agents cannot even access it with their systems. Airlines are discounting fares more lately, but only make them available on their website. I would suggest you follow Miss Jasmine's advice and contact the airline directly. They may be able to help you more than a reservationist or their supervisor at a call center can in this case.

I also have family in the aviation industry and I will confirm that at 125.00 round trip on an 1000 mile flight, most major carriers are not making a profit on your ticket. 125 r/t is only 62.5 one way. If the airline sold all their seats at 62.5 they would make just over 9300.00 for a flight with 150 seats on it. I can guarantee you that wouldn't even cover 1/2 the cost of the fuel needed to fly the plane let alone the staff required to fly and maintain the plane. I realize that isn't the consumers problem but it is something to be aware of. The airlines, including SWA and ATA etc., make their money off the passengers who pay more than the lowest discounted fares available. This was all a result of deregulation in the late '70s.

I'm a huge fan of Delta. The price is right, the service I've received has always been great. I've booked online and through Delta Vacations, and have never had any complaints. I even double booked a vacation package due to internet problems, and they happily refunded my card and cleared the entire issue up. I've flown Delta quite regularly and have NEVER missed a connection, been dumped, had anything cancelled. I have no complaints.

Every airline appeals to different people for different reasons. Just find one you are comfortable with, and don't worry about the others. Most airline fares are comparable, so find the one you like and stick with it, then you will not be disappointed.

Just my opinion!

I also received credit vouchers to use on a future flight with Delta. The price dropped $50.00 per ticket in less than a week, I phoned and got the credit.

This just also happened to me with Jet Blue. Less than 24 hours after I booked online, the price dropped $60.00, I phoned, and now I have credit vouchers for future flights.
