Dec 27/08 NYE Western Cruise - Really New Thread

Your camera lens has lots of angles built into the glass.

The light can come in from the side and refract off the lens.

It can also be dust or spots on the glass.

(except dust spots tend to be in the same spot on every pic)

Like the hair, it's too close for the camera to focus on it.

I'm cleaning my lens right now! I don't want orbs!! Way too creepy.

FE Rotation!!!!!

In order for everyone to get ready for dinner and unpacked the first night of the sailing, I have left that off the list so that all FE can be up in time for gifts. When a day is listed.. you can deliver ANYTIME during that day. No specific times.. :goodvibes

I have purposely left Friday w/no deliveries, as I am concerned w/the time constraints of CC and then people packing up their belongings before dinner. Soooo.. Hope everyone likes the rotation. I accomodated all those that put requests in.

On a side note, has anyone heard from Michele or that family? I was just unfamiliar w/that name, and just want to make sure that those 3 cabins get the rotation.

Anjelica, can you add this info to your website?? Thanks so much!!

Looks great! Thanks so much for organizing this!

oh.. so update on the prego shopping..

I found a nice dress for NYE.. its a black chiffony type number. Very nice.. and only $30. It was marked down. I also found a prego bathing suit for $30 (marked down from $80) and some cute clothes and shorts. All at a maternity outlet store over the weekend.. I feel so much more prepared for the cruise.

Those sound wonderful -- you were so lucky to find them on sale, too:goodvibes

I have a feeling I may not catch up here until after the cruise - if I don't mention I liked pictures, etc I am not ignoring you all

The swim meet - basically was a disaster from start to finish - she missed 2 of her events Sat - and added times to the other 4 events between Sat and Sun - her head was just not in the game - I didn't even watch her last event I was just so frustarted and fed up with her games

Needless to say - it was a very quiet ride home in the car

Sure hope the swim meet this weekend is better - or it will be a very quiet plane airride next week

Maybe poor Kara just needs a vacation!;) :goodvibes

oh.. YEAH Michele.. I was just worried, as I couldnt place the name.. now that I see your screen name.. you are ONCE AGAIN familiar to me.. I think its the pregnancy brain.

Glad that everyone liked the schedule.. I think this is going to be FUN!!! I have never participated in a FE before.. Now I have to make mine.. need to find the directions and demensions again. That is this week's project.

Thanks julie... it was hard finding the sale items.. but I am a true bargain shopper.. though, w/that I should disclose that I paid full price for one of those CUTE maternity sweaters that show off the bump.. That was $45.. OUCH!! but its adorable!! and better get here soon. They didnt have my size in the store, and were shipping it to me from their warehouse!

Thank you Tigg for that scientific explanation.. I honestly didnt know that could have been her hair.. I was just having fun w/Aisling... although.. I do believe in spirits.. All good ones OF COURSE!!

I know you are super busy...this is my way of keeping busy with you :)

Brenda & Michelle:

I miss the sounds of your company :sad2:

Thanks for a great weekend. I'm so relaxed that I really don't care that I haven't packed :rotfl2:

Tomorrow I'll pack...
it was REALLY quiet after you left :sad2: but Ryan & Julia came over for awhile & went in hot tub & pool....then Ry spent the night with us there....but so glad we've met up prior to cruising....will be EVEN MORE FUN hanging out!!!!!

I just got these pics from Chad. He takes better pictures that I do, that's for sure!

These were taken in my dining room. I'll get him to take some in the other direction looking into the living room and alcove. It looks so purty at night with all the lights! So far, Brian hasn't bothered the tree, and I thought he would since it's real, and it has a sweetish scent, but he's been a good boy!

Hi Kelly!
Saw Chad's photos...but he hadn't posted the photo with Louise yet....what a nice photo of them - they are so cute together!

Don't worry about paying a little more for a maternity sweater you really love -- you will end up wearing it a lot (no one expects a pregnant woman to worry about being an "outfit repeater":rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: ). It's just crazy to spend more than you have to overall for maternity clothes so it's great you got several things on sale.

I have a request on the FE schedule...

Would someone who has a delivery date in the first few days of the cruise be willing to switch with me? I've got 1/1 right now.

If a switch doesn't work for anyone, I'll deliver whenever; but I really think you guys would prefer to get our gift early rather than late.

Kelly, I thought I sent you a PM with my early in the cruise request last week, but as scattered as I've been lately, maybe I just thought I sent it.
I think I need a vacation! :thumbsup2

Shelia..

Why dont you switch w/Kathy.. Kathy.. does that sound ok?

I have to go back through my stuff.. I had everyone's request written down and put them up first then just filled in.

Sorry for the confusion. Anjelica.. could you make that change?!?!

I'll change my FE day if need be. Any day is fine with me.

Do you think these could be "orbs", spirit energies? Many pics I have of Brian have those white ball things in them. I'm getting creeped out now.

No, tell him to clean the lens.:scared:

Would you be open to the idea of using a tripod?

I use a Nikon D40. I can give you very detailed tips if you choose not to use a tripod. My settings are very customized as I favor the P mode...What model Nikon are you using?

For basic, basic suggestions for anyone doing night lights:

No Flash!
Use a Hi ISO setting, 800 - 1600 or even higher.
Line up your shot,
pull your elbows all the way in to your side,
take a breath, hold that breath
and click.

ETA: You can get a good long exposure by using a solid surface like a trash can top to set you camera or elbows on to help steady your hand.

If you are doing night portraits. Use the night setting, you'll need the flash, and have them hold still til the photo is done - you'll get people blurs if they move before the shutter finishes.

I'm archiac - I have a D70s - one of the first digital SLR's from Nikon. It's a great little product though - I fell in love with Nikon from my film camera several years ago. I got used to their settings, etc. and since I could interchange the lenses I stuck with it.

Believe it or not I don't have a tripod - I have thought about getting one of those little bendable kind for some of the fireworks pictures, etc. But for the Osbourne lights - did you use a tripod or did you do it manually?

did you use a tripod or did you do it manually?

Nope, I do mine the basic way. Arms in, stand strong, take a breath, hold it and shoot. I'm am hoping Santa brings me a new one this year. My son and his ex GF used mine for a photo class they took together and gave it back to me with a bum leg.

I to started out with a Nikon film camera (n6006) and a Nikonos 5 underwater camera. I usually don't travel with a tripod. I tired the bendable ones but they are not sturdy enough for the lens on the SLR. I do use a tripod when I shoot scenes at work. I try not to use a flash if I don't have to, I like the ambient light, and most of the people I take photos of don't move. On trips I just prop myself against something.:thumbsup2
