Dec 5, 2009 -- now traveling to Tortola

I just booked our first ever Disney Cruise without telling my DH:rolleyes1. It seems there are very few rooms left and I really wanted to try the Disney Cruise line. We have been on other cruises before so excited to see the difference.

Now for a BIG question. My DH and I do not have any children. Will there be a lot of things for us to do?

We are also arriving in Disney on Dec 4th and going back to Disney after the cruise for a few days. How does anyone handle transfers to and from Disney and what is the prices?

Can't wait to get onboard:cool1:

Welcome Deebits! It's going to be a great time!

don't worry about whether you have kids or not. There are several on this cruise who either don't have kids or are on purposely leaving them home while they have all the fun!:woohoo:

(We're bringing our 3 kids though)

Hang around the board a bit, read all the postings, get to know some of the posters and join in the fun pre-cruise online!

Can you tell me who I need to call to get the transfers? Thank you for the info. This will really help us.

I believe you can call DCL directly to do this - I had our TA do it. DCL's number is (800) 951-3532. You can also use Magical Express to get from the airport to the AK and from BC to the airport after your trip (free).

Thank you Very Much for this information. We were planning to go to Disney from Dec 4th- 14th and going back and forth about the cruise. Yesterday I finally decided we need to do this and booked. I was going to surprise my DH when we got to Disney and say don't unpack we are crusing tomorrow, but I couldn't keep it a secret. As soon as he got home I splurred it all out.

We are sooooo excited and from reading the posts, it looks like this will be a lot of fun:banana::cool1::woohoo::yay:

Just got off the phone w/ AAA, WE ARE BOOKED FOR OUR FIRST EVER DISNEY CRUISE:woohoo::dance3::love::cool1:

Not to many Cat9 rooms left so we are all the way at the bottom in 1042. Please tell me this won't be so bad!!!!

I switched rooms and now we are in 6526!!!!! Cat8. I am sooooo excited I can't wait.

What will the weather be like in December?

Hi All!

We finally decided to bite the bullet and go on our booked cruise. We originally booked our return cruise when we did our 1st Disney cruise in November 2005 (7 night Western) and have moved it out several times while waiting for the right time to return. Last year, we activated our WDW annual passes and visited 3 times so have gotten our WDW fix (we've been over 30 times now). Don't want to wait till DD (9) ages out of the kid clubs.

Our group includes, myself, Fluvanna (41), former chemist, and now a homeschooling mom and bookkeeper for my husband's business, hobbies are scrapbooking and all things Disney!

my husband Jerry (48 at cruise), computer programmer, fellow Disney lover (we honeymooned there 20 years ago), is slowly backing out of his World of Warcraft addiction, favorite thing to do on vacation is sleep, read, and eat (not sure of order there) and anything Disney!

my daughter Jessica (9 1/2 at cruise time), loves Disney (how could she not given her parents?) but will no longer wear princesses or fairies only Hannah Montana. She will be starting 4th grade in the fall, loves history and science and animals. She would love to correspond with other kids around her age going on this cruise - she is nervous about not knowing anyone (last time, her cousins were along).

That's about it....um, we are booked in a Cat 12 gty right now and have late seating. Looking forward to trying out the Dine and Dash. Our favorite Disney resort is Wilderness Lodge, not sure when we will drive down for the cruise and where we will be staying.

Fluvanna

Welcome Fluvana & Family! going to be awesome guys! (Never been on one before, but after talking with everybody here for over a year, I'm super excited too!)

If Jessica wants to get to know some of the other kids, NHDisneylover (Hadley) has started a kids thread for her daughter Marika and other kids going on this cruise. Here's the link. Have Jessica pop in there and say hello! (Just remember this is a public board and you never really know who is reading these threads so always use discretion, never give your cabin number/phone number etc. unless it's in a private email to someone you truly trust)

I hope it's not too soon since the last and I hope no one minds that I've stepped in to ask it but one popped to mind.

Do you plan to dress up for formal and semi-formal nights and what do you plan to dress in?

I'm just curious because I read that a lot of people dress up on the 7 nights and also that a lot of people don't. Some say on formal night you'll be out of place if you wear gown or tux and some say you'll be out of place if you don't. Anyway...

Formal
DH - we plan on buying DH a tux. He'll also wear for Palo
Me - I bought a beautiful garnet colored long gown
DD10 - holiday type dress
DD3 - we'll get him a tux too

Semi-formal
DH - suit
Me - below knee cocktail type dress
DD10 - trendy knee length dress
DD3 - suit

We do NOT plan on dressing up quite that formal. I wouldn't spend the money to get a tux unless DH has other places to wear it at home. Even then I wouldn't want to have to pack it for a cruise.

DH will bring his suit and I'll bring a nice holiday dress. That will work for formal, semi-formal and Palo for us.

Gee, I just thought we'd be wearing our bathing suits all week! Less laundry when we get back! :laundy:

That being said,
I'll be bringing a blazer with tie rather than a full suit. I dress up enough for work.
Christine will bring one, formal/semi-formal dress along and the rest will be casual wear.
The 2 boys (8 & 3) will have shirts with ties and nice pants
Holly (6) will try to bring as many dresses as she can (and grandma will probably spoil her with more) but she'll only need one along with some princess-wear.
My mom will wear whatever she wants. At 75, and having to raise 4 kids, she deserves at least that.

Given the size of the cabins of cruise ships (even though I hear the Disney cabins are bigger) we don't like to pack too much clutter. It also saves on luggage fees as we're flying Delta to take advantage of the luggage services.

Five months from now, we'll be packing furiously!

Can't wait! Can't wait! Can't wait! Can't wait! Can't wait!

Welcome to all of the new cruisers!!!! We have been all over the western states over the last few weeks and it looks like our ranks are growing -- we are so excited.

Questions of the week (looks like I missed a couple)

We have always overpacked for the cruises so we are limiting ourselves to one large suitcase -- we'll see how that works!

Dressing for dinner. My husband has a dark suit which he wears for formal night and semi-formal night. I'll probably wear a semi-formal dress. On our last cruise, we had the boys wear tux shirts, etc for formal night and shirt and tie for semi-formal. It was fun to dress up and take pictures. We can remind the kids that they clean up well!!!:laughing:

Welcome to all of our new cruisers on this voyage :goodvibes
I was looking at the excursions and info on St.Croix and it doesn't
seem like there is a lot for kids to do except go to the beach and snokel.
My kids are under 10 and too young for some of the excursions.
What are you planning on doing with your kids in St.Croix?
Thanks and Happy 4th of July weekend!

Yes, I feel the same way of lack of activities for the young ones. Our oldest will be 8 and finds anything like a Cruzan Rum tour would be boring. We'll likely stay on the ship for that (Christine and I might go for a walk around the diamond shops but there are also deals to be had in St. Thomas so we'll likely hold off until then)

Have I missed anything - are we going to try to do the FEs on this cruise? Is there a sign-up already?

I know she's very busy at home right now, but Hadley was going to set up something I believe for that. She's already doing so much planning, it may be too much for her.

Now that it's the summer holidays (Canada Day was yesterday, our version of the American 4th) the kids might do a FE project under the guidance of mom. This is a maybe as Mom's not too excited about them, and I simply don't have time with the boatload of work I currently have.

I'm simply looking forward to the Shipload of fun in 5 months!:dance3:

I was looking at the St. Croix excursions also and there isn't much. DS is 9 so most of them we can't do. I don't really want to do the beach and snorkel since we will be doing that at Castaway cay. I would really just like to see the area maybe sight see. Anyone with little kids planning anything yet?

I would also love to do a FE!!!
