December 11, 2004 Eastern cruise thread

Exciting, less then a week left now officially!

It was chilly today, for Florida standards at least. Makes the warmth of St. Thomas even more appealing!

I am so excited to hear about the new approved fireworks for Pirate's night. There is so much "new" stuff for the cruise this year!

hope everyone is having a great weekend! :flower1:

disneygatorfan-Yes,less than week from now we will be onboad the ship.It will be great to see some fireworks during the Pirate Show.Yes,it has been chilly this weekend. We have had our heat on since Friday. They are saying Gainesville will be having the coldest winter this year is has ever had.We have a new football coach which is great.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

ann southworth-Your dh is sounds like mine.He is like you aren't overpacking this time around. It must be a man thing as it is too funny that my hubby says the same thing<G>.I look at it is being prepared too.My question is how cool are the evenings onboard the ship?I plan on taking a poncho as well as sweatshirt.I am wondering if that will be enough as far as warm clothes go.I don't want to freeze<VBG>.

Maria
Glad to know I have company out there. I have always found the evenings pleasant on the ships, however, the evenings "inside" of the ship are very cool. The ships always run their air conditioners and particularly at dinner I always take a sweater. Depending on the weather it seems like the upper/outside decks are usually windy more than anything. Taking a swaetshirt is a good plan. Better to be prepared.......  Are you travelling with young ones? Ours are 5(girl) and 7(boy). Both are super excited.

ann southworth-We have never sailed at this time of the year as the only times we have sailed have been May and September,so I wasn't sure how cool it will be especially when we are outside.I will make sure to pack a sweatshirt..It is just dh and I as we don't have any children.I am sure your children are very excited!

Have a great Sunday everyone!

Maria

I did this same cruise last year around this time, and at Port Canevaral the first night it was very cool, especially at the deck party, but I believe a cold front had moved thru.. hear it will probably be the same this weekend too. But once we were out at sea, it was warm. The ship is always cool though.

It was also cold the morning we got back, and unfortunately I had adjusted to the warm weather at sea, and packed away my sweatshirt, so I was freezing waiting under the tent for my transportation!

I just printed up "business cards" for my kids to pass out to their new friends from the Oceaneer's Lab. They will come in handy when they want to exchange addresses on the last night. I thought it would be neat to put their picture on it, to help their new friends keep everyone straight, but then we decided it wouldn't be the best idea to have cards with these (incredibly cute, of course!) boys pictures and their addresses and phone numbers floating around! Too bad, though, they were so cool looking!

Hi everyone,

Hope you all are hanging in there with less than a week to go.

Has anyone ever seen Speed2? I saw it for the first time last night...not good one week before a cruise. HA HA LOL. I have a point here..the cruise ship crashes into an island..anyone have any idea of which one....

You guessed it St. Martin. I thought that was SO funny. I saw the sign for St. Martin right before the ship crashed in the movie. I had to tell my mom first thing this morning..I watched it at midnight..so she was sleeping. I had never seen that movie before....

Hope everyone can cope with the excitement this week...Remember just one min at a time and maybe we can contain the excitement just enough to get through til SAT.

Jen

Jen-I won't be watching Speed 2 this week.No thanks<G>!I have never seen it,and I think I will wait till after the cruise.

I am hanging in there.I am getting stuff done slowly, but surely it is getting done. There is too much excitement in the air!

I'm about ready. Bought a few new shirts last night and am looking for a new pair of tennis shoes. I usually don't buy this sort of stuff even when I need it, but trips are usually the impetus for my wife to drag me to the store.

I've been worried about more important things - like looking for new photo gear. :) I want to take some panoramas on this cruise - especially at St Thomas.

Any other shutter bugs on this cruise other than me?

Disneyfan37--I know I won't watch it again before we leave. Not that that can happen. You know what I mean. That's like I ended up both times..this cruise and that watching Titantic exactly three months before we left and will leave. Strange. It just happened to be on TV and I started to watch.

I hope everyone is doing well. I can't believe that we will be flying to MCO in five days. It is a little scary to think about. I just keep thinking do we have everything that we need is there anything else that we should get? We are bringing a mesh laundry bad to put our dirty clothes in. Anyone else doing that? I think that we will be a little more organized, this way we can hang it on our door.

Is there anything that anyone is bringing that is out of the oridinary that they think is necessary? Maybe if you mention it then it will get me thinking of other things that we should bring! I mean certain things we are not going to be able to buy on the ship if we forget them or need them.

MBUCKLES--hang in there only five more days til the big SUPRISE!!! YEAH!!!

Talk to everyone later.

Jen

Jen-I have seen the Titantic once, and I don't care to see it this week again<G>.5 more days!Lets hope they go by fast!Hope you and everyone else on here have a great flight to MCO.

Something that I will be packing that has helped us on both Disney Wonder cruises is ziploc bags.I have found that if I put ice in the bags, and put the bags full of ice in the refrigerator the refrigerator actually stays cooler.I learned that from someone on the board, and it definitely does work.

Everyone have a great Sunday evening!

Hey Sam... (Or anyone who might have the info)... I'm still debating on "To Laptop Or Not To Laptop", that is the question. I've read posts in some other forums about taking their for picture download to free up memory cards, etc. There are also some other benefits like watching DVD's, etc.

The one issue that could push me over the edge is if there is Wi-Fi access anywhere on the ship. Does anyone know if there is?

Shutters can obviously take photos off a memory card and put on CD for you (for a fee), but if there's Wi-Fi access, that will probably pretty much push me over the edge and travel with it for sure.

I'm taking mine but only because I'll take far more photos that I have space for on my memory cards. I carry 3 gigs worth of CF cards but my camera chews up 10 meg per picture. On my last cruise, I took over 2,000 photos! But that was mostly due to practicing and learning.

Another good reason to carry a laptop - Shutters will make prints from digital memory cards and they are reasonably priced considering it's an onboard service. I will take photos of my dinnermates (if they don't mind), post-process them on my laptop in Photoshop, then have prints made in Shutters. and I'll extend the same offer to my disboard friends as well. :)

There is no onboard, public WiFi access as far as I know.

The family pics you took are very high quality. I could tell that by working with them. It was a pleasure doing so. I have a Canon PowerShot S45 that I use. I'm eating up 5.5 Meg per pic which is good enough for our use. I am only using a 256k Card though, so if I want to shoot any moving video, I'm sure I'll want to get the data off the card ASAP. So, laptop it is! I will probably also stop by Best Buy and grab another card before the trip. Come to think of it, I may already have one in my toybox. Thanks for the info!

There really should be WiFi access onboard. Can someone point the way to the suggestion box on-board? lol

Greetings Again! Just wanted to give everyone ample opportunity to get in on the final version of the photo collage. I'll be doing the final edit adjustments tomorrow morning (12/7/04), so if you want in, there's still time. It turned out pretty well and I've had positive feedback from all of you. I'll probably need to shift gears tomorrow morning on some other things. If there is a new version, I'll post it and let you guys know so you can print it out, etc.

Everyone must be working hard today. This thread is slow. :)

I have been asked by one of your fellow cruisers to try and capture some shots of the Magic this Saturday on the Port Cam and Two Palms Cam. Well, if all goes well, I might be catching some "LIVE" shots of the Magic as she sails out of port on Saturday. My mom just bought herself a new car and decided to drive up here (NJ) for the Holidays instead of flying. Since I don't want her traveling from Florida to NJ alone, I will be flying down to Florida either Friday evening or Saturday morning. If I fly in Saturday, we will leave the airport and head over to the port area to watch the Magic leave. Any photos that I take on Saturday, I will post here next week. Here's wishing you all a MAGICal cruise!!! :D

THAT's an understatement! I've read your plan!

Honestly, the collage is super. I'm gonna make it a part of my scrapbook pages.
