Defective Dooney & Bourke Purses

Interesting because we cruised on the Wonder in Feb and there were some purses with nice placement on them. Being willing to just trade in my old one for a new one, I asked the manager of Treasure Ketch about the defective straps. I don't remember the exact words but she told me I would have to contact Disney merchandising who would see if it was a legitimate problem and then they would get in touch with manufacturer and see if anything could be done. I would have to ship my bag to Disney who would in turn ship it to the manufacturer.

Fortunately, I already knew that DB would take care of my purse so I just said "Thank You" and walked away. It would have been nice to have handled it on the ship.

I bought one on the Magic earlier this month. So far, so good. I am hoping for the best. I love the placement of the characters...and I looked through them all!

I have the Mickey Mouse Tonal Tote, got it as a gift from mu husband & I found, yes found, the Princess bucket bag for $30 at Plato's Closet. It was originally purchased back in July because whoever owned it was nice enough to include the receipt in the zippered section, not a single mark on it or in it.
Next one, the comic collection & Aulani would be nice

My DD purchased the crossbody bag from DisneyStore online before our trip last Sept. Three days into the trip, she noticed that the lining in the front pouch was ripped at the seam. We stopped in a shop in AK that had the exact bags handing being the counter. She explained that she had just purchased the bag and asked about an exchange. The CM was very difficult (I was surprised--she was almost rude) stating that she could not exchange because defective bags are often purchased at property control (cast member outlet) and that people then try to get a good one thru the stores. DD was able to retrieve the e-mail receipt from online showing that she had indeed purchased full-price and 2 weeks earlier. They did exchange it for her after that.

I will tell her to contact DB direct if she has any other problems.

Seems like a lot of the issues with the cruise DB bags are the red or blue leather handles....do they sell any with the regular tan handles? They are so cute and I totally want one, but I don't really like the color leather trims, I'd worry about the color bleeding on my clothes.

I buy D&B purses all the time. The real one's, not the Disney bags. I probably get at least one a year, usually as gift from my DH. I love them. They are beautifully made, high quality purses.

I also bought two of the Disney D&B purses from WDW. I struggled with buying the Disney bags because the quality isn't anywhere near the real leather D&B bags. The lining isn't nice, it looks really cheap and the purses aren't cheap in price. But, I was a sucker and bought it because I love Disney and I love Dooney.

I don't carry my D&B Disney purse anymore. I just sits in my closet. It just doesn't look that nice. I thought I would love having one, but I didn't.

I saw this thread last year and was going to comment, but didn't. I just had to say it.

The Disney Dooney and Burke bags are made the same, as far as I can see, as the DB bags sold with prints in stores. If you check on their website, the bags are coated canvas. The handles are suppose to be leather but if the colored handles are peeling, they too are a coated material. I have DB bag that has Scottish Terriers on it, when I bought my first DB Disney bag, I compared them and the quality was identical. I have been using my Balloon DB Disney bag, the large barrel bag with double handles and shoulder strap, for two winters. It still looks brand new. My daughter has been using her barrel Disney with the colorful Mickey's, looks like crayon Mickey's, for 2.5 years constantly and it looks just like it did the day she bought it. She has the large sketch tote and she has not mentioned any problems. I do know DB is suppose to stand behind their products and from reading the posts, they really do and that is good to know. Just because I have not had problems does not mean I won't in the future.

As for Coach bags, never again. If the bag is 100% real leather whether it is Coach or DB, the bag will wear will. The Coach fabric bags do not. I have bought two over the years and after one season they are shot. The corners on the bottoms get worn with holes! My leather Coach bags, perfect, the fabric with prints, not worth the money.

I will ask my daughter if she has inspected her bags for the peeling. This thread has had a lot of excellent info. Thanks to all. Kathy

I bought mine with the regular tan handles on the Wonder in May 2010. I use my Disney D&B all the time and have never had an issue with it. I have several D&B purses, and my Disney D&B gets the most use

My bag hasn't fared well, as the red is coming off of the handles. I can deal with it, though. Thankfully it is on the inside of the handles and isn't as noticeable. I love the placement of the characters as I said, so I did keep it!

I am sorry that you ladies are going through this, but I am glad to see that D&B are fixing most of the defective bags.

I did want to assure people that not all the bag are faulty. I bought the black large bag with different colored Mickey silhouette on it. I have had it for 2 1/2 years and carry most every day between Labor Day and Easter. It is in great shape. I also bought on of the Fantasy Bag last May and carried it all summer. I got the White one with blue handle. It still looks great.

But I will start keeping the receipt for any future one I buy and will register then online based on what I learned here.

Good luck everyone at getting your bags repaired, replaced or refunded.

I haven't had any problems yet with my Disney Dream Dooney handbag. It gets daily use since I bought it, and it still looks great. I usually carry a Coach bag. I realize the Dooney is a novelty bag and enjoy it as such. I also have the Scottish Terrier Dooney (because I have a Scottie) and it's made exactly like the Disney bag. I rotate my bags so none of them gets really heavy use.

I realise this is an old thread, but my DCL D&B has had the rivet which holds the strap to the bag shear off. The difficulty for me lies in the fact that I live in the UK, so sending it to D&B will cost me about $60 which will not be reimbursed, and it seems that the length of time it takes to repair means I will be bagless for the better part of 3 months - not what I expect from a bag that costs that much. Trying to ascertain if I can return it through Disney UK (which now sells D&B). Did contact DCL, but after 5 days I have had no response.

If they are going to sell these goods internationally, there really should be a cost effective mechanism for dealing with international problems!

My DCL purse is also peeling. The red,blue, handles and especially where the strap loops in the hook. I have the receipt and was hoping to have it taken care of on the ship.

I have read one unsuccessful post on this, any one else try to exchanged a defective purse on the ship?

I called it a charm because I didn't know what to call it but it is the thing on the leather loop. I don't really care about the strap since I wouldn't ever wear it with the shoulder strap anyways. I think I may try to get mine repaired/replaced if possible since I really love that bag.

I had the same issue on a non disney D&B the classic , which I get complimemts on even after 10 years, if you just need a tassle call D&B they will mail you one.

On a side note for you in Connecticut , I did see the disney bags at the D&B outlet in Clinton recently, they did not have alot and Coach was having a 70% off sale l so I ended up with two coach bags instead but they were there...

I have 2 red trim ones, one in hich te redtrim has come off, Bu nver have a problem with them bleeding on my clothes.

I saw this thread last year and was going to comment, but didn't. I just had to say it.

I never ever puchase purses that are more the $20, So i am in no way a "purse expert" and i bought the D& B Disney because ioved them and was on vacation. I carried my smaller size one for almost a year as my daily purse, Excpet for the red egde peeling it is still in great shape. Thelarger one i take t least once a week to my DDs cheer practice to carry my laptop in.

I too loved the placement of the ones on my bag, i took so much time picking them out i dont want a different one. I just peeled all the red off and it looks fine

I have a question about the Disney Cruise "sketch" bags. I've heard they have been discontinued. Maybe there are some left on the ships now....but I'm wondering what they will be/have been replaced with?

On another note, today I'm sending back a IT barrel bag that I've had for a few years, but haven't used in the last two due to extreme yellowing. Not sure what they will do with it at all, but anything is better than sitting on the top shelf of my closet unused, like it does now.

Just hoping that my cruise sketch purse doesn't yellow as well.

Anyone cruise recently that has any pics of any new purses? I'm thinking of ordering my 12 year old the minnie bow in the wristlet, or the mickey balloons in the mini-barrel. Thought it would be good for holding the wave phone, room card and her extra little items for our cruise in March. Her bday is on the cruise, so I would give it to her then.
