I agree go get it!! And tell him how much you saved making your own veil!!!

Happy shopping!!

there you have it! Tell him that you are making your veil for $50, when it would have cost $300 at the bridal shop! Plus with your coupon, it will be so dirt cheap...:rotfl2:

yay for buying the crystals and tulle! :yay:

Wow, I had no idea veils were that expensive . I think I might have to go the DIY route also. Could be fun adding hidden mickeys in them. Kristen, I would love to see a pic when you're done with it ;)

I'm going to make my veil too!:) I love the hidden mickey idea! What size crystals did you buy and how do you put them on? are they sewn? glued?

I bought 3mm swarovski bicones and sewed them on (ok, Mom did) with clear thread. Mickeys were 3mm and 5mm swarovski round, also sewn on with clear thread (by me).

yeah, I used a sewing machine. I wouldn't have been able to do it by hand! As it was, it took a long time!

Did you order crystals or rhinestones? I would use rhinestones if I were gluing...although I suppose you could hot glue the bicone beads, too...

I've always been amazed at how expensive veils are, considering how EASY they really are to make. If you are just doing a thread-finished edge, they are super-simple! I made mine for my first marriage (though it wasn't exactly a veil - it was a large bow that had two veils coming down underneath it.) This time, my mom made mine, and it was just the veils with no blusher.

A little harder to do, but still not that bad, is ribbon-edging on the veil. That's what my mom did for mine, and it was beautiful. The only thing we would have changed is that she really wanted to trim it in a blue ribbon and blue organza flowers at the top to match the blue in my dress. The problem was, she was too far away, and she wasn't sure how exact of a match the swatch of material I gave her was. She was afraid that if it didn't match exactly, it wouldn't look right.

For anyone who has a dress with some color in it, I think that would be the best - making a veil trimmed in the matching color, with matching swarovski beading on it. Even if your dress doesn't have color, the veil could be a way to put a small, subtle bit of color in! Think iridescent pink, blue, purple, or something like that....

The bicones do have a hole through them.

I'm glad I can help! :) Save money on the veil and get a good tiara (my aunt bought me my tiara...dang it was pricey! LOL).

One other thing, if you are sewing the crystals...definitely use clear thread, b/c you can see the white (if you look at veils at the bridal shop, you can see where they use white thread.). It is a bit tricky to use. Make sure you run the thread through the bead at least twice when anchoring it on the tulle, and triple knot the ends.

Also make sure you have very good lighting...it will make it much easier!

Regarding pricey veils... I tried on one that they were asking $650 for! That's more than my dress cost!! I'll prolly end up using the info in this thread to make my own :thumbsup2

Regarding purses.... if the Coach Outlet lets you down and you can bear to carry a no-name bag... eBay! I got my wedding purse for $5! (Also, if you find one you like, see who else is selling it - all the other sellers wanted $29 for my purse :confused3 ).
