Can you use debit cards throughout both parks and City walk or do we need to carry cash also? Do all snack stands, gift shops etc. accept debit?

Most of the larger snack stands that sell things besides just beer accept debit cards. And all the gift shops should as well.

there are some mobile beer/drink stands that are cash only, but they're never are few yards away from another that doesn't take plastic. we use debit cards primarily. there are also ATM's at the front of and inside the parks.

I've had to hit the ATMs once or twice. Don't they charge $2.50-$2.75 per transaction?

I think most of them do. We have one at work the fee is $2.50. :sad2:

and THAT is why i don't have an atm card....you are NOT charging me 2.50 to get my own money...uh-uh...not happenin! :sad2:

I'm so used to having Wawa's free access to your money no matter what the bank is. Being in the same area of PA as I am, you should know about them!

I always feel so abused when I see that extra fee.

Besides cash backs at the store, do any other stores, in FL, offer free ATMs?

I'm still looking one. If I have to pay the fee, I always take a couple of hundred dollars out so I don't feel so dirty afterwards.

It only pays to take more out if they charge you a fee. But, I'm a cheap SOB. I hate taking more out than what I need to. I wish they still had ATM's that let you take out $5. If I have cash I spend it way too fast.

But at least I'm not the only one that feels dirty afterwards.

Publix charges $1 fee for ATM withdrawals at their Presto Machines but it's free for specific banks see http://www.publix.com/services/presto/NetworkMembers.do

If you take out $100 at a time its same price as travelers checks - 1% -- digress: do people still use travelers checks?

Taking out $5 at a time with $3 fee would not be a good thing.

I've come across a few people that used them for purchases, but it doesn't seem too popular.

I try to bring a couple hundred dollars in cash (lots of small bills) and have stuck to using the Universal MC for purchases. For a typical day in the park, I'll bring $40 for small purchases, under $10, just to speed up the process of buying drinks and snacks.

I used to use the debit card, but our bank has a maximum transaction fee of $400 a day in purchases. On our honeymoon, we went to purchase tickets for Epcot and the card wouldn't work. Our transactions from the past 3 days all posted on that day. So, our card was denied for direct purchases or cash withdrawls. And we didn't have a credit card at the time to fall back on.

Plus, I'm very anal. Coming back from a trip and entering all the transactions into your check book really sucks.

We use our Wachovia debit card for all our merchandise purchases and meals. I always have some cash on me for the smaller carts and such. Last year we went to a Best Buy in Orlando, and saw a Wachovia bank, so we hit that ATM for cash that lasted the rest of the trip. I like using my debit card, when I get home, I download my transactions into Quicken and I can see how much I spent :scared1: (pretty close to the total amount anyway) on that particular vacation.

That's why I like using Quicken, I haven't manually entered an entry into a checkbook register in about 7 years!

Hery Bernville! We're in Boyertown. Practically neighbors!

I keep a pretty good running total in my head of how much we've spent. So, I'm never really suprised. Only suprised when it falls under my estimate!

It does suck having a running total in your head. I can never fully relax... I keep threatning the DW I'm going to let her take over the bills and I'm just going to sit back and not worry about it. Hasn't happened yet though.

I keep the spending on vacation within our goal/limit, but it usually means waiting until the end of the trip for sovenier shopping (so we don't go crazy the first few days, we usually generate a huge wishlist of things we want to get). And by the time we get to the airport, there's enough vacation spending cash to tip the sky cap and share a meal.

I see you guys are going to HHN 17? We wish we were going, but little monster number 2 is due Oct. 12th. We were going to 'work' on number 2 after HHN, but things didn't go as planned.
