December WISH Thread: 'tis the season... for healthy living

Hellooooo everyone!!!

DH and I got a wild hair and decided to go to Epcot festival of the holidays on Sunday!! Super duper cheap flights (if Spirit airlines goes out of business I don’t know what I will do) and a great pass holder room rate at all star music made us pull the trigger at the last minute without hesitation!!

DD did not want to travel on such short notice so she didn’t come with us (she regretted it!!!!)

We left Sunday on a noon flight and returned last night on a 930pm flight. We went to Disney springs Sunday and had amazing appetizers and cocktails at Summer House on the lake and scored a last minute dinner reservation at Morimoto Asia-both were absolutely delicious and highly recommend!

Yesterday morning I was awake bright and early and I decided to catch the bus to MK for the extra half hour to see the Christmas decorations. I drank a Shakin Jamaican, strolled through MK and took it all in. I rode Haunted mansion as it was a walk on at 9am and my favorite ride, then got a order of cheeseburger spring rolls and sat at a empty Casey’s corner, looking at the castle and having my unusual (but delicious) breakfast. Absolute bliss!!

DH did have to attend a work meeting and make several calls, so we sat by the pool enjoying the sun while he took care of all of that.

Then headed to to Epcot! We stored our backpacks in the lockers and started going around to all the festival booths. Started in mexico and made it to France before throwing in the towel. Everything we had was so so so good!!

Lined up at 430 for candlelight processional and got in for the 5pm showing. Did not care for the narrator however music and singing were amazing!!

Was in the Uber at 7pm and sitting at the Mexican restaurant by our gate at 745! Regular security was 4 MINUTES at MCO last night. DH beat me and I have precheck lol!!! I get precheck free though my job and honestly if I paid for it I would be upset. I can’t say that recently it saves me any time vs my travel companions who do not have precheck. Maybe 5-10 minutes but that’s the most. Normally it’s the same exact time.

Sorry so mini trip report but goodness we had the BEST time!!

Motivation this week is to get off all this bloat and weight from our weekend free for all LOL!
Amazing! So happy this worked out for you. I'm going to have to cancel my March trip to WDW as work stuff has shifted. I'll be able to take time later in April/early May and have been trying to get my head around going to France instead. I didn't want a big international trip in 2025, but I really need to get to France to confirm I like enough to keep thinking about moving there.

I know it’s always so disappointing to cancel or reschedule a trip but it always works out for the best! And if you’re thinking of making that big move you should most definitely visit!!!

My grievances are pretty simple but the one I feel the need the most to share…perfume commercials. What is it about the fragrance commercials that come out at Christmas time? They are so weird and just make no sense and it irks me to no end. And trust me a celebrity is not going to make me spend an ridiculous amount of money on perfume

What irks me is the extra traffic on the roads from shoppers. Driving home at 4:14PM in the dark and being caught in traffic is so frustrating.
The extra germs because people are stuck inside during a time when I really don’t want to get sick…it’s so sad to be sick during the holidays. My coworker spent the last few days with a horrible stomach virus from a student.

I just want to survive the next two weeks and make it to Christmas in one piece.

I am woohooing that DH's grandmother is doing better. We visited last night and she is finally starting to hold herself upright and try to adjust herself in bed. For the last week and a half she hasn't done this. She just slumps to the side. Her speech is also back to normal (she was slurring a lot when she talked since the fall). So all good things. She is still not eating much at all. Last night for dinner she ate maybe 3 small bites of a salad. It would be equivalent to like 1 normal bite and then maybe 3 bits of apple pie. She says she is not hungry but she is also having a hard time swallowing. She says this started since the fall but we think it has been going on for a little bit and she didn't want to tell us. She doesn't want to acknowledge anything that will make her seem old or that might take her independence way. Because of this it has hindered her even more because she refuses the help, like PT or speech for the swallowing, that would have kept her independant.

Plus one to this!

Woohoo... to having a warm house. Such a revelation.

Woohoo... to Christmas almost being here. I'm off from work starting Thursday of next week and really looking forward to doing the cabin thing then having some quiet winter days at home.

Woohoo... I'm not a Hallmark Christmas movie gal, but I have watched a lot of the Netflix holiday movies and one thing that struck me as that in all of them, the main characters were having some very meaningful conversations during the falling-in-love sequences which was just so nice to watch.

Boogers boogers are everywhere
on their hands and in the air.
Why don't they cover their mouths when they sneeze
or wash their hands more effectively?
Why must they
share germs so generously?

A poem by me, under the influence of cold medication.

These little stinkers got me sick again…2nd time in 3 weeks. Their parents send them to school with runny noses, vomiting and diarrhea like it’s no big deal, and then refuse to pick them up until the end of the day. Many times they won’t keep them home when the nurse excludes them. Then they don’t answer the phone.

By the grace of God, I have another cold. My colleague got the stomach virus after her students had it and their parents couldn’t leave work to pick them up. The nurse refuses to let them stay in her office…all of these never used beds available. Fortunately she’s retiring this year. Anyway, I know that it could be so much worse. So as funny as this sounds, I am thankful for my cold…lol.

I am thankful that I made the drive to work. Roads were super icy this morning and there were accidents everywhere. I went about 20-25 mph on the highway to work. Once off of the high I did fishtail at a stop sign and I think the pickup truck behind me did too. Thankfully we didn't hit each other. It was definitely a white knuckle kind of drive.

I am thankful that all the gifts are wrapped... it took all evening yesterday. I don't remember doing much very much shopping but there are a lot of things in each gift bag. A lot. I do "need" to pick up one or two more things for my NIL tho, as his bag is less full than the others.

And I'm thankful for an adjustment in thinking I had yesterday. I realized I wasn't trusting some people to do their jobs because they weren't doing them the way I thought they should be done. There are things I'm accountable for (make sure they get done) vs responsible for (how they get done) and I was sitting in the responsible seat. So, I'm making some mental adjustments today and things should start going much smother. For me at least.

Today we have an appointment with the rehab place DH's grandmother is at. At this appointment we will get the information and recommendation of what will happen going forward. We know she won't be ready to go home by Dec 20th and I am really hoping we can keep her where she is at now and that Dh's mom doesn't try to move by her that is over an hour away since we would be able to help at all and once January hits and his mom has surgery we won't see or hear from them in months. Neither will his grandmother. So I am just hoping everything works out for the best for his grandmother.

Other then that going on there isn't much. I will start my cookie baking this weekend and hopefully get everything wrapped and be all ready for Christmas.

I am so grateful for online shopping. Being stuck at home because I am sick would make it so hard for me to prepare for Christmas if it weren’t for online shopping. As it is, I am still waiting for the Christmas cards I ordered from Zazzle on Black Friday. They are cutting it close. I would love to do them this weekend and mail them on Monday, but at this rate, I wonder if they will arrive on time. I will get wrapping done at least. It’s too soon to start the Christmas cookie baking. So, hopefully the cards will arrive soon.

There’s a terrible stomach virus going around the school. I hope I can avoid it being home sick with my cold. Next week is full of fun activities every day. I want to be well enough to enjoy them.

Sunday at church will be special with lessons and carols in the morning and the live nativity at night. DH has to work Sunday, but if I feel better, I would like to attend both.

There's a storm blowing outside this morning, and one blowing inside my head as well. I could barely lift my head off of the pillow, so I guess good thing I work from home?

The plan for the weekend is to go to a craft fair tomorrow in the morning then stop by the museum for music and grab some lunch in town. Hopefully this headache isn't a harbinger of something else coming on. Sunday I'll start cookie baking, as well.

Worked a half day today and taking the DSs to a holiday party at one of the schools. Tomorrow is wreaths across America and Sunday DS12 and I are seeing Hamilton.
Made sugar cookies today and it was the first time in all my years of baking that I had a roll/cut out shape dough come together! I used a combo of lemon and cake batter extract in stead of regular vanilla and the cookies retained their shape yay! So they are now tucked in the freezer until next weekend when we’ll decorate them. Hopefully after the wreaths tomorrow I’ll be able to make meat pies assuming I’m not frozen.

Hello hello hello and Happy Friday!!!!!

Whooohoooo Wednesday-Awana is over for the year and our Happy Birthday Jesus party went great! Kids had a great time and are so excited to celebrate Christmas!!

Thankful that I work from home-especially this week. Not sure if I ever shared this, but I work from home on a medical accommodation for migraines, generally they are triggered by artificial light exposure (2-3 hours is normally my limit), noise that I cannot escape or control and driving at in the dark. I have been battling a migraine since Monday night, when we returned from Disney. It was the lights in the restaurant in the airport that did it-I felt the “electric shocks” starting while I was sitting there…once I feel them it’s too late. The nausea has been extreme, despite taking my zofran, but that finally let up yesterday. I have taken my rescue meds every 24 hours, taking Advil every 8 hours and keeping ice on my eye and temple. I say all this to say-I could have never managed this week in an office setting. I would have been in sick leave all week. I slept on every lunch break this week just to make it through the afternoon. Things are turning around today, but it has been the worst week for me in a while.

Sorry that was a long winded thankful lol.

Weekend today started with babysitting my granddaughter and my niece. Girl party every Friday 🎀. Tomorrow we will walk dogs then in the afternoon my MIL and I are getting last minute Christmas stuff and going to a late lunch. Sunday DD wants to go to a reptile show to get some things so DH and I are going to go with her and her boyfriend.

Eagles play Sunday afternoon!! Go Birds 🦅 💚🦅💚🦅💚🦅💚🦅💚🦅💚🦅💚
