Oh no!! Poor John!! I'm sad that he'll never trust you about Soarin'! He just doesn't know what he's missing!! :-(

Have you ever watched the Behind the Scenes Disney World DVDs? (They're on instant cue on Netflix) They show the Soarin' mechanism and maybe if he saw how tame it was he'd go for it.

Looks like you're having a fun day so far though!

I think he understands Soarin', but he never tried it. Oddly, he talked about trying Star Tours near the end of this AP year. Someone he works with had him convinced it wouldn't make him sick at all.. Dunno about that one, but Soarin' is nothing! I'm sure he'll ride the first time Blake is tall enough for it.

Awww, your poor husband on Test Track! I get motion sick as well, but not as severely as him! I can't do things like Mission Space or the tea cups! That nasty feeling in your stomache is the worst! Too bad he won't try Soarin' though! I usually can't do big screens like that, but I'm fine on Soarin'!

It seems like a great day anyway though! I can't wait to hear about your meal!

It's kinda funny to us now, but he wasn't all that happy when they were finished with the ride. I didn't really think Test Track was that bad, but I guess parts of it are. I'm just super glad the boys don't have motion sickness like this! Andrew used to have car issues, but never a problem on rides yet.

It would be really nice to have the boys sitting alone in front of us on some of the rides! Probably not much longer, either.

Test Track is skippable? I'm very surprised...I would have guessed Test Track would be very popular with little boys.

Test Track should be perfect for a little boy! Andrew likes to be different, I guess. I'm shocked every year when we can't get him to help clean out the halloween pumpkins. Aren't boys supposed to be into all that gross stuff? He won't touch it! I'm betting Blake will probably love this ride when he's tall enough.

Fun morning. It's cool to see all the Flower & Garden stuff and the modified JAMMitors. Can't believe that John took a spin on Test Track! Maybe someday you'll get him to brave Soarin'. I love Test Track, even though it's skip-able for Andrew. Looking forward to more of this day!

We'll make him ride Soarin eventually. I really think Blake being tall enough for more stuff will push him into it.

We raced away and headed straight for World Showcase. I didn’t want to be late for this ADR and hadn’t expected a visit with Nemo to take quite so long! It has to be the oddest ride sometimes. Usually, we saw it with only 5-10 minutes. This day, it was at twenty! I should’ve skipped, but we’d make it alright. We even took another try at a pic with Lightniing McQueen.

Mmmmmm.. Cooookies.

“Remind me to get one of those for the boys before we leave.”

“Get one of those for the boys before we leave.”

“Not now!”

He thinks he’s so funny sometimes.. He didn’t remind me and I totally forgot. We’d leave without cookies.

We made it to the restaurant in plenty of time and checked in. Andrew greeted everyone by showing off his language skills, of course. For once, I actually understood what he was saying Thank you, Kai-Lan. She taught me how to say “hat” in Chinese, too. Cute show!

We were seated immediately and saw the place was mostly empty. That was perfect for me. We didn’t know how this would go so it was better not to have lots of other guests for the boys to annoy. Aside from two CMs that stood just behind us, this was one of the quietest meals we've ever had at Disney.

Our orders were taken just as fast, but there wasn’t too much to the menu. Picking something was pretty easy. John asked our server what he’d recommend and just went with that. I never trust those recommendations, but he seemed pleased with whatever it was. I was a little disappointed in the options and went with honey sesame chicken. Simple and yummy. The boys were just thrilled by the cups they got and pretended to be drinking coffee the entire time.

We had some fun trying to make letters for a bit. John and Andrew asked our server for help with a word, but never did get it figured out. This CM claimed to not know Chinese at all so that didn’t go very far. For a moment, I assumed he just didn't want to play along, but he didn't have a problem sticking around to talk for a long while. He told us his life story instead. I have to say that was probably more interesting than learning a word I’d forget two minutes later. As it’s now much more than two minutes later, I can only remember that he was from New York. Haha. Guess it wasn’t that interesting, huh?

“I can do it all by myself ” & he did!

Our food wasn’t all that exciting, but it was okay. We skipped dessert. I had plans for later this time.

Overall, Nine Dragons was something I’m glad we tried to check off the list. There was really nothing special about it at all so I don’t see us going again anyway.

We didn’t give up on China just yet and spent a little more time exploring. The boys had shown some interest in trying the Duffy-on-a-stick activity, so coloring a bear was our next stop.

That was pretty wild. The boys collected their stamps and we all learned our Chinese signs. Andrew and I are dogs. Blake's a rat and John is a monkey. That stuff is kinda neat. I've always thought mine suits me pretty well, even if it's all quite silly.

Then it was time to color! Andrew wanted his Duffy to be perfect and was content to stay here.. ALL day! We let them color for a bit and I did some shopping around. Eventually, I reminded him that Duffy would come home with us, but we couldn’t collect stamps outside of Epcot. I didn’t really want to rush him, but those masks were definitely a little less of a project to finish! He found a stopping point and decided he had a better variety of colors at home anyway. Yay for that!

We stopped in to check on the tomb warriors next. It was really crowded, but we still had a fun time looking around at everything. The boys have never been impressed with this though. Too bad..

These two were the biggest hits of the whole place for them!

Andrew checked on the wet paint before saying goodbye to China. What’s the story with these signs?

Though we rarely have any room for dessert after meals anyway, this day I had planned a journey back to the caramel shop to finally pick something yummy. You’re always hungry twenty minutes after Chinese anyway, right?

I didn’t notice this amazing caramel bar that PirateKate goes on about, but I’m sure it could’ve been there. Having seen a picture, I would’ve skipped that one anyway. I went with a pecan caramel cluster that looked like a huge mess. No one else in my little family wanted anything! They’re nuts. The boys were more interested in collecting another stamp for those Duffy bears so I wrapped up my treat for later. We needed to get back to their project.

Cool update. I think this is the first time I've ever seen a report on Nine Dragons (and we have not been there either). Good to see what it's like. We also never seem to spend a lot of time in China wandering around, so it's good to see those pics too. I can't believe that no one else wanted anything from the caramel shop! Nine Dragons wasn't terrible, but still nothing special. Maybe that's why no one reports on it?

This day is really quite dull. We wandered all the way around WS to collect those Duffy stamps. I also started a collection of WS pressed pennies after making John buy something for change.

We spotted the juggler out again, so that became our break spot to watch and finally enjoy my caramel treat. John skipped even trying any of it. He’s not big on stuff like this. Andrew said it looked too gross, and he was partly right. It wasn’t the prettiest thing in the world. Blake and I split it without them. Despite the look, it was delicious.

While Blake and I enjoyed our snack, Andrew decided to take care of the Duffy stamp alone. He loved the bit of “big kid” freedom, not knowing that John was watching just behind him the entire time. It was cute. While getting the stamp, he was also given another fun activity to take around WS with us. It was a “Race Around World Showcase” booklet that advertised the new Cars movie. Several stops would give them a stamp, with a prize after collecting them all. Nifty stuff! He was thrilled with it and raced back to give Blakers the details.

Love this one.. We watched Lady & the Tramp for “Family Movie Night” this week!

Nearing America, we had some pretty awesome luck to run into a bunch of characters just coming out. A CM was rushing everyone around to line up to hurry and meet as many as we could. We were all super excited to see Mr Smee! John quickly found the boys’ autograph books while we jumped in line.

We quickly managed to see all of the characters that were out, except for Goofy. It was great!

haha.. Minnie insisted he pose for a picture, too!

The best of the bunch was Mickey, of course! He loved Andrew’s sunglasses and made a big deal over them. He motioned for the boys to cross their arms to pose for a fun pic.

So much fun! It all went reeeeally fast, but they loved it. Andrew was most thrilled with adding Mr Smee to his book.

This kidcot stop was definitely the most unorganized! I found it a little funny since it was the most staffed stop of all WS, too. Children and parents were clustered around and all rushing the table at once. It was the only stop we did that didn’t have a line, but a mess. I held the boys back to let it clear. They didn’t mind at all. We left with more stamps and their Lightning McQueen stickers!

The wild wait for kidcot wasn’t all bad for me. I noticed the little garden for the first time, so we took a bit to check it out. Everything was too adorable back here. The strawberries looked really yummy. John joked about picking one for me when I mentioned how good they looked. He didn’t, of course! We were both amazed at how rough some plants did look, and could tell it was due to guests picking at them. People are awesome..

Clever, right? It should’ve been filled with flowers!

Loved this. They had the worst time trying to decide who should get to put their arm in front!

We spent the rest of the afternoon exploring WS and collecting those stickers and stamps. In Japan, I noticed a package of cookies for sale that the boys had pointed out in Target’s “Dollar Spot” days earlier. At WDW, they were over four bucks! The exact same cookies! We all had a nice laugh over it.

In Morocco, John had a bit of fun learning how to spin something with a CM. I have no idea what they’re called, but he enjoyed it!

France disappointed us with a broken penny machine..

We enjoyed checking out the Beasty & the Beast F&G stuff..

and met a new friend to add to the boys’ autograph books.

Making our way around the rest of World Showcase, we’d end our journey in Canada for a while. Mexico and Norway decided they were okay with waiting until later in the day for stamp collecting. Like I said before, it was pretty dull. While I did notes on this day, it was just a laid back adventure to complete those Duffy bears!

About the time we walked out of Canada, the weather started to take a little turn. It grew very windy and I spent the rest of our walk fighting my hair! Annoying, but that’s what you get for always wearing it down, I guess. I jumped into the shop (no idea what it’s called) to hide out while the boys went in search of that “Race Around World Showcase” prize.

After browsing the entire store, I began to wonder what happened to my little family. I asked a CM where the end of the race was and headed in that direction, just missing my boys! We seemed to circle each other around that little area for the longest time before I decided to simply stand still and let them run into me. Funny how that happens sometimes!

And this big prize for collecting all the stickers?? They were each given a button! Haha.. Gotta love Disney and those buttons, right? The boys liked them!

We stuck with the idea of putting off the last two Duffy stamps and moved back in Future World. We were about to finally try something new!

Can't find a play area to let the kids get rid of some energy? Make one! This family cracked me up. You can't really see much of them, so I'm posting it. They were adorable.

I’d often read about some “dinosaur” ride at Epcot, but could never place what anyone was talking about. Reading about Nine Dragons, I finally looked into it a bit. The boys are both wild over dinosaurs, so this was definitely something for us! We’re never in that part of the park, but would finally go over to have a look at Ellen’s Universe of Energy. I’d only looked into it enough to know that it was sort of a show type of attraction and that dinosaurs were involved somewhere along the way. This would be totally new to all of us!

While I can’t remember a lot of the details, this one actually went over quite well with the boys. Ellen is hilarious and they both knew right away that she was Dory from Nemo. They’re also big Jeopardy and Bill Nye fans, so the it all worked for them. I didn’t care for all the “stupid Judy” stuff, but most found it funny. I do know the entire thing was sooo long! John looked like he was falling asleep a few times! I doubt we try this one again due to the time it takes, but it was a fun experience.

What wasn’t a fun experience was what we’d see as soon as it was over! During our journey to learn the history of energy, the windy day had turned into a rainy day! The walkways around here were covered in water, with the stroller parking area completely flooded. John waded into it to bring it back to us. On the stroller, everything was ruined! Those Duffy bears the boys spent all day working on were falling apart. The folding changing pad I used for Blake was soaked, all the diapers inside ruined. That was such a mess to get rid of. Thank goodness I always kept a couple spares in my bag! The little guy wasn’t quite ready for the potty back then.

The worst part of all was the awesome pixie stickers & coloring sheets the boys were given earlier in the day. John had wrapped in a merchandise bag a Mouse Gear CM gave him, but they were now missing! I couldn’t decided if someone had lifted it from the stroller, or if the wind might’ve taken it. The Duffy bears were still firmly in place, so I sadly assumed it was probably the first guess. I guess it wasn’t a smart thing to leave out here, especially since it looked like a store purchase. Andrew was a little heartbroken over it, so we decided to see if anything could be replaced next.

The sky didn’t exactly agree with these plans and we didn’t make it very far. Everyone decided it would be best to call it a day and hurry to the car before things got too much worse. That was it for day thirty!

One month & one day to go!!

Exploring all of the options for the first evening, we finally came up with a plan. My early bedtime idea has gone out the window, and I'm thinking of pulling Andrew out of school a little early. John wasn't a fan of him ever missing school for something silly, but I don't think it'll be a problem if he only loses an hour or two. At his first parent/teacher conference, Andy-Roo was already at or beyond all but one of his end of year expectations. (It was writing, but he's almost there, too!) I don't think he'll suffer much.

So the new plans??

We're going to our first MVMCP!!

I have sooo much reading to do! We're going to surprise the boys with it when we get there, too. I've always wanted to do a surprise trip, but I can't keep the excitement to myself. This will be as close as we get to one. The boys think we're just going to dinner off property and hanging out at Pop that evening. Don't tell!

I hope so! I had to read your TR posts about it again today. Since we've seen the parade, shows (minus Tomorrowland's thing), and fireworks, I wasn't really worried about managing everything. I looked over the schedule and threads about it earlier and now I'm completely stressed! I feel like I'll need to camp in front of the castle for most of the night, which is something we'd hoped to avoid. I might not be able to keep this a secret, as fun as it would be. I need Andrew's input! He's always been my little co-planner in Disney visits and I'm lost without him! I can't decide if we should try for the dwarfs or not.

I can't wait until the party! We were all really sad to have missed MNSSHP this year, but the break has been nice. MVMCP sounds the like the perfect surprise start to getting back into the parks again!

Rain soaked strollers are awful! I wouldn't want to ride in one after and all those ruined Pampers were tough to look at.

April 19, 2011 * Day 31

“What’s that big red thing?”

“What big red thing? The sun?”

“Nooooo, in front of us. That BIG red thing!”

My picture doesn’t even come close to doing it justice. The sun on this particular journey to WDW was amazing. It seemed to have doubled in size. Andrew was in disbelief. That “big red thing” couldn’t possibly be the sun. It was too big! A few miles later, he accepted and was in awe. We love sunrises and this was definitely one to remember.

The Disney ban in April didn’t last terribly long. I had a feeling that it might not work out well. In a family of WDW addicts, one of us was bound to convince the rest that a mouse fix was needed. For this visit, it was me. I read that the Easter Bunny was coming to MK. Who could pass that one up? He had to be better than mall bunny!

With an 8am opening ahead of us, this day started early. The car was parked with plenty of time to make all the low early waits before our bunny plans. We walked to the end of our row just in time to meet a tram. It had parked and guests began to climb in. No debate was needed. We could walk this and beat them in no time.

A CM from the tram called to us with the walking time. He seemed on the side of simply riding.

“If you can beat the tram, you’re in good shape!”

Hmmm. I didn’t know how to take it at first, but John just waved. We walked and managed to make it over well before the tram people did. Take that, silly CM.

John and Andrew ran off for a restroom break while Blakers and I watched the crowds running by us. In the middle of it all, someone would break away and head straight for us. It was a CM, and she was especially perky for such an early hour. She kneeled down beside Blake, and excitedly started talking to him. VERY loud..

“Is this your first visit??”

Blake simply stared at her. He glanced at me with a classic Blaker look. Was this woman serious? Who has that much energy this early in the day? There had better be Mickey stickers at the end of this..

“Yes!”

I had to laugh at that. When in doubt, smile and agree. Zero stress and good things will happen, right? Words Blake lives by sometimes, I think. I told her it wasn’t his first, but it didn’t stop the craziness. She pulled out some Mickey stickers for him before bouncing off again.

“Maybe it will be the first you remember!”

When she was gone, Blake gave me that look again before smiling.

“I got more Mickey stickers!”

He’s a genius.

The rest of our family returned and he shared the story of “the lady that talks too much!” before we moved down to the ferry. Everyone was being directed that way, and it was fine for us. I think the park had morning EMH that day, if that made a difference.

With no show to watch, we followed the madness to bag check. John took the boys ahead to wait. It seemed to be the new routine and made sense. There’s no reason for them to fill up the line if the stroller was allowed in the “no bags” lane. I chose the left side, something completely out of character for me, and inched forward. The CM at the other end of the table was doing a very thorough job. A single bag was taking the same time as two at the table beside us. It’s just my luck to choose the wrong one. Oh well. This particular bag check would prove memorable to me.

I’d often read on bag check threads about incidents involving feminine products. The posters writes as if the CM blushes and acts differently at the sight of such things. Going often, and always keeping this stuff in my bag, whether needed or not, I believed they were simply.. Full of it! Never once had a CM reacted to my little Ziploc bag. Today, all that would change.

I unzipped my bag and slowly pushed it forward with each guest. My turn came and I greeted the CM.

“Good morning!”

He hadn’t been talking and it kinda bugged me. He smiled and went to work without a word, pawing through my things. Then he came to that bag.

“Could you.. Uhhh.. Please.. Lift that out.. Please..?” he stumbled through the words, his face blushing.

He had to be kidding. A bag just like this had been kept in every Disney bag since we started visiting the parks. Countless checks had gone by without a second thought to its contents. I’m not one to get embarrassed over this kind of stuff (Clearly, or I wouldn’t be sharing this!), but this situation was so unexpected! I couldn’t possibly the first to carry such a thing through those lines. Looking up, I saw my husband watching, and laughing. We’d just talked about this recently. On a positive note, it must’ve inspired speed in the CM because he did finish up with mine much quicker than the rest.

“Think you’d better apologize now?” John asked when I dropped my bag on the stroller. He just couldn’t stop laughing over it and reminding me of what I’d said while reading the DIS just days before.

“Just wait until they see what I bring next time!”

I never did remember to bring anything “worse” in my bag, but there you have it. I am very sorry for judging and not believing every DIS poster who claimed such things happen in the bag check line. Now I believe you.

Moving on!

Inside the park, the first item on our “to do” list was checking on bunny times. We walked towards GS/City Hall/Whatever and soon saw there was no need to inquire at all. The Easter Bunny himself came hopping out into his spot! The boys went straight towards him and were first waiting in line!

While excited to see him, yet slightly confused about the female bunny, this didn’t end well. We decided to check times and plan to visit again a little later when I might learn how to use my camera!

Not-so-crooked castle pic? I think we’ve gotten better at this!

We moved straight through the castle to begin our Fantasyland routine. Mixing it up just a bit, Pooh FPs were collected before a planned ride on PPF.

On the way to the ride, everyone was distracted by a Blaker discovery. He spotted the crocodile on top of the building! We all loved it!

The posted wait time was at twenty minutes, but no one minded this. We’ve done well at not waiting for rides too much and this wasn’t bad for PPF anyway. I loved watching the boys play with each other in the line and took one of my favorite Blake & Andrew pictures.

The Haunted Mansion was somewhat on our list this time, too. We hadn’t seen the new stuff outside yet and planned to check it out. Planned being key word again. The boys objected to it because they wanted on the ride right away! This is not typical for Andrew at all, so we took full advantage of his enthusiasm and hurried right through. He rarely shows much interest in this one so we really played it up! He made the ride great!

So much fun! Blake had completely stopped his stretching room scream by that point though. I miss it!

Our Pooh FP time was due, so we went straight to the FP machine for another set. My poor boys both got stuck along the way..

They pretended to be trapped in the bars, getting the attention of a CM nearby. She thought it was hilarious and stopped to chat for a bit. I left them going on about our day with John and collected those FP . I found myself more distracted by a conversation over here.

“Seven more minute??”

At first, I thought he was speaking to me. Then I noticed a very confused CM trying to sort this out. English was not the man’s first language, but this was all he could seem to say about the situation. I gathered that it wasn’t time for more FPs yet, but the CM couldn’t get the message through to him.

“Seven more minute??”

The CM tried, pointing at the FP and explaining again. The man had much longer than seven minutes before he could get another. It didn’t go very well.

“Seven more minute??”

“Yes. Seven more minutes..”

He gave up! I felt bad for the man and whoever had to talk with him in seven minutes. I could kinda see why that conversation wasn’t going anywhere though. The language thing is never fun.

Walking over to Pooh’s ride, John parked the stroller just as we always do. One boy walked with me, and the other took his hand. It was all routine, and one we’d done countless times before. It wasn’t until we made it halfway through the FP line that we noticed a problem with this system.

“Do you have my bag?”

“I thought you had it.”

Going through our robotic motions, neither of us grabbed it!

I began to panic. It was placed on top of the stroller and would’ve been easy enough to grab & go. We’ve been through the lost wallet ordeal of our first Disney year and I was excited about repeating the process of replacing cards and licenses again! Even worse, I had two $50 Am Ex gift cards that I assumed couldn’t be replaced at all. No way could we stay in this line now! I started to lead us out.

“You stay and ride with the boys. I’ll get it.”

Before I could say a word, John was headed back to the entrance to the ride. I held my breath, hoping no one had noticed it. Throughout our WDW adventures, I’d always been amazed at the number of guests who leave bags and things on their strollers. Stuff must not be stolen that much. However, we’d managed to lose a baby toy, a bottle of sun screen, and that bag of Tink stickers during our visits. If someone would take that silly stuff... Eek! I didn’t want to think about. I spent the rest of the wait trying to catch a glimpse of my husband holding that bag outside the ride!

Our turn soon came and I never spotted John. This wasn’t good at all. I imagined him seeking out the nearest CM for information on where to go next. It wasn’t a good image and I feared for the rest of the day.

Unaffected Andrew cheerfully told the CM that we were “Now a party of just three!” and we climbed inside our honeypot. A mother and daughter filled the seat behind us. She was one of those overly excited, pointing “Look at that!” moms that make me nuts. It didn’t suit my worried mood but did inspire the boys to start doing the same thing to each other. They’re completely nuts and had so much fun!

That “Hooray!” was definitely perfect this time. John met us in the gift shop with my bag. How scary that was! We decided it might be best to take a stress relieving break next. In Fantasyland, one place is perfect for mind clearing relaxation. Time for Mickey’s Philharmagic!

After that show, anybody would be smiling again! For the very first time, I heard a very annoyed CM addressing the guests that park themselves midway down the row, too. He shouted at us all to keep moving and make others do the same.

“Don’t climb over them! Tell them to MOVE!”

It was different and kinda funny. The show itself was great, as it always is.

Sorry your Pooh ride was ruined by the possibility of a lost bag. I wouldn't have been able to relax either! I'm glad everything worked out.

I feel for the CM and the guest in the language barrier situation! It can be so difficult!!
