TUESDAY TOPIC:

Yes, it is the season... the season where the pace of hopping from holiday-to-holiday speeds up but the cycle of the year tells us it is time to slow down, cuddle and hibernate.

How do you find a healthy balance between doing-all-the-things and finding time to rest?

How do you maintain healthy eating when surrounded by seasonal treats and temptations?

Hello everyone!!!

I can take the week of the 16th!!

So sorry I am late signing up for a week in December!!

Now that the kids are older I do find downtime in the evenings…even if it’s 30 minutes at the end of the day to catch up on personal emails. When the kids were little I felt like I had 0 rest-ever. Healthy eating around the Holidays…well…I try to balance treats and fun with days of healthy eating!

Our thanksgiving and long weekend was great, not rushed and enjoyable! Our new tree farm was better than we could have ever imagined and we cannot wait to go back!

I covered for 2 people at work yesterday so I was slammed. Although my program is out of funding, my team mates program is SO BUSY so I helped him all day today which was good, day went super fast but not crazy busy like Monday was!

I hope everyone has a great Tuesday!

Woohoo... I did the Zoom call on moving to France yesterday and it was really good and made it seem attainable, basically France wants to know you aren't going to be living off of the government, so you need to prove at least $21,000 annual income and have an address. On a regular passport you can be there for 90 days, so that would be the starting point to check things out before applying for the 12-month visa.

And a woohoo for the lovely winter weather we've been having with a string of crisp sunny days.

I've been thinking about that contradiction lately myself. Everyone in my house has had a cold recently (probably from Thanksgiving) and the random thought my odd brain had in the shower yesterday was wondering if Australians are healthier than we in the US are because the holiday season is in their summer?

As for balance, I do indulge in sweets during the holidays but try to watch portion sizes.

Wow! I thought you were just moving to another town. That sounds like quite an adventure!

Same here - I love crisp sunny days better than hot ones!

Moving internationally is a post-retirement goal, so still a couple years away. But part of prepping for the move to Bainbridge next year is downsizing in anticipation of doing a big move later.

Hi everyone. It has been a long rough week here. Thanksgiving was great. We went to DH's mom and then to my mom's. This is the first time I have seen my sister since DD got sick and other stuff that happened with my sister over the summer. We are not on great terms right now but everything went great. We have gotten our tree up but it has not been decorated yet and that has been it. DD wanted to help but she was not home Friday and Saturday. We were going to do it Sunday but that is when things went down hill here.

On Sunday we couldn't get a hold of Jeff's grandmother so we went to check on her. She had fallen and looks like she fell on Friday. She has been in the hospital since. She has a small pulmonary embolism, muscle break down (from being on the ground for so long) and she broke her L1 vertebra. We did just get word that she is being discharged to a rehab facility today. She has a long road ahead of her. We have talked to her that she will need to work hard at PT to regain her strength to be able to go back to her apartment (this is what she wants to do) but with her track record with refusing to do PT we don't see that this will happen. It has been a very emotional week.

I did start Jazzercise and I really like it. I missed last night with being at the hospital but I am going to keep up on Saturday's at least and add more days during the week as I can.

ohhhh nooooo I am so sorry!!!! Caring for our loved ones as they age is so difficult

@Oneanne what an exciting goal!! Moving to another country, what a great experience!!

DD got ill Monday night-extreme nausea followed by a sore throat and congestion. Yesterday was bad but today is better to whoooohoooo for her!!

I got it too, but generally I get less sick than others, so my symptoms were very mild. Doubled up on vitamins yesterday and today and got more water in and that seems to be doing the trick.

It’s so cold here!!! Dreading going out in this weather to Awana tonight but I will be fine when I get there!

THANKFUL THURSDAY (posting early so I don't forget after Pilates)

For today's thankfuls, how about we each write three thank you notes to ourselves.

Example: Dear Lizanne.... thank you for washing the dishes.

Dh's grandmother was discharged yesterday from the hospital to a rehab place. Today starts her hard work. Our understanding is that she has 20 days to show improvement before insurance will stop paying.

Dear Stephanie -- Thank you for taking time to care for yourself in this rough period.
Dear Stephanie -- Thank you for being such an advocate for DD and DH's grandmother. Looking for answers asking questions doing research and lots more.
I don't have a third yet. I will try and come back with that one.

I have decided to take PTO today. I am working for about another hour and then taking the rest of the day. I am just tired and not up for it so a day will do me wonders. This afternoon I do need to take DD to 2 appointments but they are at the same place and back to back. Today is the day that we will get more info on the low antibodies she has. I do know as much as her T-cells are abnormal from the blood work they have done but I don't know what that means yet. It looks like her other blood tests were normal but we will know for sure. Her other appointment with with Pulmonology so hopefully we can get some more answers on why she still coughs so much.

We are getting snow today. Thankfully nothing like the east side. I have a coworker that has about 60 inches of snow and will be getting more today through early tomorrow. She is only maybe an hour to an hour and a half away from me. Right now we have about a 1/2 inch here but we are on the boarder of getting 1-3- or 3-6 inches mainly between 10-3 and that is when I will be out driving for DD's appointments. I am not looking forward to it. We also have 40 mph winds on top temps in the 20's. So the wind chill puts us in the single digits. Thankfully Monday and Tuesday it looks like it will be in the 50's but that will cause its own set of issues for the east side with rapid melting that will cause flooding.

Dear Lizanne.... thank you for finally remembering to call for a propane delivery so that the stove can be used to warm up the house.

Dear Lizanne... thank you for going to Pilates, both for the exercise and the comradery.

Dear Lizanne... thank you for being curious and for continuing to use your brain to explore new ideas and learn new things.

Dear Shannon thank you for taking the step to begin working with a mentor at work to explore another skill of interest

Dear Shannon thank you for starting to take dance classes again and see where the return to that activity brings you

Dear Shannon thank you for making adjustments to get the kids to their activities AND making them take some ownership of obtaining information about them before you confirmed you made said adjustments

Dear Danielle…thank you for cooking 90% of you and your family food…even when it’s the last thing on earth you want to do.

Dear Danielle- thank you for the patience and flexibility you have learned over the years of being an adult. It’s been a long road but your getting there.

Dear Danielle- thank you for getting 30 minutes of movement in everyday, even when you don’t feel like it! It’s good for your mind and body!

It has gotten cold enough that I have to use the propane stove to keep the house warm. So yesterday I swapped the furniture around, putting the living room back in the living room where the stove is because it will be the warmest... always a good exercise because it means cleaning behind and under everything. It was nice and cozy watching TV last night.

We're going to a cabin for a couple days before Christmas, and I'm going to take some cookies and treats to snack on while we're there. I want to try some new things, like Orange Cardamom Shortbreads and Mango Tajin Thumbprints, so I'm going to do some trial baking this weekend. Other than that, there's holiday stuff going on in town, like the tree lighting tomorrow.

Today has been a rough day. DD had her appointments with the immunologist and pulmonologist yesterday. We are starting her on antibody replacement therapy plus we need to see the Rheumatoid doctor and a GI doctor. First step is getting the therapy approved through insurance. DH always gets up in arms when money is involved. He wants to know how much this will cost and won't listen to what I am telling him. I have great insurance and I was told this morning that insurance will cover 100% after my deductible/out of pocket is hit (they are the same). So even telling him this he is flipping out. There is no need to flip out as my deductible is not really that high and is very reasonable. I think with this and the stress with his grandmother he is just lashing out a bit so I am giving him some space.

His grandmother is not doing great and I think we are looking at the end. She isn't really eating and is having issues swallowing. She is also not really holding herself up at all (not really unexpected with the broken vertebrae but she is not trying either). It has been a rough week for everyone and we all just need to give each other a bit of grace as we move through the next few weeks. We always do Christmas eve here for DH's family and he has already said he doesn't want to do it. I am not giving up on it yet and will give him time to figure out what he wants to do. We have been in this spot before when his step dad's mom passed away very unexpectedly about a week before Christmas 12 years ago (DD was in Kindergarten). We still did everything then but it wasn't the same and was very somber. I think he doesn't want to do that again.

As for this weekend, we are going to visit his grandmother and I am going to hang out with a group of friends and watch Christmas movies. It will be a great distraction for me.
