Dear MIL...

No he doesn't need anything for hockey. Hockey players are very particular about their equipment, heck in 10 years I have never bought him anything hockey.

Dear MIL, Please stop sending us fancy cakes and ridiculously overpriced foods from Williams Sonoma. I bake a lot from scratch and I don't want that stuff. I don't understand why people give food as gifts. Do you think we're too poor to shop?

We've repeatedly asked the inlaws to make a donation to a local food bank or animal shelter with whatever money they would spend on us.

Stop asking me if my husband needs socks and underwear for Christmas! If he needs it he will buy it himself... he's 37 for crying out loud.

Please add your own... doesn't have to be Christmas could be anyone.
I always buy my son socks for Christmas (but not underware, lol). He was single and would never buy socks. But now he has a fiancé, so the sock buying will stop.

Hahah thanks! She gets obsessed and asks me over and over. I don't like to think about my husbands underwear, I don't know why she does. :-)

I totally get where you're coming from. I bake from scratch too and don't want prepackaged food that I can make for myself. However, I do like consumable gifts. Not necessarily food but experiences, quick weekend trips, maybe some ski tickets or tickets to a shower or dinner out or something. I don't need more junk cluttering up my house ya know?

Back to the topic.

Dear MIL,

Please stop buying us new things to decorate our house with. If I need a new bedding set I promise you I will buy it myself.

Please don't buy something off of the Amazon list that you specifically asked me to create...and then NOT give it to said child on Christmas! I'm sorry that you "bought too much" for that child and are saving it for the birthday but that child specifically asked for that item and had I known that you weren't going to actually give it to the child, I would have bought it myself.

Burned before. Now, a) nothing the child specifically asks for goes on that list, just random things child is interested in and b) I ask innocently "oh did you happen to get abc because if not, I'm going to pick it up"

Aww...all my husband asks for, for Christmas and birthday, is new socks. From me, from my mom, etc. It's his favorite thing to get!

Dear Mom, when picking the time & date to host the extended family gathering (which you host once every 3 years), it's nice of you to check to see what times work with the extended family. But, it's CRUCIAL you check with YOUR children, especially since you're counting on them to bring food.

Oh, and for the last time KEEP YOUR RECEIPTS!!!!!

Don't have a MIL.. BUT

Dear BIL,

When you know darn well that your fridge full of food came from me too. I'm not asking for much..just acknowledge it.

My in-laws give us each a check for $300 every Christmas, even though we tell them it's not necessary.
I do wish my mom would stop buying random "crap" for the kids and stick to the list she asked me to create. She's a fan of dollar store gifts. Multiple dollar store gifts.......

Dear MIL - please stop shopping for the kids at the Dollar Store. Sorry but I absolutely HATE, DETEST Dollar Store junk. This includes food and nonfood items. The candy you buy from the Dollar Store goes straight into the garbage.

BTW - nothing at all against the dollar store, I too go there for a few specific items but not for gifts.

Nope with you on that. Don't spend $40 in dollar tree. Get them a few nice gifts that they want... not crap that breaks in an hour

Dear MIL

Thanks for the gifts of fancy cakes, or tins of cookies, Godiva chocolates, and other consumables from either Williams-Sonoma or TJ Maxx or wherever. They're very much appreciated, even though some might be re-gifted to others.

Please stop sending gifts from England!!
I hate receiving a package and seeing the ridiculous amount of money you've had to pay for postage - especially when it's just a generic colouring book/tshirt etc - order something online and get it delivered here if you need to buy gifts for your grandbabies and use the money you save to look after yourself and FIL !

Dear Mil,
You know you are loved because I am going to get dressed on Christmas day. BUT dang you for getting me addicted to those amazing sandwiches from that pizza place with the bad service.

For those of you with horrible or annoying mother in laws I am truly sorry.
