DDs glasses $375...sound right?

For $10 you can get a 1 year warranty from walmart. I only buy my kids glasses from there for that reason.

Maybe this varies store to store or state to state.

I asked several times at our local WM and they said they have NO warranties for sale. (asked when we first purchased, asked again when the first pair broke and we were repurchasing frames)

I always buy my kids' glasses from Costco. Their price was less than half of what the eye clinic was going to charge. Also, we go to Costco a lot more often than we go to the eye clinic...so it's nice to be able to send the kids over to get their glasses adjusted if needed.

Costco had Dolce & Gabanna frames for under $100. They were over $200 a pair for the same frames from the optical shop. DD didn't actually end up picking those frames though. She was impressed tey carried designer stuff though.

Then, found Laura Ashley dresses in the clothing part. You just never know what you'll find at Costco.:)

Just ordered my DD(age 8 and autistic), a back up pair from Walmart. They were $93, got the cheapest frames.
They tried to sell me the flexable ones, but I said no, her current pair the tip has broke of one of the arms, so they need repaired as soon as the others come in. The insurance paid for them and they are the bending kind and broke in 10 mos. That pair we got at the Vision Center that used to be inside Walmart and we did buy the warranty. Now her records moved when they switched it to Walmart, so we will have to travel 30 mins to take care of the broken pair.
However, it might be worth it, because of the warranty, to continue to drive up there. She has managed to break 2 other pairs recently, but the frames were 3years and 18 mos(thus the reason we didn't have a back up). Again from the former Vision Center inside Walmart. Lucky for us her prescription has not changed in 3.25 year (she has extremely bad vision +5.50 and +5.25, glad it hasn't gotten worse).
Was concerned about fixing the current broken one, as she has another exam in May, but then remembered the insurance will cover it if it's just a lens change.
My Costco pair are 5 year old and need replaced, just haven't had the time.
On another note, we have to put a strap on her, if she takes them off she will lose them otherwise, any suggestions and a good strap that works with kids?

Mine from Sam's were just under $150. The lenses were 120. I ended up getting one of the cheapest frames, but they're Anna Sui. All of the ones I really liked were that brand. They were marked at a higher price, so I didn't choose for that. They ended up only being $27 I think. I don't wear mine except for mornings/evenings and backup, so I chose something fairly trendy since I know I won't be seen in them too often unless I want to be.

That's crazy! I paid $39.00 for my glasses from 39dollarglasses.com and they work just as great as my expensive pair.

39dollarglasses.com is awesome!!
over the years, i've used local opticians, cohen (horrible), sterling (good), costco (excellent), & a gazillion others.
last year, i got a pair from a local optician covered by insurance (and paid $300 out of pocket :sad2: ).
i then took my script & bought 2 back-up pairs from 39dollar (including tinted lenses). i receive tons of compliments on the "cheap" glasses :thumbsup2 (never a compliment on the pricey ones :confused3 ), so bought 2 more pairs  . i like that i have diff pairs to match diff outfits/moods princess:

fyi, i found metal frames might need adjusting, the plastics fit perfectly upon receipt. i also requested shaved lens edge to keep the lenses from looking too thick, & it was done perfectly.
imho, everyone that wears glasses should have at least one back-up pair ~ "stuff" happens, & it can be VERY difficult being vision-less for a few days...

Granted it was the whole ball of wax, frames, lightweight lenses and anti glare coat ( she really has trouble with night time glare driving...and even the computer screen) anyway, we priced out a variety of places our insurance takes, Target, Penneys, lenscrafters, eye doctor...and all were within $20 of each other so we stayed with the eye doctor . Is my area high for glasses or is this normal for what she is getting?
Frames 120
lenses( single vision) 98
featherweight 65
anti glare 90

total 373 :scared1:

not to mention the contacts...amn, $$$$ is just flowing like water! Where is that child free by choice thread?;)

OUCH! Do you have America's Best in your neck of the woods? My personal optomotrist (sp?) sent us there for the kids since they change each year. I get the exam, TWO pair of glasses for each kid & damage insurance for under $100 each!!!!! (it could go a bit higher...but I restrict the kids to the frames in the lower price ranges)

Mine were signifigantly more....a pair of contacts plus frames/lenses would have been over $1000! This WITHOUT the expensive lightweight lenses as my vision is so poor. Luckily our doc is DH's cousin, so we get it as cost...still a chunk of change!

I buy the Flexon frames because they are worth it. They have taken a real beating and only need replaced every three years. Plus my boys lenses are so thick that the plastic ones just don't hold up.

I have awful vision, astigmatism in both eyes etc. I have never been able to get lenses thin with anti-glare (my doc throws in anti scratch for free) for less than $150. I usually get cheaper frames (another $100) so my glasses average $250. Contacts for me finally came back to a normal price since my left eye isn't in custom range anymore. I pay $200 a year for contacts.

Yup, they really are great!! A girl I know uses them for her whole family and her son broke his pair, and they sent a replacement for free. I don't know why more people don't use them. Especially the budget minded folks ;)

Costco will also replace the lens for $25 each eye... if the prescription/glasses came from somewhere else. I doubt it is with all the fancy add-ons (I forget now), but for a back up pair, especially if you really dig them, isn't too bad.

I always get my glasses at Costco. I get the anti-glare, high index as well as the light weight lenses. I spend about $150.00, total.
Granted, the selection of frames is limited but I always find at least one pair that I like.

DH got glasses at our Walmart Vision center for around $130. They look terrific and fit well, and he sees so much better with them on. We have no complaints about quality but it's only been a few months. :) I wear glasses to relieve eyestrain and bought the cheapest ones my eye doc had...and have disliked them from day one (I'm now in year 4 or 5). I was a bit peeved when I went for my eye exam in December and my eyes hadn't changed! I desperately wanted new glasses but couldn't justify the cost if my old ones were still fine. Thanks to the DIS, I know where to find cheaper ones!

What is this anti-glare everyone is talking about? My lenses are tinted to help with the glare from the fluorescent lighting in my classroom. Is this the same thing? I don't much care for the way the tinting looks...it looks like I'm wearing very weak sunglasses. If there's some other way to reduce glare on my eyes, that would rock!

My DH has anti-glare on his lenses. I'm not sure if it helps against flo lights but i do know that when we have pictures taken you no longer get that flash-back from the lenses. and the coating is clear.
