Debate

I wasn't trying to stir the pot. I really was asking. I'm kinda hurt you thought I was stirring the pot.

I still don't believe in sub-80k houses in nice areas. Especially not 2000+ square feet.

:) Don't be hurt. We're all mostly harmless here.

;) Guess that's why I'm a Realtor and you're not, lol. :rotfl:

Maybe I'm wrong. But I still thought it was a ridiculous thought that it would be a nice area, near things, with jobs, etc, for <$80k.

Any "desirable" state like Florida, California, etc would never be that price.

He also likes West Virginia. No offense to anyone there but I've heard it's kinda a dump. Ohio not far behind in that regard. Again no offense to anyone who lives in either Ohio or West Virginia, but I've never heard anything good about either. Prices may be low but uhm, not the best states IMO.

You also have to consider that what is ghetto for one may be considered a fine neighborhood for another. If I just moved into Ohio from a ritzy, rich and very upper class neighborhood I'd have a very different opinion from someone who just moved there from a real inner city ghetto.

Every state has their nice and not-so-nice areas.

And you're basing your opinions on...................hearsay?

Did you see the article in the newspaper the other day about how the crime rate has SOARED in Orlando recently? But you consider Florida "a desirable" state..

:confused3

Based on pictures only of the two houses shown in this thread, they both look like they're in the ghetto.

OP, how old is this guy that you are debating with?

Hey, compared to alot of people around here I live in the "ghetto". It's really not that bad. :rotfl2: I don't think it's the ghetto but it is a nice mixed race area with schools that are on the lower end. The pluses are it's 2 miles from my work, my house is almost paid off and private schools really aren't that expensive when you have a low mortgage.

I live in the Baltimore suburbs and I've seen real ghettos. With drug dealers on the streets, bums, drunks etc... My neighborhood is heaven compared to a real ghetto.

First off, why do you care? Isn't it his money? His life? He's the one who has to live there, right?

Secondly, have you ever been to either West Virginia or Ohio? Do you honestly believe the ENTIRETY of both states are "ghetto?"

Thirdly, it is possible to find bargains in good areas. It could take some doing, but it is possible.

Where I'm at you can't even get an empty lot for that price. Even a one bedroom condo will run you more then $100K.

I just read in another thread the OP started that she is 15. That probably has alot to do with why she is "debating" with this guy so heavily over this issue. :confused3

WOW...just WOW.. Do you think we are all a bunch of crime causing , deadbeats or something.??.:confused3

We live in (GASP:scared1: ) Ohio and in Toledo to boot, not even one of the Big 3 (Cleveland, Cincy, Columbus) !! Born and raised here. Bought our house for $58,900 1600 sq ft., 4 bed, bath and 1/2, full basement, large eat in kitchen, LR, DR, 2 car garage and fenced (though small) back yard. AND HERE"S THE KICKER....we don't live in the ghetto either...We are just a lowly ol middle class neighborhood full of regular people (my Dh and I even have decent jobs..imagine that!!!!!!)..
Now, I will admit that Toledo isn't the best city in the state, but its definetly not a bad place either, we have one of the Top 5 rated zoos in the country, a wonderful art museum, Toledo Mud Hens (back to back tripleA IL champs and farm team for the Detroit TIgers) and the original Tony Packo's. EVERY CITY (even shock of shocks, Orlando ) has its good and bad parts and I would never slam a state that I have never even been in . Actually Ohio has some awesome places to visit and some beautiful scenery.

Yup.. That pretty much explains the debating and wild generalizations..;)

He won't be able to get a garage for that price around my neck of the woods! He would have to spend at least $600,000 for a house in the "bad" section of town - but I would say there is no bad section in my town!

You work for a living???? Both of you????? You aren't a SAHM with a maid and a Nanny???? Wow how much more ghetto can you get? :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

You are so right! We went to a dog show in Canton a few years back, and drove from Tennessee, having to traverse the entire state of Ohio to get there. Ohio has some BEAUTIFUL natural scenery and it is so diverse! I never would have imagined it until I actually drove through it.

I know way (way way) back when I was a teen I certainly didn't appreciate the value of money and homes. When we went to visit a family friend I wondered why they lived so far out of town and it just looked like a normal house. I now can appreciate that the "normal" house they lived in probably cost them less than half of what our "in-town" house cost. It's a whole new world when you realize what things REALLY cost and how much money $60k really is.

I can certainly appreciate it now knowing all I do, that the car sitting in my garage cost almost as much as my first house (and twice as much as my Grandparent's home :rotfl: ) Trust me, the OP will wake up quickly when he moves to Orlando in a few years and realizes those swanky yet inexpensive apartments he's probably been checking out are in the "ghetto." ;)

In all seriousness, OP, I know you have heard it before, but you haven't lived enough life to really know about money yet. You will though, so take the advice here with a grain of salt!

Does my dd13 count as my maid and nanny ??? LOL
