I've always been amazed at how expensive veils are, considering how EASY they really are to make. If you are just doing a thread-finished edge, they are super-simple! I made mine for my first marriage (though it wasn't exactly a veil - it was a large bow that had two veils coming down underneath it.) This time, my mom made mine, and it was just the veils with no blusher.
A little harder to do, but still not that bad, is ribbon-edging on the veil. That's what my mom did for mine, and it was beautiful. The only thing we would have changed is that she really wanted to trim it in a blue ribbon and blue organza flowers at the top to match the blue in my dress. The problem was, she was too far away, and she wasn't sure how exact of a match the swatch of material I gave her was. She was afraid that if it didn't match exactly, it wouldn't look right.
For anyone who has a dress with some color in it, I think that would be the best - making a veil trimmed in the matching color, with matching swarovski beading on it. Even if your dress doesn't have color, the veil could be a way to put a small, subtle bit of color in! Think iridescent pink, blue, purple, or something like that....
