Deck 2 porthole or deck 7 inside?

We just came back from the Magic, and fell in love with the whole process! We are looking at another cruise, but we are torn. We had an inside (category 11) cabin midship on deck 7. We loved the location, but I also like the ide of being able to see outside from our cabin. Alas, money IS an object!

I'm not so sure about deck 2 - it seems so far removed from the upper decks, and I just don't have the patience to wait for elevators.

So, what would you all recommend? Location on deck 7 but no porthole (cat. 10), or porthole on deck 2 (cat. 9)?

DW and I had cabin 2098 on the Wonder on 11/28/04 4 day. We never felt like it was an issue to get to any of the events, or to dining. You are only one floor below the restaurants, so the steps were always very easy. We never had an issue with elevators, either.

I know about money. DW and I have to cut corners to be able to do our next cruise, but we have booked a cat 9 again. The natural light and being able to watch the waves and the water from the sofa were awesome. Just my 2 cents worth!

If you're planning far enough ahead, you may be able to get one of the six cat 10 rooms with the obstructed porthole view on deck 5, sort of a compromise between deck 7 and deck 2. Do a search on "secret porthole rooms" if you are not familiar with them.

What is the price difference between the Cat 9 on Deck 2 and the Cat 8 on another deck?

Stick with the cat 11 inside...deck 7

We had one of those for the 2 week repo and it was Fine...

I would either try to get a secret porthole room or do the inside room.

Rebecca,

We love being on deck 2. In fact, for all but one cruise, we've stuck with deck 2...either choosing an inside deluxe or an outside deluxe. For me, the best part about being on deck 2 is the built in diet. If you skip the elevators and take the stairs, you're getting your workout. I've not gained any weight on the last several cruises. For my husband, the best part about being on deck 2 is being close to the exits when you get into port.

Hope that whatever you decide you have a great trip!

Depends on where you are on deck 2! We were under the kitchen which was LOUD! I have heard that under the nightclubs can be loud as well. Of course, I did like the stairs for getting to where I needed to and getting my work out at the same time.

I would also recommend the secret portholes on deck 5 if you can get them!

Maybe a cat 8 on deck 7 to compromise?

We've been in cat 10 & 11 on deck 6 and cat 9 on deck. The next cruise will be in cat 9 on deck 2. We were under the excursion desk and had no problem sleeping. Deck 2 is not too far from anything. Use the forward or aft elevators. My 70 year old parents had no problems being on deck 2. Just being able to wake up to sunshine is worth the difference between cat 10 and 9. IMHO

We just had 2068 and it was great! Very quiet but close to elevators and laundry room. I loved it. If you go a little farther aft, you would rarely wait for an elevator because they are less used. Being right below deck 3 with the restaurants, atrium, nightclubs, etc, was very convenient.

We just booked our 3rd cruise and are going for Deck 2 Cat 9 again. We had hoped to get more to the middle of the ship but as it was got the last available cabin (2054) for the Jan 28, 06 cruise.

We love being on Deck 2 with the larger porthole views. I'm hoping that maybe a cabin becomes available that is more to the middle but my DH said he was just glad to know he was getting on the ship! :cool1:

We have debated about upgrading but have to think of the money.

This is so interesting to read. I love to hear everyones opinions. I honest do. I have thought at times in order to go on any cruise we might have to go on a lower Cat. We normally go on Cat 6 when we have the kids. But have been considering do 2 rooms in a lower Cat in order to cruise a 7 day and still give us room and the much needed privacy we need.

We have stayed on deck 2 twice and both times loved it. But on our last cruise we stayed on deck 5, category 11. When we were rebooking for next February we were going to rebook on Deck 2 to get the deluxe room, but when we went down to check out the cabin we heard a constant "humming" from the engines that we had never noticed before. Since we had been on that deck the previous two times... we just assumed that was the "normal" sound of the ship.. . once we realized it was quieter up higher, we rebooked deck 5.

We sailed in CAT 9, deck two and LOVED it. We were a bit nervous because our cabins are almost always on deck 7 verandahs but we actually ended up liking the deck 2 location much more.
