In my country, it's weird to do things alone. We are a lot more dependent on each other than Americans, and sometimes, that just isn't a good thing because we are more afraid to venture out alone unless we have at least someone else with us.
That's why booking my WDW solo trip was a huge deal for me, I agonized over it for a good period of time before finally deciding to go. I figured that if I don't do it now, I'll never be back in the USA for maybe another decade. I would have also gone to Universal Studios, but I think that's another trip for another time.
It's your family and friends for you, but for me, it's my whole culture. So don't be upset, it could be worse.
I'm really looking forward to my trip in May, meeting new people is awesome and it's so much easier for them to talk to you when you are just one person. I found it already so easy booking tours and making restaurant reservations when you are just deciding just for you. I'm not fussy, I don't mind eating lunch at 3pm in the afternoon just to be able to eat at a popular place like Boma, but if I was with another person, she/he might not feel the same way and I will have to compromise and give up the restaurant.
Just do not be bothered by what anyone says. Think positive, know that you will have a great time, and you will. Be friendly, make conversation and keep an open mind. This is a vacation for yourself from yourself, feel free and confidant. I plan to smile a lot and just enjoy this very special "me" time. In fact, I'm thinking of extending my trip by a day so that I can do more shopping.
