I really need to dump some debt in 2015. 2014 was off to a good start but we took several big hits that we weren't expecting and it really derailed a lot of our plans.
Not included in our 2014 budget was:
- having to spend almost $3,000 on surgery, travel, and vet bills for our cat to fix an ulcer on his eye that our regular vet screwed up and misdiagnosed. 6 months after that, we spent another $1,000 on the cat to find out he had cancer in his pancreas and had to put him to sleep. So, $4K on a cat that we don't even have anymore
- my husband ended up needing his wisdom teeth pulled after all these years plus he needed an MRI on his chest. Those cost us several thousand dollars we weren't expecting this year.
- i got pregnant, which I wasn't expecting and so we've spent right much money getting ready for baby, setting up nursery, etc.
- my car transmission went out and I had to get that replaced.
- we added a teenage driver to our insurance. (We knew this was coming, but it ended up costing a little more than I expected it to). Now, he has already had an accident so we are paying for unexpected car repairs.
It just seemed like it was hit after hit after hit in 2014. Hard to save money and pay off debt when each month it seemed liked something big happened.
Of course we will have extra baby expenses in 2015, but I'm hoping that we don't take so many hits in 2015 and can actually work towards paying down debt and replenishing our savings. We need a good year and I need to figure out where to start!
