Debating DVC Purchase

Is there a site that shows me what’s available right now for purchase ? Or must I be a member ?

RIV rack rate for non-tower studio is over $700 for all but a few dates, it’s often in the 900s.

Rack rate is ridiculously high to make the timeshare math work for RIV.

Then they may have paid that! They had no discounts and wanted to stay there. They loved it and are going back again in summer. Now sure if there is a discount or not.

But, honestly, I think RIV is just as gorgeous as VGF so it’s all relative.

If DVC has the points, they will sell you any of them. The only one right now that yu can’t get is VGC.

If the resort is sold out, then you may not be able to buy as they have to have current UY points to sell to you.

But, I go to www.dvcnews.com to get the prices of direct, They are usually up to date. The best option, though, is to ask a guide.

Seriously, this is insane to pay that much for RIV.....when you consider the many many other options. I love Disney as much or more than most people, but $900 for a studio at RIV is simply a rip off to me.

Does DVC memberships and monthly dues qualify for 2% rewards via Disney Premier Visa? Paying cash has no incentive.

Yes, you can pay for direct points on your Disney Visa, get the rewards, and 6 months 0% interest, They will even spread it out so you can pay in 30 to 60 or 90 days, even if you have cash,

I did that with RIV...and I ended up with 7 months to keep my money before paying!

Dues earn rewards on the card as well!

The dues have to be paid all at once for the Disney visa points. If you want to pay dues monthly over the year it can only be withdrawn from a bank account, not credit card.

One way you can do a little of both is that you buy Disney gift cards with your Visa and then apply them to the account monthly.

You can also pay the first year in full, and then each month, go in and pay 1/12 of thr dues as a credit toward the next year,

This year, I am paying my contracts each month, even though on the monthly plan. Once all 4 are paid off, I will just go in and prepay for next years,

Sorry I wasn't clear. It's hard to justify spending $37K today for 200 points for our November trip only to find out I can't use RIV as I am 7 months (not 11) out.

Excellent. To be clear, 2% right?

As a benefit for buying direct as a new member, MS will help you make your "welcome home" reservation. They can pull inventory that is not available to us to make that happen. However, I do not think it is guaranteed that you get anything you want. You may want to ask your guide. However, I believe you have something like 10 days to rescind. So, if you buy (put your deposit down) you will get your account and points same day or within a business day and can try to make the reservation with MS. If you're not happy with what they can get you, you could rescind.

If for some reason they cannot get you RIV, maybe you could go for something you will have a hard time getting yourself in the future (VGF?)

And if you're getting 2020 points (depending on UY), you have plenty of extra points to play with.

(To clarify, we can't post what's showing available online per board rules. But it doesn't really matter because availability can change in a split second and DVC has inventory beyond what members can see.)

Yes -- the guide said he could pull inventory and 'reserve' what's available while the membership is processed. This is a perfect opportunity to trade given COVID/Nov and being 7 months out. I'll take a shot at Poly/GFV.

As a new owner of direct points, you can ask for your welcome home visit and they will make that trip to RIV happen for you.

They can pull a room from their own inventory to do it. It’s one of the benefits of buying direct.

Well DVC is a 50 year or so commitment, so I would not let that discourage you. However, as other have said "ask your Cm to get the reservation as part of the deal to buy" and magically it may appear.

I recently bought a house in the North Carolina mountains and sold half of my 500 DVC points to help with the financing. Even though I preferred my Boardwalk points over some of the others I owned, I sold them for $100 more per point than I paid because I feel peak price is near. I expect that when there is less than 20 years left on the contract, it will make a psychological difference for people and the price will start to come down.

You made a $25,000 profit and enjoyed great vacations....not sure this is possible to recreate today, but congrats

i was hoping as a new owner I would get lucky and they’d let me into other resorts given Halloween time is busy but they said only RIV, Saratoga Springs, Animal Kingdom Villas, Old Key West are available. Blah.

The problem is that with sold old resorts, they can’t find a room that has already been booked by owners. For example, they don’t hold rooms out of every type.

RIV can be taken from the rooms they own and those other 3 are the big ones so there is always can find something.
