*DEAL EXPIRED* Ebates.ca (CDN) 20.0% cash back on Orbitz tickets!!

I'm concerned about how the money would be sent from ebates.ca. I get the US ebates website to send me a check in the mail. Paypal takes a cut of any money I get thru them.

My concern is that:

a. The funds would be in Canadian dollars, which is trading 90¢ to the US dollar right now.

b. There would be foreign transaction fees involved in converting those Canadian dollars to US dollars when ebates.ca sends their rebate money.

Between the possibility of Paypal taking their share of the money (I don't want to try cashing a check from out of the country), foreign transaction fees and getting 90¢ on the dollar, I'm not willing to take the gamble.
Paypal takes a cut of yours? It did not take anything from my payment.

Purpledisneyprncess: Would you mind checking to see if you can link your vouchers to your MDE? When I called (407-939-4357) the tech person told me I could but I had not bought the tickets yet. When is your trip? TIA!
Hi! I can't use MDE because right now we don't have a resort booked. We are kind on the fence about staying at a DTD hotel or Pop. I can tell you that last time I purchased tickets thru Orbitz, Disney's IT told me I couldn't link a voucher. I had to go to a park or Guest Services in DTD and get my tickets then I could link to MDE.

I've received my Ebates payment in the form of a paypal deposit for years and I've never had them take any of the money either.

After I read your post I went to check Ebates Ca site and it's true, they do send the check in Canadian currency.

Yes, but have they ever paid you in Canadian dollars? I think paypal will take their own currency conversion fee out of that.

Yeah, think I will stick to the US site and be happy with the 10% rebate, rather than take chances with this.

The poster was saying she receives her US Ebates payment as a check due to paypal taking fees from her money. Here is her quote "I get the US ebates website to send me a check in the mail. Paypal takes a cut of any money I get thru them." I was simply saying they do not take any fees from my payment.

I'm sure you are right about Paypal and Canadian funds. I'd be too nervous to bite on this personally.

PayPal makes you upgrade to a business or premier account (I can't recall the title offhand) when you receive more than a certain number of payments per month. When you do this, they take a percentage of the money. If you sell on eBay or have an online store that accepts PayPal, then you're stuck paying that fee, even if it isn't a business transaction. I paid it last month when an Energizer rebate was sent to me thru PayPal. Casual PayPal users don't pay the fee.

Brave soul here from the US.

I bought these tickets yesterday. I got two of the 5 day hoppers that are on sale. The price came to $683 for both. My ebates posted today and shows that I have $141 pending (includes the $5 sign up bonus). If .10 on the dollar is taken, I should get about $126 US dollars (hadn't thought of that, so thanks for bringing that up). This brings my ticket price to about $279 each. The Disney site sells them for $370, and UT sells them for about $341.

Also, there is not a date range on the tickets, even though I needed to put one in to buy them(I put in a whole month just to cover me in case I needed to shift my dates). It just shows that I purchased them on 1/27 and that they are valid 14 days after first use.

Thanks OP for the tip!

My purchase of 4 - 2 day tickets (2xadult, 2xchild) came to $778.28. Ebates.ca is now showing it in my pending area and looks like I'll get $155.66 back.

So to confirm - the 20% is being applied!

I'll be talking with Ebates.ca today to get some clarification as Orbitz is a US site and all prices are in USD. Because of this (and I'm Canadian), the tickets cost me approx. $865-$875 due to Visa's exchange. Here's where why I want the clarification - I want to know if I'll get that $155.66 back in US funds (or it'll be converted to CAD).

Anyone have experience with this?

UPDATE: Well this sucks! I'm still ahead on the 10% but it's disapointing to know this (taken from Ebates.ca's help page):

How do you calculate currency for my Cash Back if I bought something in US dollars?

No matter whether you purchase from a store that sells goods in Canadian or US dollars, Ebates Canada will give you Cash Back in Canadian funds. To make it easy, when you purchase something in US dollars your Cash Back will be converted into Canadian dollars at par. That is, if we owe you $5.00 USD, we'll automatically give you $5.00 CAD.

Please note that when you buy products in US dollars on a Canadian credit card, your credit card company will calculate what you owe in Canadian funds based on the exchange rate for that day. If you ever want to check the exchange rate, our favourite place to look is www.xe.com. Remember that some credit card companies may charge you a fee when you purchase items in other currencies.

I am going to just request they send me a check & I will see how much my bank charges to deposit a Canadian check. Even with the fees etc it still is not such a bad deal. Next time though, I will stick to my country and not venture into international deals..lol

Actually I have a Premier account since I sell on Ebay. The Ebay transactions do get fees taken out but not Ebates. I think the Ebates is not considered a payment so no fees.

Well, I don't know why an Energizer rebate had money taken out but I'm not going to chance it. PayPal is a pain in the behind to deal with whenever you have a problem!

I also want to point out that PayPal will charge users a fee for processing funds sent from another country. This will be on top of any conversion fees and currency rate adjustments. There's a good calculator for it here:

Why oh why doesn't Orbitz have discovery cove tickets?? :sad1: They have Seaworld, Universal Studios, and DisneyWorld but not the one I need.

WOW I am seriously considering this! were you able to link to MB no prob?

I think Discover is a good card for using out of the country. But, I think I am going to wait a few weeks ( I still have time - not going to WDW until March) in case there is an AP discount that comes out.

I think this is covered in a different thread. Orbitz gives you a voucher that has to be redeemed for tickets on property. Only then can you add the tickets to MDE or your MB and book FP+. If you'll be passing buy and can pick up tickets earlier, that won't be a problem, but until you physically pick up the tickets at Disney World, you won't be able to link anything.

That's exactly what I'll be doing. I did call Disney and then Orbitz as the will call code won't work with MDE. Disney couldn't do anything and Orbitz told me to call back in 5 days as there should be a proper number by then (something to do with their system). I'm a little concerned that by getting the number, it could screw up my reservation so I'm just going to wait, pick up the tickets the day after we arrive to Orlando and then book my FP+.

Signed up, bought the tickets, got the 3-day + 2 day free park hopper tix for Disney. It DID say at checkout that the cash back can be processed as late as 40 post vacation, but I'll be contacting for the cash back before I leave in February so I have the extra cash.

Tickets cost me (for 1 person) $341.87. 20% cash back through ebates will net me $68.37, making the tickets cost $273.50. Compare that to Disney's rack rate on the same ticket (5 day park hopper) at $370.62, and I saved a total of $97.12! :cool1:

This is what we had to do in October. I tried all the codes that Orbitz gave but nothing linked. You'll just have to wait to book FP+ until you get the tickets.
