Dealing with food allergies at the resorts?

DD and I are heading back to WDW in March! This will be our first time staying at Pop Century, which I know has a food court but no full-service restaurant. How do we manage DD's milk allergy at the food court? Do they have ingredient binders like at the park CS places?

Hi and to disABILITES!

Yes, they do have a binder. You might also the first time you use the food court ask to speak to the manager for additional assistsance/ideas.

What we did (which may or may not work well for you) was that every time we went to the food court we'd say to someone behind the counter "We need to speak to a chef for allergies" and then when the chef came out "I'm allergic to <food> - but I'd like something sort of like <menu item>" and they'd make us something.

I never saw an ingredient binder, but I'm sure that there is one, since the chefs checked ingredients for us several times. They were all very, very good - and every chef remembered us, and our allergies the next time they saw us.

Pop took *excellent* care of us, and I'm sure they'll take care of your son, too.

That is exactly what we did, and it worked well.

Find someone behind a counter, and tell them your child has food allergies and you need to speak to a chef. The counter doesn't need to be the one that you're wanting to pick for food, I just would grab the first person I could.

When we were there, I kept seeing the same two chefs over and over, so they knew us on sight and they were both really great ladies. One time they were both there, and one came out and played with DS and talked to me while the other one fixed his food. They were wonderful, a definate two-thumbs-up from me.

Thanks for all the helpful info! Prior to this trip, we have always stayed at resorts that had a full-service restaurant (and we bring granola bars and eat breakfast in the room) so we were able to just bypass the foot courts. But I imagine we will have at least a couple meals at the Pop food court, so I wanted to be prepared.
