Debbie’s Watermelon Trip Report – Day 4

Cast of Characters: Debbie (Me), age 21, full time college student, part time nanny.

After the last few days of being up late and getting up early, I was able to “sleep in” until 7:00. My plans were to head to Epcot at 10:00 when the park opened and head straight to the park entrance (I was coming in through the International Gateway) and head to the Kodak store to get my Off Kilter photo enlarged. So, after another nutritious breakfast of Pop Tarts and Sprite on my balcony, it was out the door I went.

I arrived at Epcot about 9:15, so I had time to spare. I got to talking to a wonderful family from Tennessee. It was a mother, father, and 6 year old girl. The girl is very talented artistically, and also loves Mickey and Minnie. So, after we talked for a while, she drew me a picture of me, her, Mickey and Minnie. What a doll she is!

We were let in to the park at 10:00 sharp, and it was a mad dash to the front of the park to get to the photo store. After yesterday’s experience with crowds, I wanted to beat the rush of people at the front gate. Unfortunately, I wasn’t successful. I felt like a fish swimming in the wrong direction – it took me forever to get in to the store.

I finally made it inside the Kodak shop at 10:30, and, after a quick phone call to the processing lab, they let me drop off my negatives. I was told it would take about 2 hours for my photo to be enlarged, so stop back between 12:30-1:00 to pick it up.

By this point, it was pointless to even attempt to try to get to any shows or anything in Future World because of the crowds, so I stopped in the Fountain View Bakery and had a fruit salad and water. I caught the next show of the Kristos, a group performing amazing acrobatics behind the Future World fountain. They are amazing! I still had about an hour to kill before I could pick up my photo, so I pulled up a bench near SSE and people watched. I was determined to have a lazy day after the past few day’s busy schedule, and so far I’ve succeeded!

At 12:30 on the dot, I returned back to the Kodak store and picked up my photo. It turned out extremely well, and I was very happy! A huge watermelon point for the day! I dug out my permanent black ink pen so that they could sign it and attached the pen to the photo’s envelope.

After a quick restroom break, I headed over to Canada’s stage. I’m glad I got there early, because not only was I able to grab a front row seat, but the stage was filled by the 1:30 start time. Unfortunately, the lead guitarist’s father has been ill as of late, so he wasn’t at the show today. He was the one responsible for this photo, so I really was hoping to see him to thank him and have him sign the photo. There was a fiddle player there in his place that was excellent, so I was pleasantly surprised at how well the show went.

After the show ended, I approached the stage before they got swarmed with people, and got Tony, the keyboard player, to sign the photo. I’ve spoken with Tony many times after shows, and he is a very, very nice man. He seemed really surprised that I had the photo blown up and signed. Naturally, he obliged, and signed right above where he was standing in the photo.

As he was signing, Jason, the fiddle player came over, and started looking at the photo. Even though he wasn’t in the photo, I still asked him to sign it. He was really awkward about signing it, but I jokingly told him that once Off Kilter becomes rich and famous, he will be just as much a part of the band as everyone else, even if he is the “substitute.” He laughed, and signed at the very top of the photo. He is another very nice guy who is also extremely talented.

I then proceeded to ask Jamie (the bagpipe player), Mark (the base player) and Scotty (the drummer) to sign. They were all very happy to sign the photo, and all, just as Tony was, were surprised that I had the photo blown up. Scotty at first refused to sign the photo, claiming that he looked terrible, and didn’t want to take credit for being the guy in the photo. He got a kick out of the fact that he was “redded out” of the last photo I had with the group, so he really couldn’t complain too much. J Seriously, all of the guys in the band are very nice people off stage, and I’m very glad that I had the opportunity to speak to them. Two thumbs up and a huge watermelon for Off Kilter!

As it was now 2:15 and the next show wasn’t until 3:30, I took a quick walk around World Showcase and then returned back to Canada.

Because I don’t want to bore you with more Off Kilter ramblings, I’ll speed up until after the last Off Kilter show. By this point, Epcot was nearly wall to wall people, so I quickly paced it over to Germany for ToD. I had to take a seat on the ground for the parade, but I made it!

I’m convinced that the CM’s I know in ToD are out to beat me up; I got whacked with three puppets during the first show alone. They’re out to eat my watermelon!!!

The benches outside the Germany gate cleared after the first pass, and I was determined to stake them out, so I took up my corner of the bench. I was glad that I did, as it was once again very crowded for the second showing of ToD. Watermelon!

As with the previous nights, I headed out of Epcot following ToD and was able to watch Illuminations from my balcony. As usual, I am now writing my trip report from my wonderful Dolphin room.

Another watermelon day is over! Tomorrow: Am I brave enough to battle the crowds at the MK? Or, will I have another lazy day at Epcot? Stay tuned!

Debbie -- enjoying reading your reports. FYI it's about 45 degrees and raining this morning in S. Jersey. (although we need that rain for "Watermelons" lol) Continue to have a great time -- Can't wait for our next trip to the world in the Fall.
