I would say if you are a true Disney fan then why would you skip the park being that close? I understand being bummed about all this but in my opinion Disneyland (and WDW) is so much more than fireworks and a few attractions, especially the ones mentioned. Were you planning on going to Californa Adventure because that is where Sorin' is, and if so couldn't you catch World of Color if no fireworks??? You can see fireworks anywhere (although understandably not Disney fireworks) but still from what I hear WoC would be the # choice for a nighttime show. I didn't read through all the responses because the first was a bit nasty so not sure what else has been said, but with your apprehensions maybe DL isn't really that important for you... The reasons you mentioned seem petty for a die hard Disney fan, maybe in the moment it is upsetting but if you step back you may realize the bigger picture. I hope that didn't come across bad, I don't mean to. I realize at this point you probably made your decision and hope you went to DL and have a magical day.

Not sure why people felt the need to disparage you on here because you didn't make a spreadsheet and plan every aspect of your visit. You checked the Fireworks schedule and if THAT is the thing that makes Disneyland to YOU then I'm not sure why others felt the need to chime in their unneeded 2 cents.

I can see how this is dissapointing to you, but try to get a park hopper and have a great day ;-)

In their signature it talks about their very first trip to DL, with at least one exclamation point. That means they were excited for it. They thought that Spring Break was just one week, which is always painful to me (right now in our big circle from the YMCA we're on our THIRD week of various schools' Spring Breaks, and I know there are more to come, and that's just schools from one medium sized city...there's no ONE spring break week). (I get that Disney knows that there will be one or two biggest crowd weeks, but there are SB weeks for at least a month around this time and probably more) They didn't ask here about fireworks. They assumed it was like WDW, when one of the big stories about WDW is that Walt bought alllll that land so that Anaheim didn't happen again. (the city imposing restrictions on fireworks everyday) It seems they didn't check out the motel to see if they would like it. It seems they didn't expect screaming children...at Disneyland...

It's just all so painful. We planned for months (er, I planned) for our first family DL trip which was one day (just like the OP) in the middle of a bigger SoCal trip. Planned and planned and planned. To someone like me, doing a big trip *anywhere* means planning, and NO assumptions whatsoever.

Even if it doesn't help the OP for us to express our pain for her, it might help another Disneyland newbie.

To the OP, I'm sorry that you aren't getting to see the fireworks and that some of the rides you were looking forward to are currently closed. But a Bumbershoot mentioned, Disneyland doesn't have fireworks every night and they are short compared to WDW. But that is due to restrictions from Anaheim, not the parks. As for Park Vue Inn, that hotel isn't one of the good neighbor hotels. In order for a hotel to be a listed as a Good Neighbor Hotel, they are required to meet certain standards set by Disneyland.

Now with that said, I agree with the those who have suggested getting a park hopper so that you can see both parks. There really is so much to do and see at both parks. If you go on a day that doesn't have fireworks like today, go see World of Color. The tends to go every night.

I'm so sorry things aren't how you thought they were going to be :( I highly encourage you to head into the Parks anyways. There's magic to be found EVERYWHERE and you'll hardly notice those rides are down once you get going. I think upgrading to a Park Hopper is a great suggestion too - so you can get the best of what's available. Hopefully in the future you can make another visit back at a time when all the rides and entertainment you want to experience are running.

I agree with those that are telling you to go ahead and go to the parks and not miss out. I would definitely upgrade to a hopper ticket so you can catch the attractions at DCA as well as WOC so you will still get in a nighttime spectacular (which would not describe the current fireworks show anyway). We were there during spring break with those rides down and still had more than enough to do each day (without doing Fantasmic or the fireworks) so I think you will find that it is still well worth the price of admission. I don't know what to tell you about the hotel, the ones near DL are pretty much glorified motels and screaming kids are just something that comes with the territory. What they do give you is about a $200 a night savings compared to the onsite hotels so just think of all the money you are saving! :-)

Well, it's now much later in the day, but I'm hoping you decided to enjoy it anyway. Disneyland is an incredible place and there's always plenty to do. As for the rides that are closed...well, at least Splash Mountain is open now. That one was closed for a long time. Honestly, one or two rides, even if they're popular ones, won't make or break a trip. And yeah, the fireworks thing stinks. But it's in the middle of a big city. Not much you can do about that. Imagine if you were the residents of Anaheim, having to listen to that every single night.

Let us know how it went. In my experiences, I've never had a bad trip. But I do know it must be disappointing to not know in advance.

I'm curious too. I hope they went and enjoyed the other 100 magical things to see and do there!

So, I had been excited to see the park but just found out there are no Fireworks OR Fantasmic tommorow! We are only here one day -also Matterhorn, Sourin, and Indiana Jones are closed. I'm now considering skipping the park totally and gong back to West Hollywood to finish our week there. (just left our hotel there)

Also checked into the Park Vue Inn and it is so trashy, low class and dirty. I'm horrified by this place it's like a one star motel 6. There are screaming children all over. I'm really bummed about all this but Disney isn't the same without fireworks to me.
I see you joined 3-26-2015. :welcome:

How did things turn out for you?

Geemo

To the OP:
Your subject line: "Just got to DL hotel and considered skipping it!" freaked me out! I thought there was something wrong with the DL Hotel itself. I am staying there in October. I was actually relieved to find out what you really meant. That is a bummer about the fireworks. I have never been to DL but have been to WDW at least 50-60 times and I am spoiled by the MK fireworks and Illuminations at Epcot! Hope you can get back again when more of the headlining attractions are up and operational. Thanks for the head's up on the Park Vue Inn---sounds slimy!

I have to say that I doubt the op will respond back. She got totally nailed and flamed. And for no good reason. This has been on my mind since I read those nasty comments yesterday. I see those comments have since been deleted. I've always felt that the disboards was a friendly helpful place and most certainly friendly and helpful to new Disney fans or dlr visitors. I felt really bad for the op .I actually left another Disney chat app because I was jumped on over calling a hidden pooh bear a hidden Mickey. I mean, really jumped on. I couldn't believe the nerve. I've never been back to that site because it left such a bad impression on me.if I was new, and what happened to op happened to me, I'd ditch this app, too. I had just posted a few days ago, a thank you for the disboards, that Disney people are different from the rest.I know it's just a few bad apples, but, wow. And just speculation, her user name is blondeoverbluenyc . Maybe she lives in New York and this was her only time to visit dlr. I'm really glad to see the understanding posts after, though. Yeah, it just blew me away. I hope they had fun.

Man, I feel your pain. Being a WDW vet, I got spoiled on fireworks and Fantasmic! every single night. I always come in the off-season, so I miss not having the great fireworks nightly at DL. But there's World of Color. Last time I was there in Feb, there was no WOC and just the fireworks on Friday. And the fireworks were totally weak!!! Soarin' being down is never good, but count your blessings on the Matterhorn being down. Each ride on that brings you a year closer to the nursing home. I'd still go - plenty to do at DL or DCA.

I'm glad you said this. I thought it was cruel and unneccesary for people to pass judgement on her. People are allowed to be disappointed and I think this forum should be an open place for people to express their happy as well as unmagical feelings in a kind and thoughtful way.

If fireworks are a make or break for her to have a great time then that's absolutely okay. My daughter can NOT go to DLR without riding Ariel. CAN NOT. And maybe when she's an adult it will be the same way. Who are we to judge?

I hope the OP had a great time and the scurrying kids eventually went to bed :)

Totally agree that there is no need for being rude or for flaming. But the OP did come here for help before her trip and received good suggestions. People here share their help freely and generously. When a poster asks for help, then comes back to vent frustration (and I'm not saying that the OP's frustration was invalid -- only she knows how disspointed she was), I can understand how that venting can seem like ingratitude and dumping on the very people who recently helped her -- even if that was the last thing the OP intended. That can be perceived as hurtful. Being rude and unkind to posters doesn't help anyone. But neither does dumping on the helpers. This has happened before with other posters who asked for help and then vented. The boards work best when both sides are considerate of each other. (But I know in reality that doesn't always happen.)

I agree, I think the boards work best when people keep their judgements out of their replies. If someone asks a question you can either be helpful and answer or you can just NOT. You can even be blatantly honest but why be nasty?

I can empathize with the hotel but I wouldn't miss the parks. We were just there with all that down, aside from the fireworks, and it didn't dampen our time. If it makes you feel any better, the fireworks right now are a 5 minute show. Disneyland is so much more than a few attractions.

When I go to DLR and have a bad time I have nobody to blame but myself...... oh... wait.... I ALWAYS HAVE A BLAST!!!

As with anything and everything in life, it is what you make it. Expect a bad time, you'll have one. Expect to have fun, you are all but guaranteed it.
