I'm shopping around for a new computer and would like your opinions.

I already have a Dell but lately I've been wanting to do this to it... :badpc: :teeth:

Neither, you can do better ;)

But...if you have to choose between those two, I'd go with the Dell.

Dell, easily the best of the breed out there in terms of reliability and quailty for the price (unless you build your own).

what he said.

I've worked with Dell workstations and Servers for quite a while....when I get home, I don't want to work on a computer anymore....that's why I use an IMac.

Between those two, hands down a Dell. I had an Emachine before, okay for being a cheap machine but didnt' last long.

What would you suggest, Chad? :)

Just depends on your price range. If you are going for a budget system <$1,000, I would just go with Dell. Their budget systems are pretty nice with the monitor deals and such.

I've got an eMachine at home, we've had for 2 yrs, only issue was a viruis that screwed up the op system. At work we use Dell laptops. In the last 6 months I've personally had a hard drive crash and the keyboard got on another. In talking with a support person he showed me a pile of 25 machines that are busted from the last 2 weeks, and this is for a building that has about 4,000 people. The dells that we get are just terrible, both laptops and desktops.

You'll get better Dell support, but we've had 2 emachines and knock on wood no hardware issues

we have one of each and I actually like the emachine better. Before Chad flames me we bought it for a 4 year old to play kids games on and I'm telling you it's faster and more reliable than my Dell.

I only hold on to machines about 2-3 years so for surfing and email etc it's fine

Dell all the way, I've bought 2 of them and both have been great. never had a major problem with either, and their service is fantastic. keep shopping around on their website, the deals change every week - some weeks you get a free flat screen monitor and free shipping, while others you might get a certain amount off your purchase.

great computers, you cant go wrong.

Had Dell and Gateway - both had problems. Was thight on cash and got an e-mach 4 years ago and had no problems. Just gave that system to my parents they needed an upgrade and got another e-mach a few months bac. I will NEVER go with DELL or Gateway again. Today everyone has jsut about the same you are just paying for the name

If you buy an e-machine, get it from a place that has a REPLACEMENT WARRANTY available. If you have a problem, you void the factory warranty by breathing on them. If you have no issues, they are a great price point item.

Dells are generally good, but again, they make some low end systems. The dell support is better.

Macs have advantages, but are mostly used in MEDIA type jobs. Most Businesses use the PC software...

I will add that this isn't my experience at all. After about a year of owning the emachine the hard drive started having issues. They sent us a new hard drive no questions asked with one phone call. I was very happy with their service.

I also think that the hard drive problem was our fault and avoidable. We had a huge power surge and both computers were affected. The Dell did recover but we did have to do a complete wipe and reinstall.

I do love our Dell but really I can't tell the difference between the 2 and the Dell was $1500 more.

I bought 2 e-machines 2 years ago they are from Compaq, they were for my Dd's. We have never had trouble with the machines. It depends on what you are going to use them for.

All I use my computer for is DISing, playing games like Boggle and occasionally surfing the net to look up info. :)

I have had 6 Dells over the years, currently using 3, all are fine, service is superb.

I am really happy with my Dell laptop and have 2 family members who have recently bought Dell laptops and really like them too
