I'm just wondering if we're allowed to decorate the exterior of our room doors at Animal Kingdom Lodge. Since the door is wood I plan on using scotch tape to adhere my goodies. Has anyone ever done this before at this resort. If so, do you have any pics you can share with me? Do you think they'll have a problem with it?

I wouldn't do it. I know that the Disney cruise line prohibits anything being taped to the doors...they're metal so you can use magnetic stuff, but tape left an awful mess. I would think that the resorts would feel the same way....tape leaves a residue and also takes off the paint.

Please don't use tape on the doors. We always have problems where I work with people sticking tape to their office or other area doors. Then when it's removed, you either get residue from the tape or the finish peels off.

what could I use on a wooden door. Are the interiors of the doors metal?? Could I use the sticky tack instead? Does anyone know if this is prohibited at AKL?

I have never seen any decorations on the doors at AKL. The doors already have a ceremonial "shield" from a tribe in Africa - they are NOT going to appreciate you sticking ANYTHING to the doors. It's one thing to do it in a value resort where the doors are weather-proofed and open to the outside, but I really don't think AKL is an appropriate place to stick things to the door.

AKL is a bit more upscale and personally would find it tacky to put decorations on the outside of the doors.

Waayeell dawgie! When Jed, Granny, Ellie May, Jethro and I stayed at AKL in 2007, we decorated out door.....yeehaw!!:lmao:

OP, I see no harm in decorating your door. I am thinking that the doors are wood, so as long as you don't do any damage..have fun! (maybe you could rig some strings or something over the door-I wouldn't really adhere anything, I would be afraid to. ) My boys loved looking for our wreath every time we came back to the room. I used an over the door hanger so no tape involved. Never EVER had anyone working there say a word about it.:snooty:

There was a thread awhile back about people decorating the doors and windows of their rooms. In some cases, Disney charged the guest a $25 cleaning charge because they left a mess that Disney had to deal with.

Perhaps you could design a door hanger (kind of like a Do Not Disturb sign) to hang over the door handle. That would not hurt anything and could still lend a personal touch.

I think the best bet for me is to call the lodge tomorrow. Perhaps I'll contact IPO first since we are club level guests. They should be able to point me in the right direction.

It has never occured to me that decorating your door is tacky and is something that people do only in value resorts. I have stayed in various deluxe resorts and have seen decorations on many doors. My family has always viewed it as "Adorable"! In fact; this is where my daughter got it in her head to create the ones she made. They are so cute and she worked very hard on them (Mickey heads with various quotations.). I'm just a bit concered about AKL's policies especially since they prohibit balloons and such to maintain animal safety. Perhaps one day I'll look into the value resorts. It's our goal to stay at each resort. Pop century gets rave reviews on this board. Maybe they'll be the first of the values for us.

If anyone has anymore pictures; keep them coming :).
Thank you for the various input!

Very sweet and creative idea your little girl had. Hopefully they will say it is ok. Certainly wouldn't call it "tacky--that was a bit rude!!!!" Hope you have great fun during your trip!

The doors at AKL are beautiful in their own right, there is no need to decorate them I can understand why some would find it tacky.

I do not think it is appropriate at a deluxe resort, Club Level. Other guests are paying to enjoy the ambience of the resort provided by the resort themeing. Personal decorations just don't seem to fit in this environment. Sorry you aren't hearing the responses you wanted, but you did ask.
Have a great trip.

Sounds like your daughter put a lot of thought and work into her creations. I hope you figure out a way to display them for all to see.
It is rude and tacky to make comments that it is only appropriate to decorate at Values. Don't worry about what others think, your family are the people whose opinions are important. It is your vacation enjoy & have fun!

PS OP only asked how to attach her decorations not if anyone thought it would be tacky.

:idea:How about using that 3M product which pulls off after you are done? Command ? Not sure of the name.

Sorry but it spoils the hotel ambience. Using the my child made it card only makes it more annoying. At AKL I want to see it the way Disney designed it.

Thank you to those who have actually answered my question. This isn't a matter of it looking tacky at a supposed "UPSCALE" resort. I'm not asking about appearances. You can plainly see that my question has to do with adorning the door. Not how you feel about it. My daughter took the time to make simple mickey heads with quotations on them. Which came very lovely. I really don't view attaching them to the door as gaudy. By no means are they loud. Again, I'm calling IPO today to see what they say. If the lodge tells me NO, then I'll come up with another plan that will hopefully bumper my daughters feelings. I'm thinking maybe she could then give them to outstanding cast members. I'll make a real big deal out of it. Hopefully I won't have to take that route.

People in this world really make me wonder...

I think it's wonderful you have an opinion. If you're annoyed by my posting; DON'T read it! The door that I'm paying for has nothing to do with ruining the the theming of Disney.

Worst case scenario:

You just arrive to Jambo house and you're basking in the atmosphere. Wow your room is ready and you're on your way . You make it to your corridor and begin walking. You're thinking, what a beautiful place. You're noticing all the different shields on each door. You feel the excitement of viewing your room well up in your stomach. All of a sudden you turn to your left and OMG there are mickey heads on a door. This can't be. This is a DELUXE RESORT. It's so hideous. You almost faint because your so appauled.

Give me a break...:rotfl2:

My mom used the Command stuff in her office, and when she took it off the wall, it left no residue or 'oily' marks on the wall that the "sticky tack" stuff can do. the only thing about the command is that it's a "hook" so you would probably need to add a "hanger" out of ribbon to your daughter's Micky heads so it could just be put over the hook and take it off after wards. would probably be more convenient then an over the door hanger. I have them on my doors for coats, and they do eventually damage the wood, so an over the door hanger you might want to avoid. otherwise, I think tape would be something to avoid, it has residue left behind as well
(as to the other part that seems to permeate the thread, not going there, only answering the original question.)

Please don't put tape on the wooden doors. It will take the paint off, or leave residue.

I'm totally digging your idea. I can cascade them down. Thank you so much for staying on point. Much appreciated.
