The Running Thread - 2026

Any feelings about Sweaty Betty leggings? Our costco has them in 3 colors right now for about $35/ea.
Haven't tried their leggings, but I have a pair of their fitted shorts that I like to wear for shorter races because they're comfy and I can fit my phone in the back pocket. Only downside is you're not supposed to put them in the dryer.

what if, much like the "not dishwasher safe" items I own, I just really believe in them and that they will adapt?

because if I can't machine wash/dry it, it's not coming in my house

I suspect it's because any fabric they call anti-stink has this same label. Something about high heat can erode whatever they infuse it with to make it not stink. It also impacts wicking fabrics, though I dry most of my stuff at low temp without fabric softener.

I own one air-dry rack, which is only for my athletic apparel: sports bras, compression shorts, spandex leggings. I do think that allegedly the wicking and anti-smell materials are supposed to not react well to the high heat of a dryer, plus a lot of the stretchy type fabrics don't do well with that. I kind of figure if I only have enough stuff to fill the rack once per week, it's not that big of a deal, because they can hang until I use them again, if I want.

yeah, with the exception of my chef's knives, fragile stemware and cast iron. I will put it in the dishwasher, labels be damned.

Happy to report I took your advice and was able to finish! Might have been my slowest marathon time ever with a lot of walking but knowing my limitations, I decided to make the most of it by finally eating the famous chili cheese dog at mile 5 and doing a shot of fireball at mile 23. A different kind of PR if you will 🤣
That's called a "PR in fun" and potentially indigestion, with the chili dog and fireball combined with physical activity 😂

Same. I’m not going to hand wash, but I have no problem hanging to dry. I air dry all of my bras and a few select exercise items.

I know a few folks that just wash some items while they shower and that wouldn’t be so bad….

My rD race shirts and other moisture wicking shirts that I want to last get to air dry, ditto for my running shorts where the drawstring likes to catch in the dryer lint trap and get all twisted up. The rest gets the dryer on medium heat.

I keep seeing laments about the demise of RnRC by Aerosmith and how it was/is a bad decision by Disney.
I am firmly in the camp of wanting to keep the full Aerosmith Rockin' Roller Coaster experience, but.... Aerosmith sold their music catalog to Universal Music four years ago. Unclear if maintaining the license was deemed too expensive, or if Disney wanted to update/change the theming anyway. Probably both.

I like "Can you picture that" as much as the next Muppet Movie fan, but I'm not sure what other music they'll be using. Will it be some of the pop music tunes played on The Muppet Show over the years? Could be. If so, how many different tunes will be utilized for the ride? Which tunes have the upbeat tempo that the ride deserves?
Thoughts?

more importantly "will they fix the first generation Vekoma restraints?"

There was a fun series on D+ a few years ago called Muppets Mayhem, about Dr Teeth and the Electric Mayhem band. I suspect based on early concept art that they are going in that direction. They played a lot of covers of 60s/70s/80s music which could be really fun on the ride. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Muppets_Mayhem_(soundtrack)

Officially signed up to do the Loony Challenge at the Twin Cities Marathon weekend. It’s a 10k followed by a 5k on Saturday of the race weekend, and a 10 mile on the Sunday. And then like 2 or 3 weeks later I’ll be at Wine and Dine 😂.

I’ve completely fallen off of running since Princess (somewhat Dr recommended, but not fully). So I guess this means I need to get back to it. I’m walking a 5k this weekend with my husband, and I’m trying to get out more, but I think I fell into a bit of post rundisney weekend blues. Is that a thing?

Anyway, just wanted to throw it out there that I am doing another race series!

Looking for opinions! I’m in the midst of planning out my training/race schedule for the year.

I’m signed up for my favorite 10 mile race in early October followed by my A race marathon 2 weeks later. I’m wondering what the group thinks about my 10 miler being an “A-“ race as in I’d love to attempt a PR there as well as in the marathon. I usually plan on a 12-14 mile run that day as I start my taper so I’m curious if the drop in mileage would allow me proper recovery going into my taper. What do you guys think?🤔

>> VERY much a thing, IME!

It's a thing, IMHO.
You've been training for weeks/months for a race, then you get back from it, medal and/or shirt in hand, and you're like "Now what?", akin to the dog that caught the car.
For me, it is take a few days to recover and then back to training for whatever is next, and because I now get antsy if I'm not doing some sort of active exercise.
And find another race to have on the horizon as a target, even if it is a local 5K. Just something to be The Next Thing.
YMMV

If you would normally be doing 12-14 miles on the day of your 10 miler, then I'd say you would be good going for a 10-miler PR, given that the marathon is 2 weeks later.
My thinking is that the 10 miles is a slightly shorter distance, but with higher effort to achieve the PR, so largely a wash.
If you assume 2-3 days to recover from the 10-miler (depending on how all-out you do it for the PR), resume the taper with whatever mileage you would have been at on that day in the training plan, or even a mile less or at a slightly easier pace than you would've for that day.
As Bob likes to say, by that point most of the hay is in the barn, so I personally don't think a few recovery days will hurt your marathon time.
YMMV

I’d get a new pair. Once shoes begin to fall apart, it’s time to retire them.
OK, update time: upon some further evaluation, it was a small 1/2" flap that was loose. I cut it off and the rest is fully adhered for now. I'm going to try to get a few more miles but it's time to start working in the new pair.

This was what I am hoping for, dropping the mileage but increasing the effort could be a wash.
