Granted it was the whole ball of wax, frames, lightweight lenses and anti glare coat ( she really has trouble with night time glare driving...and even the computer screen) anyway, we priced out a variety of places our insurance takes, Target, Penneys, lenscrafters, eye doctor...and all were within $20 of each other so we stayed with the eye doctor . Is my area high for glasses or is this normal for what she is getting?
Frames 120
lenses( single vision) 98
featherweight 65
anti glare 90

total 373 :scared1:

not to mention the contacts...amn, $$$$ is just flowing like water! Where is that child free by choice thread?;)

I just got brand new glasses- not "featherweight" and no specific "antiglare"

lenses were $65 each (have minimal perscription)
Frames were $120

So I guess it sounds right

Hi guys,

I'm an Optician here in California and that is actually an average price. Especially for frames. $120 for a frame is a lower priced frame. They can actually get a lot more expensive, depending on the designer. We charge:

Single vision lenses $69
"Feather weights" (Polycarbonate) $40
Anti Reflective coating (prices vary) For the best coating (Crizal Alize--definitely!) $99

Also, we don't charge tax and almost always give a 20% discount on top of these prices (not that I'm trying to sell you a pair :-)

Hope this makes you feel better, that yes, unfortunately, that is the right price. There are many everyday that will spend $600+ Can you imagine:confused3

Hope this info helps

We usually pay about $400 on average. My prescription is so bad there is no way I would buy anything but the really thin lite lenses. They used to be so thick when I was younger. I was always so embarrased. Once I even chiped a little piece of the edge of the lense near my cheek and it scratched my face. So because of all of that I also buy the lite ones for DS even though his prescription isn't as bad.

We went to Costco for my daughters first pair of glasses and I paid about $275 including the eye exam. I'm lucky that my eyes haven't changed in awhile so I haven't changed out glasses in a couple of years and they are still in style too.

It's pricey to see...:headache:

It sounds about right. You need to get VSP (Vision Services Plan) DH has it through work, but you may be able to enroll in it anyway (you'd have to check). It's THE best coverage. $10 covers the exam and it pays up to $120 on frames, I forget what it pays on lenses but if go over the limit you still get a 15-20%discount on theat amount. DD got Tommy Hilfiger glasses for$15, Dh got glasses w/ sunglass clip ons for $15.

I just checked VSP and starting in April 2007 they will be offering plan for individuals and families, if it's not offered through your employer.

I actually just ordered DD's glasses yesterday at the Walmart Vision Center. Fortuntely she picked inexpensive frames..... total cost of everything is
$117. Guess I lucked out!...................P

My DD just got hers as well; same deal, frames, polycarb. lightweight leneses, anti glare at Costco. Just over $100.

The anti glare coating was $29, the lenses were $29.

Here Sam's Club does glasses....I might look into that when I go get my new ones.

That's about average. Glasses are expensive.
If you're a AAA member, Lenscrafters gives 30% off.

I paid slightly less for ds' glasses at the eye doctor. Glasses are expensive. Luckily, his have never been broken (yet...)!

DH just went yesterday and it was $515, but with our insurance we owed $270. So your price sounds about right.

DH also has something through work (no cost though) that makes glasses pretty cheap at Lenscrafters (and others but not my eye dr).

There was a place mentioned in Smart Money magazine that I want to try for sunglasses - eyeglassdirect.com They say there are others but don't mention them by name. I'll check out the other one listed too, I don't want to pay a fortune for sunglasses I'll rarely wear but do need once in a while.

Wow!

I think I got my glasses 2 for$129 or so at BJ's and I was happy with them. I don't think they are doing it that cheap anymore, but I thought it was pricey.:)

I guess not!

That's crazy! I paid $39.00 for my glasses from 39dollarglasses.com and they work just as great as my expensive pair.

Check out Sears Optical. Got DDs glasses there (first pair) for about $120.00 complete. They tend to run frequent specials such as 2 pairs for the price of 1. I get my glasses there also.

I have two sons in glasses and I pay around $400 a pair for each. They both have very low vision and I also buy them Flexon frames that run around $220.
It is expensive but very worth it.
