Just as I was happily cruising along enjoying My DVC and considering buying more points or looking at other timeshares someone had to complicate life. They need to sell their winter villa in a retirement community in Florida and asked if I would like to buy it. Fair price and nice community. Built by US Homes.

All opinions would be appreciated.

Hmmmm. If you could swing it to be a FL resident more than 1/2 of the year, you could have the best of all worlds. DVC membership & Resident discounts. Unfortunately, there'd be no "trash and tidy" at the retirement residence.

Good luck with your decision!

Do you want to be committed to one place or do you want more flexibility to visit many places? Are the ongoing financial and time investments of home ownership okay with you? A home purchase could be a better "investment" but does probably mean a different style of enjoyment. Only you can decide which will make you most happy.

Do you have an interest in retiring to Florida? If so, then buying real estate now locks you in. If it's in a good area you are likely to get sufficient value to be able to relocate later. You may also be able to rent it to eliminate or at least mitigate the carrying costs.

So in my view, can you afford the investment and what is your long term interest in living in Florida?
