Debt Dumpers - 2013

I actually have very little debt but have the full intention of being

DEBT FREE!!!! Can I get a woohoo?

I owe about 45 more payments on my house and then I will own it free and clear.

A kink in my chain is that I will HAVE to get another car this year - man I hate car payments.

but hey - yay us! :grouphug:

We have put pretty much every extra cent on our house for a while - there were lots of times I would have rather had the steak dinner instead of the $50 going to to house.

When I get a car, I'm debating on doing 2 loans - one for 48 months and a LOC against my house for $3000 or $4000 which we can pay off with my husband's profit sharing and my christmas bonuses.

We went to the bank today and got a lot done. Opened a separate savings account for a nest egg so we don't touch it, found out about 529s, and got things started to refinance our home equity loan down from 6% to 3.24. We have four and a half years left on it and will save $16/mo on payments and a little bit of interest over the term.

Arghhhh... Both of our Visa card numbers were stolen and used fraudulently so they've been cancelled. Two cards but they both go to the same account. Which is now maxed out thanks to the fraud... Argh! I know we'll get that money back but it's a huge pain... :sad1:

My stress level is through the roof today. We just had our Visa Debit card number stolen last month. Which means they cleaned out our bank account. We got the money back but it was really hard to budget around that...

so sorry to hear that. i only use my debit card now to take money out of the ATM because of horror stories like this. last year i had my CC number stolen and i called, they canceled the account number, and i got my money back in a few days. hope your budget doesn't take a big hit because of this. :grouphug:

i checked in to say i just sent my second payment this month in (the other half of the extra paycheck). once applied this subloan will have a balance of less than $500 which i should be able to tackle by May the latest. :cool1: im itching for a vacation but that will have to hold off for a few more months.

Aw man! What a pain. My # was stolen 2 years ago 7 days before my Disney vacation. I know your stress. Big hugs. Even though you know you will get the money back...bills are still due. Just try to take a deep breath and know that it will be taken care of soon.

If you don't mind me asking, who are you refinancing with? We are thinking of doing the same thing.

I'm so sorry. Our CC # was stolen last month. We received a call from the bank that morning stating they wanted to make sure the charge for tickets in England was made by us. Well, it wasn't. Thank goodness they caught it that day. I don't check statements regularly so that might have gone unnoticed for a while. Big HUGS to you guys.

Sorry to hear about your cards!! My debit card was hacked the day after Christmas!! It is such a pain!

Way to go on only 45 more payments with the house!! I know how you feel about car payments! Every time I get new car fever I just remind myself that I have no car payment. That brings me back to reality. I'm sure in about two to three years I will need a new one.

Thanks everyone. It's definitely a pain! We don't use our card very often, but I do have a few recurring payments that go off of there (Netflix, life insurance, etc) and I just pay those off every month (plus extra so I can get the card paid off). It's a pain to have to cancel everything and move payments around and pay out of pocket for stuff I can usually put off until payday. My husband only gets paid once a month, so managing our finances is a challenge!

I was in the area near Target, so i decide to pay my bill off but the parking lot is always sooooo crazy that I left. I'll pay it off at another Target tomorrow after my Dentist appts.

My flex $$ finally got reinbursed but they only gave me $4.32 for mileage the total was to be about $93 but they didnt include the ortho.:confused3 I called and was asked if i sent in a copy of my contract I told the lady this was my final ortho payment and yes i sent in the contract back in July when my flex started. She says oh, well let me look up your account.

I asked if there have been changes because I've had a flex account for around 4 years and this is the 1st year i've had so many problems with my correct clain amounts being reinbursed. I also told her i've had to call several times due to only mileage being reinbused but not medical or vice versa. She told me they have a lot of new employees. I'm done for the 2012-2013 year. Hopefully my 2013-2014 is less of a hassle. Once I get the $$ I will use that and the last reinbursment to pay off my BofA.

We have everything with BB&T, so it's actually a "modification." We refi'd our first mortgage last year too.

I paid off my car on Monday and will have my dentist paid off this Friday! That makes four less payments each month and an extra $500/month towards the snowball.

It is very hard to budget ahead right now as DH's hours are different each week with overtime and premium pay so I base everything on a 40 hour check and whatever is left when the next check is deposited goes towards the lowest debt. It isn't much right now, especially with gas at almost $4/gallon here and my car alone using almost one paycheck/month in gas just to/from work and DS's tkd classes.

I have to update my snowball and budget now to reflect the changes.

Congrats to everyone on the progress this year!

Another set back for me :( rents going up, so thats an extra $50 per month for me (I split the increase with two roommates, thankfully) hopefully ill be able to save enough for a course or two over the summer, but the credit cards are just getting the minimum right now until hours pick up at work.

I made a $1000 payment to my credit card today - I really wanted to pay it all off ($1900 total balance) but I have this possibly-irrational fear of my checking account getting below a certain level. I'm hoping to be able to pay the rest of soon, because the next thing on my Snowball list is my first student loan, at last! :cool1:

awesome work everyone!

i am the same way about my checking account. i often realize after bills are paid i really have too much extra in it. i used to always want to have a $2000 balance but realized it was way high, so i compromised with myself and said around $1300-$1400. i really don't know how people function with just a few dollars in it, that would make me so nervous.

I do the same thing with my checking account, except I don't account for it. It's just stashed in there. And I round up what I spend to the next dollar so that adds up to.

Yup that's me exactly! I set a limit of what I wanted to have in it before any additional money went to my loans instead, but it just seemed so low and so I let the balance creep higher, eventually settling on a higher limit. Now it's above that limit too and when I mentioned it to a good friend of mine that works in banking, he told me it was ridiculous to keep the amount I do in a checking account when I have so much debt. I guess I just remember what it was like a few years ago, when I could only pay my basic bills with sometimes literally only a few dollars to spare, and I want to hoard my money rather than put it towards my debt :confused3 The $1000 payment was a compromise between me agreeing to pay something, and him telling me to pay the whole $1900 - baby steps!

I'm so glad to have this thread - group motivation is such a good thing!!
