DEBATE: Destination: Disney! News

Wait a minute, this is only for the fools... I'm sorry, I mean uninformed guests who purchase WDTC packages (read "pay way too much for their vacation")??? So, that takes the "what the heck, give it a try" out of my formula.
Welcome back, Greg!! Do you want to drive or ride shotgun?!?! ;)

Well this might be confusing but I am hereby giving fair warning – Double Quote Alert!!!
Since I haven't said it in a while I'll say it in response to this.................
You see, Disney® is solely and exclusively concerned with creating wealth. Walt’s Disney is solely and exclusively concerned with creating! Period!
..................shades of gray, my friend, shades of gray.
Another difference my friend!! On many issues I will certainly agree to ‘shades of gray’. But not this one. In my most humble opinion it couldn’t be more black and white!!

Disney®=PROFIT
“Walt’s” Disney=Creativity

Or to borrow a term from the infamous biker, “Increasing shareholder value”. That, Mr. Kidds, is their true bottom line!! And if they can do that with decorated, off-the-shelf carny rides or Saturday morning type theatrical releases they will.

It occurs to me, as I typed the above that if I would have written that sentence 15 years ago, most people, including all of us on this board, would have laughed (and seriously scoffed) at the idea of, “decorated, off-the-shelf carny rides or Saturday morning type theatrical releases.” Today, they are not only true, but are in fact the norm. And they are also staunchly defended by many Disney zealots. How sad! :(
Tell me this, was the MK open until midnight in 1971?
You bet it was!! And it was MARVOLOUS!!!!
Regardless, standards change. If they change for good reason and there are those who don't want to recognize that
And what was that good reason again? It seems to have slipped my mind. I thought it was to squeeze pennies, or something Walt used to refer to as ‘sharp-pencil’ practices. Did I miss something? Was there another reason?
Before you say it - no, even back in 1971 I assure you Disney didn't keep all of the people happy all of the time
No, probably not. But they keep a heck of a lot more people happy (hell, ecstatic!!!) than they do today! And they still made a ton of money and secured an entire generation of devoted fans that even Ei$ner’s ineptitude hasn’t totally alienated...

... YET!!!

Hey AV:

When you and John Lassiter finally take over this company, would you mind hiring us Car 3'ers to work with you?

We promise we will deliver quality, with heart put into it. Everytime.

We'll make you proud to call us cast members. I've got 53 shares (and $11 in dividends) if you need.

Disney®=PROFIT
“Walt’s” Disney=Creativity

Walt's Disney also = profit, but via creativity.

That's what Ei$ner needs to realize....the public doesn't care about profit returns, etc.

Walt built stuff because he could dream and say "People from all over are going to want to come see this". He never mentioned the fact that they would have to pay for it.

Bravo to AV and DVC for some great points!!!!!! I couldnt agree more!!!

Don't give up too easily Greg. Looks like Mr. Grumpy might be wrong. I have confirmation that a person who booked a room only reservation thru CRO, using a discount code, was called by Disney and asked to take part in the new Destination: Disney! program test. Doesn't seem to make sense to me that they would test a program intended to only benefit WDTC package guests on non WDTC guests. I guess only time will tell what this program has in store for future WDW guests.
