De-troit Bas-ket-ball!!!!!!

I can't believe that. Surely, it's just someone with an obnoxious voice, not the actual PA announcer. I've never heard a PA announcer like that. Usually, they have very plain, but well-spoken voices. It's hard to imagine such a voice pulling off such a scream.

Based on what I've seen here locally, and on TV in other arenas, that style is actually quite common now. Ever since the Lakers/Celtics and Jordan/Bulls playoff runs the NBA experience has been much more than the game.

The local sports radio guys were discussing this recently with the voice of the local team (and the voice of ESPN radio playoff games). They all agreed it's gone too far.

If somehow you forgot to yell and scream for your team, the PA announcer will remind you at every dead ball.

I haven't heard the clip but I have to agree that it is the in arena announcer. Last year's finals was my first experience with him and I was not impressed BUT he does seem to get the crowd into it.

The NBA in arena experience is changing. It started with the Ray Clay Bulls intro. Most PA announcers ARE charged with getting the fans into it but teams, like the Spurs, are starting to use their in arena 'fun and games' guys to rally fans when the PA announcer is more plain voiced. However my pick for best in the business still goes to the Portland Trailblazers Mark Mason for being able to be understood AND firing up the crowd!

I'm looking forward to tonight's game 7. :thumbsup2 Unfortunately, most of the other games in their series started so late (9:30-10pm EST), so I was usually heading to bed around that time. So I've only caught the highlights of the other games.

AHHHH! Well you'll have to look for me since I just got a seat! I was credentialed in but now I have a seat...a GOOD seat.

But I suppose it's possible. For example, Kentucky's PA announcer in Rupp Arena has a very plain, non-accented voice, usually. But when he's announcing the lineups before the game, he'll announce the opposing team in a plain voice, and then when he announces the Kentucky team, he'll precede it with: "And now, for your Kentucky WwwwWILDcats!" and his voice will sort of crack on the "Wild" syllable, similar to the "Bask" syllable in Detroit BASKetball. Still, his voice is still much less obnoxious and funny than the Detroit voice.

Anyone know for sure?

It is a Detroit Pistons' thing and the PA annnouncer. Every fan of Detroit knows the yell. . .DEE TROIT BASK ET BALL!!! It's kind of like BBBBBBBBILLUPS!

The PA announcer for the Piston's is a popular radio disc jockey here in Detroit. His name is Mason. For those in Michigan, Mason is the afternoon radio host on 105.9. He's become very popular everywhere due to the DEEE-TROIT Basketball and his other announcing at the Piston games. People here love him. GOOOO PISTONS :cheer2: !!!

Thanks for the info! Personally, I sort of like the clip I've heard on Fox Sports Radio. It's pretty funny to me.

On the whole, though, I can't stand NBA basketball. I find it extremely boring compared to college ball.

I'm not sure who to root for in the Heat-Pistons series, though. There are former UK Wildcats playing for both the Pistons (Tayshaun Prince) and the Heat (Antoine Walker). I like Tayshaun better personally, though, than Walker, so I guess I'll root for Dee-troit! :teeth:

Well it only took 18 years! You Pistons fans shouldn't feel too bad after 4 in a row. The Heat wanted it more. Shaq was playing with the energy of a school kid. Ben was shooting FreeThrows like a pre-school kid. J-Will stepped up to the plate for Wade. Let's stay White Hot!

I'm thrilled for Miami. Now if only PHX can pull it off on the west. If not Miami all the way. I can't stomach a Dallas win.
