Thanks aesalsa for the reassurance.
If I were to waitlist day by day, I would leave my SSR ressie intact so that I have a week solid somewhere.
Then I would waitlist for BCV day by day using seperate points, if all days do not come through by the time we are 2 weeks away from leaving, then I would cancel any days that did come through. I know the points would go into holding, but we are going to DL in May/June 2009 and can use them then. Make sense?

Yup! And if you cancel 31 days out, you don't go into holding iirc.

I've had good luck with the day by day waitlist. December 10th came through for us (1 Bedroom at BCV). Our stay is now Dec 10-18th at BCV.

We currently have a 1 bedroom at SSR for 12/6 - 12/13. We are waitlisting a 1 bedroom at BCV, OKW, & VWL. I decided to waitlist the whole week not day by day since I really have no desire to move mid week. I know it's a long shot, but wishing never hurt anyone!!!

I looked at some of the posts, but not too many - anybody actually have a waitlist come through during the week of 12/7 - 12/12 yet? I waitlisted for a 2-bdrm the whole trip right at 9:00am on 5/12, but haven't heard anything yet. I've heard the day by day has a better shot, but I didn't want to split up my trip with little kids. I waitlisted for any spot other than SSR just to increase my odds.

We called yesterday and waitlisted VWL 12/20-12/24 for a Studio BUT firmed OKW for same time....Just HAPPY to be spending 2nd Christmas in a row at WDW

So typically, how are the chances of waitlists getting filled by time? I was under the impression that the 7 month window kicking in was the best chance of filling and then chances slowly go down as you approach the reservation time. Or is it just completely random?

We are confirmed at OKW in a 2Bd, Dec 21-24 but are waitlisted for a 2Bd standard view at BWV for the same dates.

Excellent question! Also, I will add another question to it: since it has been almost a month since the window opened, are we better off adding a day by day reservation may be starting with the first day and then if that is filled adding another day?

We are waitlisting Dec 30-31 at BCV but I am beginning to think I should book something. I am already staying at the GF on cash for five nights so I really need to use my points for the remainder of my stay.

MS is closed so was just wondering if anyone had checked.

I called day-by-day. I think only two days were immediately available when I called. I am still missing a studio for the 23rd but booked a 1 bedroom to at least have something but am confident a studio will still come through. Funny thing..when I was on the phone with MS this AM waitlisting the 25th the 24th, 22nd and 25th opened up!!

I just called member services because I thought today with the start of my 7 month window, but I miscalculated and it is tomorrow. Anyway, I have not checked on my wait list for a couple of months and I just now find out I am no longer on the waiting list for Boardwalk or anything else for that matter. OK what the heck happened. So now I had to be put back in the system and start all over again. Also I got dealt the nice news that starting tomorrow there is really nothing open at all at any of the resorts. So I will have to go on wait list when I call back tomorrow also. I guess I will start multiple wait lists and see what comes available.

I wish there was a way that we could view our active waitlists. I don't call every day checking on the status, I just figure they're still there. The only time I call in and ask about them is if I happen to be calling about something else. I wonder how many people call in just to query the status of their Waitlists?

Yes it would be great to be able to view our wait lists. Maybe that's a suggestion we need to start making and if enough of us say something they might do it.

I emailed them about it a few weeks ago, and the response I got was that we could call in to check.

Like you suggested though, maybe if enough people ask for it, they'll do it. Right now, I'm guessing they feel that it's cheaper to take the calls than to implement an Information System to do it.

Well, I decided to change my strategy today. My trip from 12/3-12/14 is currently split between 3 resorts:
12/3 BWV pool view 1 BR
12/4-9 SSR 1 BR
12/9-14 OKW 1 BR

I also have waitlists for 12/4-9 and 12/9-14 at BCV & BWV, plus AKV for the 2nd set. However, I decided to start adding a single day waitlist also. So today I added a waitlist for 12/4 at BWV pool view 1 BR. My thoughts are that I may have better luck 1 day at a time, but I don't want to move each night. Why not waitlist day by day and for the whole 5 days too? I think you can do day by day for each day -- you don't have to do those 1 day at a time. Unless I'm misunderstanding your note?

I read it as you want to say 12/4 through 12/9 and you waitlisted for that period, plus you waitlisted for 12/4. If you get 12/4, then you'll waitlist for 12/5, etc ... did I read it right?

If so, you should be able to waitlist for 12/4 through 12/9 and waiting for 12/4, 12/5, 12/6, 12/7, 12/8, and 12/9 at the same time -- assuming you have the points.
