Debt Dumpers - 2016

Well...that was an adventure! Registration opened at noon today for the Disney World Marathon weekend (in January) and I managed to get myself signed up for the 5K after 15 mins in the queue (right at noon, of course) and before I could register my daughter, it was on hold, and then sold out! So instead of running as a family...I guess I'm running all by myself.

Look into Travel agents, some have bibs for the races. You have to book a room with them, but you need one of those anyway right?
I'm surprised the 5K sold out that fast, it's usually the last to go.

Thank you for the good thoughts and prayers for my DH! We really appreciate it. :goodvibes

His 3rd interview went really well, and they offered him a job. However, it wasn't the job he applied for, and this job would definitely interfere with his self-employed work. He's got a week to decide what he wants to do. Unless they are willing to work with his schedule, I think he's going to have to turn them down. The job he applied for would have been wonderful as far as hours go, but that position has already been filled. We'll have to wait and see what happens when he talks to them next week.

Sadly, I have not paid anything off. Life has been stressful and Murphy has been hanging around.. We are getting by, but not getting ahead. Hopefully, things will improve next month.

On the bright side, they have renewed my contract for next year and I will still have a job after summer!

Argh! My car is leaking what my dad thinks is coolant. So I have to call and get it into the shop which I've been delaying so I need to come up with some cash. Worst case I'll put the repairs on my credit card BUT if the repairs are too much I need to get a new car. I don't want a used car and I know brand new cars are not a good investment so I have no idea what to do. I still need to get the left arm bushing and my rear struts replaced. If they find anything else that needs repairs I may just say screw it and drive it to a dealer. Murphy needs to stop coming into town. He is not welcome!

For some reason, price of cars are coming down. I am just saying, cars, not trucks or SUV's. New cars have longer warranties too. Interest rates are like 2-3%, has mileage too is so much better. Good luck.

Congrats!! That is great that you paid off 2 cc!! You better take the Amex from him! Lol

Unfortunately I can't, he uses it for work, even though it's a personal card. But sometimes he uses it for home stuff too.
But I took mine out of my wallet so I wouldn't be enticed to use it.

Just wanted to put this out there. Last week we finally used part of our tax refund to pay off the last remaining bit of our massive credit card debt. It was well over 20 grand at one point when I found out my wife, who paid the bills at the time, was not paying down and only paying minimums while spending like a maniac while on maternity leave. I took over finances 7-8 years ago and chipped away at it as best we could.

Feels great to be free of the weight of that debt! No more interest for the credit card companies! Scares me to think of how much they already got in interest.

Update: I am still married to an idiot

So two months ago I was sitting pretty with a credit score of what I thought was 806, no debt, and a few grand in the bank account.

This weekend the wife opens up the mail from our Discover card, which we never use anymore (but keep the card open) and she notices that we have a balance from a charge in December and 3 months worth of late fees and we are delinquent. She charged my Christmas present to that card to keep the present a secret from me and then forgot to pay it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I deleted the entire Discover info from my spreadsheet because it was paid off and we never use it anymore so I was not tracking or checking the account at all.

My credit score is now 696 - fair rather than excellent. So... my plan for a new car this year is out the window, so I decided I should just get a check-up on my old car and get it repaired and dropped $1,500 (should have been part of my downpayment on a new car) on that this weekend. :furious:

I want to murder someone.

Ouch - 3 months worth of late fees! Didn't your wife get a statement before just recently? Your credit score will go back up. I would suggest checking on your interest rate on that card now because they may raise that up since its three months behind.

Hearing about all of the struggles with partners who aren't on board with debt dumping makes me glad I'm not married. My parents fought a lot about money when I was growing up. I think it is one of the biggest stresses on couples. Good luck to all of you who are dealing with partners who aren't on the same page financially!

I just got some awesome work news! My employer launched a "Women in ____" (insert company name) a few years ago, talking about how they are going to encourage more women into the company, support them more etc (I work in mining so predominantly male industry) but so far nothing further had come out of it - well- I I contacted HR officially last week to let them know about my pregnancy, and see what I needed to do on my end, find out if I still get benefits/vacation etc, and the girl I talked to gave me some info, but said she thought a change in the policy was underway, and this morning I was sent the new company policy- I will get the first 19 weeks of leave paid at 100% of my pre-maternity base salary :thud: I just can't believe it!

Wow!!! That is awesome.

That is great news! That new policy is great for new mom's. When I had DD and DS, I got 6 weeks at reduced pay. Lol. That was quite a while back though.

I know I still can't believe it! While here in Canada you can get up to a year of leave and go on social assistance, the amount you receive is not that much when you are the primary earner (which I am) we have been budgeting and saving already (I'm due beginning of Sept) but this should def make a March vacation do-able!

First post on here, though I've gone through and read all the posts over the last week... Just wanted to share!

Paid off 3 of my school loans just now! Leaves me with 5, too bad they're higher balances than the others, but I took care of the high interest ones first. DF is paying off 3 of his when he gets home tonight!

First time posting on this forum and looking for some advice on a situation. We recently sold and purchased a new home and got a check from the sell of the old house. We have a balance of ~$7k on a car that would be paid by the end of the first quarter of 2018. We have roughly the same amount from the house deal. With a note of $300/month of the car, should we pay it off, or just save the money in our account?

I would pay it off since you'll then save money from not paying the interest. Unless you don't have an emergency fund, then I'd say to fund that first and use the remainder to pay on the car. $300/month is a good chunk that you can then put toward other payments or savings!

Does anyone know how to get a live human when they call the IRS? :furious: DH is trying to find out where his refund was, but said he couldn't get anyone to answer the phone no matter what he did yesterday. Anyone have experience with this?
