Deadline to add person to party? PIF date?

We have a res for next Feb., made a while ago, and we are now thinking about inviting our neighbor's son to join us.

What is the deadline to add another person to your reservation? PIF date? Or possibly later? Thx.

I think it mainly depends on when the lifeboat station for your cabin fills up. If it is filled regardless of PIF date, you can't add anyone in.

You can add people all the way up to the day before the cruise. But, if it's within the 3 days prior to the cruise, you have to call to do it, can't do it online.

Also, I'll just point out, when trying to add a person to a a reservation DCL will ask 3 questions:

1) Is there room in the stateroom for another person? (can't put 4 people in a 3 person room)
2) Is there room in the lifeboat that stateroom is assigned to? (even if there's an empty bed in your room, that lifeboat may be filled by the other rooms assigned to it that already have 4 people in them).
3) Is there room in the appropriate kid's club? (if applicable)

If the answer is "no" to any of these questions, you will not be able to add them to your reservation. It may be possible to change rooms, if the "no" was to #1 or #2, but not always.

I'll also point out that, if you are able to add another person, that person's cost will be the prevailing rate, not the price they would have paid had they been on the reservation originally.

Thanks! We have three Cat 5D's, with only two people assigned to each room, so I think we are good on #1. No way to know on #2 or #3 until we are ready to commit, but we'll be sure to verify before we extend the invitation.

As for the rate - yeah, we knew about that part, and are prepared to take the bullet.

I will add, that we are frequently in a position where we have questionable attendees. We may not be confident if family members/in-laws will come and so we book my daughter in both rooms until we figure it out. We always book all potential cruisers ASAP. It is much easier to cancel someone before PIF than it is to add them later. We even have people identified as TBA. If paying fronting any additional deposit is not a problem, it is best to add before prices can increase. (Not as much of a problem anymore, since prices are so high, and less so for a third person in a room, but I don't try to predict Disney).

We really did not foresee taking the neighbor's son when we originally booked many months ago. But he's had a few changes in his life recently where a trip like this might do him some good. Great suggestion for next time, though, so thanks!

You might consider adding the boy now, before you've made your final decision or even before discussing with his parents. It's much easier to cancel a passenger than to add one, as long as you cancel prior to PIF you'll get full refund. Adding him now will verify space is available and lock-in the current rate; waiting until next month or whenever might cost more and/or may not have availability. It's very kind of you to consider taking a neighbor's child on your vacation!

Definitely add now, and you can always remove him before the PIF date without penalty. As Disney has explained to me, if the boat fills to capacity based on room in life boats, then it will not matter if your room can accommodate him, the rest of the ship may not. So, always better to be safe and then remove later to make sure he has the option of coming.

The original booking was OBB, so even though I pay prevailing rates on his fare, do I grandfather in the reduced deposit percentage? Doesn't really matter either way; just curious.

You'll get the discount on the prevailing rate, not the one that you would have been charged had he been on the reservation to start with.

The OBB deposit 10% vs. 20% otherwise, right? So I would be charged the prevailing rate, but only have to deposit 10% of that amount, correct?

Yes, the deposit is 10%, if you're taking a 7 night and longer cruise. It's my understanding that you'll pay the 10% deposit on a 3rd person's prevailing rate.
