I have a Dell Latitude D600 and this morning the monitor started switching off-while I was Dis'ing no less. I turned off the computer, let it sit and tried turning it back on, it does the same thing, boots up then the monitor/screen shuts off, the computer is still on.

I have tried Dell online troubleshooting but I can't find anything that relates to this on a laptop--their search feature is hard to use if you don't have the exact problem. I did a google search but only came up with "hit the function key and F8-if that doesn't work, go to Dell troubleshooting :lmao:.

Any ideas???

My older Dell laptop got twitchy with the moniter too.
Try moving the monitor from opened til closed slowly and see if it finds a spot to make contact again.

I have an HP that had the same problem. I spent a year opening and closing the screen to get it "just so" but it still flickered. Eventually I took it in. They had to replace the screen but fortunately it was still under the extended warranty.

I tried that but couldn't get it to flicker. I am looking at the screen now and with the sun shining on it I can see that there is something there (part of a DIS post I started when it flicked off-the smileys are jumping so I know it is working. It is almost like there is a lightbulb out or a dimmer setting or something.

Ok, I have it hooked up to an external monitor and that is working fine. With the light shining on the laptop screen I can see a shadow in the background of the screen with the picture there (it is exactly what is showin on the external monitor and I can tell when I scroll up or down that it is the same thing). I have tried to adjust the brightness settings and I finally found something on dell and ran a diagnostic test (turning off the computer and pressing the function key then turning it back on). It said to contact Dell support for more information. Can I assume I need a new screen or is there a LED bulb or something that needs to be replaced?
