Debating the rental of a toddler bed - Have You??

My son will be 2.5 when we go in August. He is still in a crib and has not expressed interest in a bed. He sleeps on a raised cot at daycare and has napped on a toddler bed at nana's.

I know he will be able to sleep in a toddler bed, but I hesitated on the confirmation page because its $88...and there will be a double bed in our room empty.

Will he be ok in the double bed with bed rails?? I am afraid he will miss the confines of a smaller area?

Anybody do this? He has never slept in our bed and only slept in a pack and play for two nights...

Last year when we went he would fall asleep with us in the bed, which he loved, and the we would transfer to the crib.

Any opinions? Even though I didn't click on it, I am still leaning toward the rental...

Our boys have all at one time or another been that age at Disney and each time we've done either the pack-n-play or the toddler bed rails provided free of charge by the resort. Both worked out very well - they actually revel in the space available on the bed with the rails... although Mommy misses the confinement factor of having them in a pack-n-play (and unable to get into midnight mischief)...

One year we used a toddler AeroBed (we drive so space was not an issue) and that was also a big hit.

If your little one fits in the pack-n-play, use that. If he's too big for it, request the bed rails. The bed rails are fairly long and tall and create a nice secure place on the bed. We put all the extra pillows and couch cushions on the floor around the bed where the bars didn't extend just for our own peace of mind.

Whatever gives YOU peace of mind is the best choice. :goodvibes

Our youngest was 2.5 yrs old on our last trip. He sleeps in a crib at home and he slept in the Pack N Play at WDW with no problems.

We've also used bedrails when our other kids were younger, but they were already sleeping in beds at that point.

Honestly, your little one is probably going to be so tired at the end of the day that he'll sleep anywhere. :goodvibes

we are renting the toddler bed for ds who will be 3 during our trip, he sleeps on a toddler bed at home, he did sleep in a twin bed against the wall with the rail when we were at the beach with no issue, however I am always afraid that they will not have enough rails or something like that and i have shown him the photo of his "disney" bed and he seems excited about it, I think that you will be fine either way but I vote rent it if that is what you are leaning towards just in case so you wont say "I should have" if the rails don't work out, have fun!

When we took my DD at 2 yrs 10 months, she LOVED sleeping in the big queen size bed with bed rails. She had no problems at all and she is a pretty wild sleeper. If he seems scared of the size of it, then just have someone stay in the bed with the bed rails with him until he falls asleep like you did last year. I wouldn't pay for the rental.

When we go to WDW with our littel ones we take our inflatable air matress with is. Portable and reusable. They always sleep fine on it on the floor.

Get the railings or move your bed up against the wall - that's what we do. One sleeps with a child and the youngest's bed is moved against the wall.

If you are going to rent, why not rent a crib since that's his usual sleeping arrangment? I've used Orlando crib rentals and they are great - $70 for the week. I wouldn't want to try something new on vacation.

That's a good idea, and will save money if you're not requesting a crib or toddler's bed. :thumbsup2

Just make sure you get down at the level of the air mattress and check for "ickies" before you put your child down for the night - there have been reports of some pretty gross things found under the beds, in corners, etc, in the resort rooms. These things might not be noticed until you are down at floor level. Better that you find them than your child - as someone once found prescription meds spilled under the bed.

I would get the bedrails and use this as an opportunity to start the transition to a big boy bed. I cannot imagine personally having a 2.5 year old still in a crib. We were transitioning form toddler bed to full size twin at that time.
