Debt Dumpers - 2016

I'm feeling really down today. DH being laid off is taking its toll, and it's not just the money. It's been a complete life disruption. I feel like I can't sneeze without him being on top of me. He has been doing household chores for me, which I know is good, but of course being a type A it's not the way I would do it. There is certainly nothing for us to look forward to - won't be traveling to family for Easter, I'll be working this summer instead of going on a vacation. I found out today at the dermatologist that I have a skin rash that is inflamed from stress - no kidding! All I really want to do is sleep -- and eat. Why can't I be one of those depressed people who STOP eating? Man, I'd be so skinny!!

I'm so sorry that you're feeling so down. I don't have advice, I can only offer hugs! Here's hoping things start to look up for you!

Sorry to hear your stressed and feeling down. Maybe like the other poster said that you could do day trips?

I hear you. Shortly after our first wedding anniversary, DH was laid off. He drove me nuts wanting to talk about everything with me as soon as I got home from work. Like your husband, mine did all the chores and cooking. Then I was laid off a few months later and we took turns being employed/unemployed for the next year. We joke that we had so much togetherness during that time period and didn't kill each other, so we can survive anything now.

I know it's rough. I hope it gets better for you soon, but in the meantime I hope you can ask him for a little space. I had to do the same with my husband. I won't say his feelings weren't hurt a bit, but we were both a lot happier when I was able to decompress for a bit before he started the flood of words.

THIS exactly! Thank you for understanding :)

Vent ahead .....

I'm getting to where I hate my roommates!! They just got in a screaming fit because one of them is trying to figure out a way to go with me on vacation (I don't really want him to, but don't know how to say that without sounding like a d**k) and the other is having a fit because she hasn't ever gone to WDW and can't even try to go this trip due to surgery the week before.

Given my 'druthers, I'druther neither one went on this trip. I'm going to be spending half my time in the resort working on my grad class, and don't want to deal with someone else moving around the room or watching tv or asking "when are we going to ________".

I want this trip for ME as an escape from them for a week.

I know, it makes me sound childish, and petulant, and unfriendly, and probably a few other adjectives. I'm just not sure if I care at this point.
Wait, just to clarify, does d**k mean dork? ;)
lol just kidding!! :lmao:

Sorry, I couldn't resist that one. You know you are loved & respected here!

I hope you have a peaceful trip alone if that's what you need now. I agree with who ever said he needs to pay back rent before he can afford a vacation.
Life is way too short to be treated like a doormat by anyone. It is possible to be assertive in a polite but firm tone. :thumbsup2

Well, I do tell my students at school that I am proud to be a N.E.R.D --> Not Even Remotely Dorky!!

My husband was the same way. Right after we got married we moved to CA for my job and he hadn't found one yet. I swear was waiting at the door for me to get home like a puppy. I finally had to tell him he wasn't allowed to talk to me until I had been home for at least 15 mins.

Well, no debt dumping for us last month :( Just our minimums, unfortunately. We made some needed upgrades to our house with the new dishwasher though. We did have some money leftover that we could have put towards debt, but we are going to have our back door replaced since water blows up under the door when it rains- yikes! Not too mention all the cold air that comes in around it when it's cold. I did mail my taxes yesterday though so all of my refund will go towards DH's car.

Not a debt dump but a nice low cost meal today :) I went to Chick Fil A, I have the calendar card for the year so my total expenditure was less than $4 - for a kids meal, chocolate milk to bring home, free large soda, free cookie for my birthday. I love saving money for meals like this. But on a debt dump note - this was the first month without a car payment so I made a nice $500 payment to my CC that is currently #1 in my list to pay off :)

Yay on no more car payments!!! That is a huge payment to your cc! Way to go!!

Eagerly awaiting the day when we have no car payment! Ugh, never again!

I know I don't really have any right to complain since we've now been able to dump our debt (besides mortgage and car payment) but ever since we got this money things have crept up - youngest daughter needed a new backpack because hers started completely falling apart, our garage door (we have a detached garage so the door that leads to our backyard) is starting to rot (darn wet climate) and will need to be replaced and most recently, today I went in for an oil change only to find out I need all new tires soon. Grrrrr.....I mean, it's great that we have the money to pay for this so yay. Timing is everything I guess!

@scdak congrats on paying off your car!! Being able to funnel that money to a cc is great!!

You have every right to complain! That's what always happens - you get ahead with extra cash and Murphy just walks in to take it! It's frustrating.

Just wanted to send a  your way. I've been in a similar situation before and know how stressful it can be. Praying things get better for you soon!

This is such a great thread! I love hearing that debts are being paid off, and I love the encouragement as well!

My DH and I are determined to get debt paid off this year, once and for all. Our savings account took a hit recently with car and dryer repairs, so our first order of business will be to build that back up. After that, we plan to hit the debt snowball. We do have a vacation planned for this year, but we may either re-work our vacation budget to make the trip more affordable while we pay down our debt, or we may postpone it for a few months. We're taking a wait-and-see kind of approach right now.

We're glad to have you join us!! Seems like we've all been hit with car issues on here this year! Their so costly! Is your vacation plan to Disney?

Thanks for the warm welcome, Gracie! :goodvibes

It's sort of a Disney vacation. LOL! We're scheduled to be in Orlando for 11 nights. Five of those nights, we are scheduled to stay on property with a 1 day visit to Epcot. The rest of the time, we'll be at our timeshare and visiting family, the beach, and other Orlando attractions.

We have over 50% of the trip paid off already, with almost 6 months to go. I know we can do it, but I want to make sure we get the emergency fund back to where it needs to be, and get the ball rolling with the debt snowball as well. We'll probably re-evaluate our options in another month or so.

Not really budget related, but man I have seriously been wanting a DW trip lately! I received one of the pin codes in e-mails for a room discount and free parkhoppers. It's sooooo tempting, but I know we shouldn't. Plus, I really don't want to go back until they have some of the new stuff open, even though I know that will be probably 2018ish. I'm just reminding myself that the next time we go back, we wanted to take our parents and how great that will be!

Sorry for the slightly-off topic, just had to share. In the meantime I am watching the Disney Parks youtube channel and looking at all the resorts to make myself feel better!
