Decorating your hotel room door and/or window

Hi all! I was just wondering if any of you going to DLR have decorated or plan to decorate your hotel room door or window?

I know this practice is pretty popular at WDW. We did it back when we stayed at Coronado Springs. It was fun! We had a lime green sign on our door with our DIS names, some Mickey heads from Home Depot, and some other decorations, and lots of Halloween stuff in our window including a battery operated flickering candle.
One night a lady pushing a baby stroller came up to me and said using our window as a reference point was the only way she could find her way back to her room. :rotfl:

Thanks for posting these!! I love them. I hope that others have been able to do something like this at the HOJO cause now I really want to decorate our room. I hope somebody will post and let us know. :flower3:

Those pics are great! We haven't done this at DLR yet, but we plan to decorate our door at Hojo's during our Christmas trip in December.

Hi Beth, the only time I have seen this anywhere at DLR is when we did our Ladies' Only Trip in April. While it was fun, I don't think it's common practice in DLR like it is at WDW. But hey, if some of us Disers start doing it, maybe it'll catch on! So go ahead and be a trend setter!

Yeah, I heard about those big Mickey heads on the doors! Wish I'd been at the hotel to see them.

I think we should start doing it at DL too. I loved making plans to decorate the room we had at WDW. I know many DISers are at the parks at the same time so this would be another fun way to recognize each other at the hotels too.
Plus it's just fun to do for yourself and your family.

The thread I pulled those links from is over 100 pages long and packed with good info and pics if anyone wants more ideas. Including on how to decorate without damaging walls, windows, etc

We'll be at Disneyland in October and I'd love to do something with a Halloween theme.

You're welcome. I love looking at all the pics and there are many more in that thread, too many to link all of them. LOL
We'll be at HoJo too and I'm thinking I'd like to put something up. I know at WDW they don't have an issue with it as long as it's taken down and cleaned up afterwards. And that no paint or anything is damaged.

Great! Maybe those who are going soon, can take some pics of their decorations and post them here so we can see and get ideas. :yay:

And also let the rest of us know how well it goes over (or doesn't which hopefully isn't the case) with the hotels.

No real ideas yet.

I'm going to check around and see what I come up with. We already have a small tree (miniature size) for our room and I am making small Mickey Head ornaments for it. Any ideas for our door at Christmas time?

That's really cute! I like those.

I edited my first post to include more links and the fourth one down has some Christmas decoration in it. Looks like they used some of the red and darker green Mickey heads from Home Depot as part of their display.

Also you could try printing out some fun Christmas Disney themed DISgns from the DISign board here on the DIS.

I just remembered something from our last trip! :idea:

we decorated the room with Mickey stuff from a party store because we were celebrating my aunt's b-day. We had mickey table clothes covering the dresser as well as mickey hanging things from the ceiling b-day banners, and mickey confetti. HOJO's said they didn't mind if we decorated as long as everything was able to come down or vacuum up! :cool1:

I also remember our housekeeper asking if we could leave the decorations up and she would take them down, beause one if her children were having a b-day and would like them!!! :banana:

Thanks for posting this. We are staying at HOJO and I want to decorate the door with those removable wall stickers. I wondered if that would be okay and it sounds like it would be. Thanks again!

Thats so cute!!! I'll do it when we go in October! My favs are the ones with multi colored mickey heads all over the window with curly ribbon on the sides.

But I'm not going to put our names on anything...I'm cautious like that, but I dont think its a good idea.

Oh that sounds cool. And good to know they didn't mind. Also that was nice of you to pass on the decorations when you were done with them.

Yeah, some put up names and some don't. We had ours up when we were in WDW, but now I don't know. It looks just as cute without them though, so either way.
I might just make a comment like some of them did asking "Do you DIS?" or some mention of the DIS. We'll see.

So, if you wrote "do you DIS?" on one of your door decorations and someone wrote back on the same decoration "yes I do" would you be upset? LOL I just wondered that....I think this is the BEST idea!! I would so do this for our next trip....I'm going to start looking for window clings and I'll start picking up Mickey heads at Home Depot too!

We are going in December and will be there for DDs 1st Birthday. We are so in. Can't wait to show the other DDs and start planing. Guess where I headed. Yep, Home Depot. Mickey heads here we come. :lmao:
